That is the STUPIDEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD! (not really, I've been to many doctors, I am sure that I've heard much worse) Do these doctors work for the Wheat Farmers Association or something? Why is eating gluten so important to them? They are so reluctant to reccomend a gluten free diet, like it's bad for us or something! Hey- I have more questioins...

what the heck is a gluten challenge? I don't know! I'm new to this!

IAMS has several lines of dog foods (I use the "Chunks" in the green bag) They use rice meal as a filler instead of wheat. I had my dog (Brutus the Boxer) on a raw BARF diet, but all was lost when I sent him to my parents' house for the weekend. I had made him raw meat loaf, raw veggie puree with plain yogurt and chicken wings for the weekend. The meatloaf...

ARCHIVED What's Your Story?
CeliacMe replied to jmarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been suffering for almost my entire life, I am 21 and just dx in July of this year. Let's see...long story short(I know its kind of long, but it is 15 years of my life)... approx age 5-9 bouts with diarrhea. always had visible bloating "pot belly". Very thin, stick thin. Periodic vomiting every few months. Everything unexplained. Noticed that... -
ARCHIVED College: Living Off-campus
CeliacMe replied to quantumsugar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The other posts are very good, after my first few trips to Whole Foods, I realized how much I was spending and started looking elsewhere for gluten-free info. I contacted my local grogery (publix in FL) and they sent me a huge list of their store brand and deli items that are gluten-free. You can also contact food manufacturers. Oberto Beef Jerky (Original... -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Turkey
CeliacMe replied to ruddabega's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You may have to bear the burden of having it at your house! OH NO! LOL. My family makes the gravy from scratch and uses cornstarch instead of flour anyway. Also my dad bring stuffing separate, not even prepared in the same kitchen. The usual seasonings shouldn't be a problem with the turkey, my aunt lets it cook in its own juices and seasons it... -
Can I buy a magnetic green ribbon for my car? I emailed the usaribbonsandmore people to see if they can make one. But I might have to order a bunch?!? Can't I just buy one?

Did you know that dogs have been diagnosed with Celiac? TRUE STORY! go to: www.dogtorj.com There's a list of gluten-free dog and cat foods!!!

It depends on the doctor! I had a DO for a few years and she treated me like a hypochondriac and was a complete idiot. I just got a new DO and she ran the right bloodwork on the first visit. The key to being a good doctor is knowing your stuff, listening to the patient and knowing that its not beneath you to learn and research beyond your medical school...

Can we please stop saying IBS as if it were an actual disease, rather than a symptom? I hate IBS, the mere mention of it sickens me. It just means that my doctor has given up trying to figure out why I have digestive problems, so he's gonna slap this label on me and tell me to take fiber con, aviod milk and write an rx for an anti-spasmodic. Way to go...

How do you know that you have gluten sensitivity if you bloodwork is normal? I believe with cornholio- if the diet works- follow it. You may need tests for other food sensitivities/ allergies. Make sure you go to a doctor who is familiar with celiac and celiac testing. I don't know what you doctor tested for. Just because you don't have antibodies in...

That's terrible! I've done that (been in the dr literally sick, in the bathroom with diarrhea and vomiting). That's when they started to think maybe I was telling the truth ("gee boss, I think she's really sick"). I HATE doctors. The vast majority of them are a bunch of egomaniacs with god complexes. The fact of the matter is what most of them aren't...

ARCHIVED Biopsy
CeliacMe replied to kirstymorrison's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It disgusts me that your doctor wants him back on a gluten diet. WHAT AN IDIOT! What the heck difference does it make to him if your husband has gluten or not? This guy should work for the association or wheat farmers! That irks me to no end. He (your husband) obviously has a gluten problem. I don't know about your husband, but I suffer fatigue symptoms... -
I heard that Victoria Beckaham ("Posh Speice") has celiac disease, is that true? Also Emmy Rossum (from "the day after tomorrow" and "the phantom of the opera"). Maybe we could write fan mail begging them to do something to raise Celiac Awareness? I will write them if you guys do too!

Me too! I was diagnosed with "IBS" 4 years ago and Celiac in July! You know, IBS isn't a diagnosis right? It's something the doctor says when he cant figure out you have diarrhea. LOL I hate doctors!

ARCHIVED Lump On Back Near Shoulder Blade
CeliacMe replied to Eliza13's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Probably just a large cyst- I've had a few. Don't know if they are celiac disease related or not. It got infected after getting bigger and bigger and the doctor had to cut it but it was still hard, so I got antibiotics and it ruptured itself and went away. Gross right? lol -
There is a brave man, known as "gluten guy" to the students at FSU's School of Hospitality Management. I would like to thank you for all that you have done to educate the resturants about gluten-free through your bravery. I bet you are a big part of the reason why chain resturants are offering gluten-free menus. If you are out there, Thank You.

Hi, I am new to celiac disease too. I get all types of DH on my scalp from shampoos and conditioners that contain wheat/oat products. I can't use a lot of salon shampoos because of this. It is very itchy, like dandruff, so yes I believe itching is normal if you are celiac disease. Maybe your soaps and shampoos have a gluten ingredient in it? You may...

ARCHIVED York Labs Ttg Test Kit
CeliacMe replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am new at this whole Celiac/ gluten-free thing (diagnosed via blood test in July- Positive results via diet). What the heck is a Ttg? Will it work on a baby that is approx 15 mos.? A girl at my work has a child who is very "sick" with diarrhea, projectile vomiting, cranky, irratable and sick in general with sinus infections, etc. Well, her doctor wanted... -
I am not in any way trying to defend insurance companies, as I also think that many of their rules are stupid and counterproductive- BUT they are pretty broke from the rising cost of healthcare, namely perscription drugs. Some of these drugs are outrageously expensive and many companies haven't started cracking down on what is on the formulary until the...

I never got a biopsy either. I did have a colonoscopy because they originally thought that I had ulcerative colitis, so my colon was biopsied, but not my small intestine. My very smart and inquisitive primary physician ran that bloodwork. My feeling is that if your bloodwork comes back positive and you have syptoms, than its safe to assume that you...

A plain coke always helped me with nausea. Also, glutano makes really good pretzels! I am sure their saltines are good also, but I haven't had them yet.

People have this attitude about doctors that they are smart because they work on people for a living, they are supposed to "fix" us. Your assume when you go to the doctor, any doctor, that they know what they are doing and want to help. My point is that doctors if they are any part of what society views them as, than it shouldn't take a dozen physicians...

Exactly! Everytime you are sick and the doctor doesn't seem to have an answer or care or even seem to be listening, the second you are a little bit pushy- guess what? the "hypochondriac" alarm goes off in their little heads and they tell you nothing is wrong with you or "it's probably just this or that" That's doctor speak for "I don't care, stop complaining...
