Does anyone have a place I can go to get a definitive list of everything that IS a gluten including things like the so-called hidden glutens?

When a recipe calls for gluten-free flour does it mean ANY Gluten-free flour like rice or soy? Or is this a special type of flour?

I think the symptoms are different from each person, not necessarily each age. Is there any symptom aside from the lack of growth? That was one of first indicators for our son however. We actually took him in for diarrhea which turned out to be caused by the Celiac but that had been a recent thing. He was 21.5 mos at that point and, obviously, had Celiac disease for longer than just a few months.

We finally received our confirmation today. Our doctor told us that the way we figured it out is the best...by using the diet. He said that the blood tests are not always accurate. I have read that for small children they are even less accurate.

Try eliminating all the gluten from the baby's diet. That's where we started. Within just a few days our son had improved. His stools were very much what you have described. He's been fine as long as he stays on the Gluten-free diet. We may have an endoscopy next year but for now the doc is happy with our own "lab results."

Where do you live? If you are in Southern California, we see Dr. Grant at the CHOC PSF Clinic. You can contact them through Children's Hospital OC. I would ONLY see him though.

We are still in our testing phase. The specialist claimed the paed did not order the correct testing for Celiac.

Anyway, we are going back to a different specialist but at the same office on Wednesday so I've been doing some more research because we still have no difinitive answer (the lab has not returned the results of the last tests).

I ran across this article Open Original Shared Link . In it the author says, "There is no test yet which is definitively diagnostic of celiac disease. Relief of symptoms or reversion of an abnormal intestinal biopsy to normal on a gluten-free diet is the most convincing evidence that an individual has celiac disease or gluten sensitivity."

Is this simply old information? I am wondering because we have placed our son on a gluten-free diet and he has improved nearly 100%. Whenever we waver from that diet in any way, even to wheat-free foods, his symptoms return.

Thanks, Julie, for your response to my earlier questions. I thought of one more:

One of his symptoms is stunted growth. Basically he appears to have stopped growing around 12 mos of age. If he does have celiac will this be resolved? In other words, will he return to his normal growth curve or will he remain short the rest of his life?

Our 22 mos son had a celiac panel (and several others) done last week. We are currently awaiting the results of all these tests. We had a couple of questions.

1) Last night we were watching Mystery Diagnosis on DHC and they had a little boy with Celiac on there. One of the things the mom said he did as a 1yo was to stuff his mouth full of food but not swallow it. Is this a typical thing for a baby with celiac? We were surprised when she said that because our son does that. In fact we have to check his mouth before he goes to sleep because he wants to sleep with food in his mouth.

2) I was reading up on some of the testing and was wondering if the endoscopic intestinal biopsy is always done for confirmation?

3) We have another son who has a birth defect that is possibly genetic (they are still studying to find out the cause, no one currently knows what the cause is). Is it common for people with Celiac Disease to come from families who have several people with birth defects or genetic disorders? Or is this just our fluke?
