ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Absorb Meds Differently When Starting Diet?
marciab replied to jesscarmel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have a good point. I started feeling drugged all day long from my Klonopin after being on the diet for 7 months. I was only on .5 mg, so it wasn't the dosage. I actually called the pharmacist and had them call the manufacturer to make sure they had given me the right dosage ... I had no idea this could happen ... Marcia -

I noticed you can't do spices. I couldn't either for awhile. Have you ever tried drying papaya seeds in the oven and grinding them up in a pepper grinder ? They taste a little like pepper, but are actually digestive enzymes ... just in case you want to try it . You heat them at 250 degrees for 1 - 1 1/2 hours, then let them cool and fnish drying out on a... -

ARCHIVED A Few Questions For My Cookbook
marciab replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'd like a book with definitions and pictures of foreign ingredients, like agave, stevia, nutritional yeast vs regular yeast ... The form these come in would be good too. Liquid vs powder. Also a substitution chart for things like xanthum gum, guar gum, etc. Nice to have if you run out of something ... A section on the best cooking utensils would... -
You can always do this a little at a time. Start buying only gluten free foods, but still eat the ones you currently have in the house. Eventually, you'll run out of gluten foods ... OK, hopefully, you don't have a pantry full of gluten filled foods Don't be hard on yourself. It's not easy giving up gluten, but you can do it. I am just now...

Moonlite - If his problem is gluten ataxia, meaning he can hardly walk and loses his balance, there is hope. I started walking normally after being off gluten for 1 year. It just happened. I had been using a motorized cart in the grocery store for the past 16 years ... I walk normal all the time now .. I still can't do any aerobics without getting fatigued...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Worries?
marciab replied to suz101's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks. It is just too much work to keep up with which companies are using separate lines for gluten free item. And I am too sensitive to keep risking getting glutenned. Are there any completely gluten free facilities out there where no gluten ever gets in ? BTW: I reacted to the Back to Nature rice crackers. Jerked myself awake several... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Worries?
marciab replied to suz101's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just checked my Hershey's bar and my Back to Nature rice crackers and they don't say whether or not they are produced in a facility that produces food with wheat. Are these safe ? Are the labelling rules in effect yet ? I'm pretty sure Back to Nature produces some crackers with wheat. I see some people here eat these without a problem, but I'm... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Make Their Own Flour Out There?
marciab replied to cchhrriiss's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
"For muffins I use a mix that I measure ahead of time. Its 2 cup rice flour (we use brown for the extra vitamins and protein), 2/3 cup potato starch, 1/3 cup tapioca starch and 3 tsp xanthan gum. I find this works good for most baked goods. Yes, I get the same satisfaction from it being my own. " Can you tell me which brand of potato starch, tapioca starch... -

I'm interested in this too, but y'all know so much more than me already I couldn't add anything. I tried grinding rice in my coffee bean grinder last week and even though it looked ok, it was too heavy. My chocolate muffins taste good, but they didn't rise and they are heavy. I hate the thought of spending $200 on a grinder too. Would a used one... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated By Friend Who's Dh Is Supposedly Celiac!vent!
marciab replied to LyndaCanada's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
"She said there is 2 schools of thought " a little gluten won't hurt you" sort of attitude and the die hard, "don't let gluten near me" School of thought. " It is NOT really a "school of thought". It is a matter of real life experience. Your friend needs to understand that YOU are very sensitive to gluten ... Her husband is evidently going to have... -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Haselbeck Said She Has Celiac!
marciab replied to TBOX's topic in Publications & Publicity
I don't watch the show much anymore, but when I did I remember most of Elisabeth's segments being something that is pertinent in her life. Usually light topics ... like how to shop on the cheap, baby items, didn't she do a segment on maternity clothes ? , new mom info, etc. Elisabeth is like any other NEWBIE to celiac. Just happy to be able to drink... -

It would probably be a good idea for those who have been diagnosed via biopsy or blood work and have nuerological problems that have resolved by going gluten free to email Elisabeth too .... Thanks ... marcia -

Jess, I looked at the schedule on their website, but didn't see this ... I'm sure I am missing something .. I wrote a letter to Elisabeth and included info on my experience and nuerological celiac ... Marcia -
Paronoid here too... My daughter is home for the next couple of days and we have a gluten filled birthday cake in the fridge. I bought it ready made though. I felt weird about feeling so paranoid until my daughter reminded me how sensitive she is to peanut butter, cats and other animals. She will get hives immediately around bunnies. It helps to be...

ARCHIVED Some Urgent Questions.. Please Help
marciab replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have to do what is right for you. Not what anyone else wants you to do. If food is making you ill, then you have to stop eating it regardless of how others egg you on to eat what they are eating. I went through this too, but now my family is supportive. They don't want to see me sick again. As far as going vegan, it is not always an option... -

marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Brian, Thanks ... I really hated the morphine though and was hoping there was something else ... Sounds like I will be fine with an IV while I am there ... Just what to take afterwards will be a problem .. Judy, My clonazepan (sp) had dairy in it. I am going through a major learning curve here with meds. Thankfully, my docs are... -
Sorry, I don't know of a caprylic adic that is CF,DF,EF,etc. but it is made from coconut oil and you can buy coconut oil and add it to your food or eat it by the spoonful. Eventhough, I can't handle coconut oil, I can eat raw young coconuts for some reason ... These are tasty, but a pain to crack open ... I am having to stick to all natural remedies...
