ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Activated Charcoal ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks. I'm stuck with the gas for now, because my diet is limited to vegan at this point. I need the beans for protein. The part about losing nutrients is a concern. Does anyone know how long should I wait after eating before taking it ? Marcia -
ARCHIVED Any Advice Where To Begin?
marciab replied to pattic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have CFIDS and Fibromyalgia, so I have an autoimmune system disease too. I am hoping this diet will help me with the symptoms I have been suffering with for 16 years. So far, I have noticed a small improvement in my fatigue and a huge difference in my stomach problems. I lurked too in the beginning and now I am all too happy to post. These people... -
ARCHIVED Not Tested For celiac disease
marciab replied to sabrinajanae's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to agree with you about staying on this diet. It is really hard for me not to drool when everyone around me is eating all these good smelling foods that I used to eat. I swear I can smell the pizza in the Papa John's commercials. I've been on the gluten free diet for 5 months, but the food elimination diet for 6 months. Overall, based on my results... -
ARCHIVED Following Diet, Still Having Stomach Pain
marciab replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Betty, I'm new here too, but not so new to the diet. I had to eliminate quite a few things before my stomach stopped hurting all the time. My doctor told me to go back to a diet that I knew I could tolerate everytime I ate something that doesn't agree with me. It seems to be working. Good luck and try to be patient... marcia -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Testing?
marciab replied to Maureen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm new here too, but I've been gluten free for 5 months now and I don't want to go back on gluten either just to be tested. AND my GP told me not to bother being tested because even if all the tests are negative, I could still be one of those who feels better on the diet. My doctor diagnosed me as gluten intolerant because I noticed that I get hyper when... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Activated Charcoal ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You said it made your stools tarish. Is that the same as hard ? I already have to watch everything I eat to avoid C. I was wondering if they might absorb the toxins in my digestive tract as well as get rid of the gas. Do u know if it comes in liquid form ? I have trouble with capsules. -
ARCHIVED Quinoa
marciab replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have any problems with quinoa, but brown rice tears up me up some times. marcia -
ARCHIVED What Is The Role Of The Nih In Educating The Public About Gluten Intolerance ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I appreciate all the response on this topic. I can definitely see where the drug companies have nothing to gain at this point by educating the public about this illness. But, I am on medicare so the government is paying for all of my medical tests, hospitalizations, doctors and drugs. I'm assuming that the doctors working at the NIH would know as much... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction And Constipation
marciab replied to jojoe72's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
...after the laxitives did their thing I felt like a totally new person mentally and physically. The back ache, head ache, bags under my eyes, and mental funkyness completely went away within 10 mins. Is this common? If I could only stay feeling this way all the time. I feel like a new person. Ideas?? Joe -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction And Constipation
marciab replied to jojoe72's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Tinab ...not sure I want to be a member of this club, but here I am ... I found meats or anything with a hard skin, such as raisins, prunes, apples, etc., cause me to be constipated. So, I eat them in moderation or not at all. I used laxatives for a couple of years, but they stopped working. Or sometimes would work so well I couldn't leave my house for... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Role Of The Nih In Educating The Public About Gluten Intolerance ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm obviuosly just nieve when it comes to how the real world works. I thought a government organization was there to serve the public. You know, the whole "by the people, for the people" Democracy nonsense we learned in school. I see what you mean about this not being a media friendly disease. But, don't you think someone other than special interest... -
This diet sucks, BUT, I have to admit, it has helped tremendously. I no longer have the bouts of D. I don't have that constant pain in my abdomen. And I stopped being hyperactive the same day I stopped the gluten. And I didn't even know I was hyper until I stopped being hyper. Duh !! I just thought I was antsy. I cook foods in a large quantity...

ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
marciab replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there. I couldn't help but empathize with you. I was having severe stomach cramps, gas and bloating up until 6 months ago. My GP put me on the food allergy / sensitivity diet where you eliminate the most widely known foods that people are allergic to, like wheat, eggs, corn, dairy, soy, chocolate, nuts, seafood, etc. She told me to add foods that contain... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction And Constipation
marciab replied to jojoe72's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been struggling with constipation for a couple of years now. So I know how you feel. Lately, I've been using oils with Essential Fatty Acids, like extra virgin olive oil, flax seed oil, and grape seed oil and they are working great. I just stir a tablespoon into my bowl of grains and beans, etc right before I eat it. You said you felt great... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Role Of The Nih In Educating The Public About Gluten Intolerance ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks. I'm really happy that I found this website. I don't feel so alone anymore. I love the way the message boards are set up. Although, I don't quite understand the technical info yet, it's good to know we have such informed people on staff. I always thought that the NIH was the gold standard for health care in the US. I emailed them at the website... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Experienced "withdrawal" Symptoms When Going Gluten Free....?
marciab replied to cami's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My main symptoms of withdrawal were emotional. I finally had to stop going out to eat with others because I was tearing up when they got their food and I got my plain baked potato and glass of water. That must have been a real bummer for them too. I've never been a whiner, but god, I miss real food !!!!!!!!!!!!! -
ARCHIVED What Is The Role Of The Nih In Educating The Public About Gluten Intolerance ?
marciab posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm confused. I learned about Celiac disease in August 2005 from the NIH website on Celiac Disease, but I haven't seen any more information released from there since June 2004. According to their website, updating the public and the medical community is their job. We all know what bird flu is, why doesn't the medical profession know what celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED What Does "celiac Disease Causes Damage To The Intestines" Mean.
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks. But, I'm still confused. Since the villi are damaged and the intestines can not release the enzymes to digest food, can taking digestive enzymes help ? Can the healing process be sped up ? I've been disabled with chronic fatigue / fibromyalgia for 16 years, so I'm thinking this could take awhile. Not sure I am ready for the SCD diet. I really... -
My GP put me on the food allergy / sensitivity diet 6 months ago and I added rye, barley and oats 1 month later after learning about gluten on the internet. Anyway, I was feeling much better as long as I watched what I ate. I am still in the process of discovering my food sensitivities. Now an old problem has re-occured. All solid foods are causing...

ARCHIVED Diagnosis
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info. I understand now how important the celiac diagnosis is as a motivator to stay on the diet. I am ready to cave after only 2 weeks. However, there is a lot of disagreement on this website about the validity of the tests. Which is what my doctor was saying. And honestly, I'm just not ready for another ### diagnostic test or... -
Hi there. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I recently went on the gluten free diet and noticed that I'm not as fatigued as I used to be. My doctor does not recommend being tested for celiac disease, since the diet is all they can do for me anyway. What do you think ? Does anyone else have CFS ?

Hey there .. I'm new to all this and also was suffering from "c". I found relief in by eating fruits and vegatables that contained natural digestive enzymes, namely papaya, mango, avocado, pineapple, bananas and alfafa sprouts. When that fails, I eat some gluten free bread dipped in extra virgin olive oil and Italian spices. Be careful though, only try...
