[OH, I have to admit being glutened affects my behavior as well. Boy do I turn into this monterous person with control problems. I ate at pizza hut on Saturday and had left overs on Sunday and my head is bothering me quite substantually. Irritated easily, flying off the handle, angery and depresses, things are toooooo much to handle.
This also happened last time I got glutened and knew it. THe day before Thanksgiving this year was my one year anniversary with a gluten-free diet. That's the day I began learning and decreasing it and it's taken quiet some tiem to be 100% gluten-free that I know of. My daughter acts the same way when being glutened too. I am needing to go to gluten annonyomous please!
HI, I'm Nicole and I ate gluten knowingly. I have a gluten intolerance problem."

My cycles started to be only 2 days and they were like paper cut blood amounts after my second child was born. I thought it was great. Once I found out I was vit. d defieicnet, I began taking 50,000 units of vit d once a week and they have lengthened a little bit and more is coming out now.

Thanks for contacting Zest.
We know Celiac is a serious disease, so we want to give you clear
information regarding the use of our beauty care products. If wheat and/or
gluten aren't directly added to a product by us, these ingredients
won't be listed on our packages. Like many companies, we often purchase
the scents for fragranced products from outside suppliers, and the
components of these substances are proprietary information belonging to those
companies. Therefore it's possible that a very small amount (generally
parts per million) of gluten may be present.
We sought advice from physicians; they told us it would be very
unlikely a person with Celiac disease would have a reaction from a trace
amount of gluten coming into contact with his skin or hair. This is because
wheat, rye, barley and/or gluten generally cause symptoms when they're
ingested. Since our beauty care products are designed to be used
externally on the skin, their use shouldn't be an issue for someone with
this disease.
Since gluten sensitivity can vary among people, it would be best if you
consulted with your physician about the use of all types of consumable
goods, if you haven't already. You might even consider using one of
our fragrance free products that doesn't list gluten or wheat extracts on
the label.
Thanks again for getting in touch with us. I hope this response has
been helpful to you. For more information about Celiac, you may want to

HI, I decrease my dd's gluten right after school got out last year and then she went 100% gluten-free right before school and wow, I did see a nice change. Very little emotional outbursts anymore and she much nicer over all. I can tell when she's been glutened though, she's angry and seems like she gets overstimumlated and yells a lot. Then I say, ok, what'd she eat today and what was on the label.
Usually, she's shared some lunch with a friend at school. Once I asked her about it and she said, I had a wheat cracker (those in the yellow box). Well, at least she told the truth, but look out for us for a day or two.

HI, I wrote an e mail to zest and they sent me back an e mail saying that gluten doesn't matter if it's in soap and I should check with the doc (that was the shortened version).

OK, lets see,
Breakfast- egg cooked in the middle of a gluten-free piece of bread. Fry it up with butter on the bread, cut out the middle with a cup and add the egg. Flip till lightly browned. Also butter the middle circle thingy and fry that too. OJ and piece of cut up fruit.
Lunch-corn tortilla, may, tuna or hard boiled egg.
gluten-free pretzels, cut up fruit left over from breakfast.
Milk, rice milk, water, whatever to drink.
Cookie from the gluten-free bakery.
Dinner-
Nuked chicken with melted cheese on top,
green beans,
fried rice (white rice fried in butter, added gluten-free friend rice package)
drink of choice.....chocolate milk or rice milk
snack- I buy quite a few of the fruit things that diabetics use. I dont' know what they are called. Fruit Leather I think. Also, Breyers icecream and peanutbutter shake that my hubby makes.
-
I called butterball today while at the grocery store. In my celiac meeting on Tuesday, someone said butterball was gluten-free and had it right on the labe. I didn't see that anywhere. Anyway, the gravy is NOT gluten free. The bird it self is gluten free, it's not injected or glazed with anything.
1800butterball is the number.

Gluten Free Candy List
“ROCK”TOBER2006
Disclaimer: This list is for reference only and the user should contact manufacturers directly. It is a guideline and
the user accepts full responsibility for use of it. At the time of it’s posting, it is believed to be accurate with current
gluten-free information. As a gluten-free consumer, you are responsible for making your own food selections. I am
not a medical expert; I’m a mom of a Celiac kindergartener who is always on a quest for gluten-free knowledge.
Notes: Please beware of candy that is not in its “normal shape.” Often times, that means the ingredients are
different, and could very well contain gluten. Bags of mixed treats that do have gluten containing treats that touch
each other should be discarded due to cross-contamination. If there is a treat that may not be listed on here, do not
be alarmed… just check with the manufacturer. I couldn’t get them all on here and I’m sure there are some I have
forgotten.
Thanks: I would like to thank all of the people who have shared information to make this list possible… including
several ROCK leaders (Sue & Elissa of NJ ROCK, Carrie of Reno ROCK, Melissa of TampaBay ROCK, Becky of San
Diego ROCK) who consistently share their information with me and our ROCK Northern Virginia chapter. I’d also like
to thank Lindsay Amadeo of Iowa (who maintains a wonderful gluten-free commercial product listing which includes many
tricks and treats). Thanks to EVERYONE who responded in my quest for helping with the update of my list from
previous years.
~ Have a Spook-tacular Halloween!!!

o Dairy
We do not use any dairy products (including milk and egg) in the

The majority of our MARSHMALLOW PEEPS® do not contain dairy
products (including milk and egg). However, the flavor that we use in our
PEEPS® Cocoa Cats does contain dairy components. Also, there is milk in
the chocolate portion of the PEEPS® in a Milk Chocolate Egg and Crispy
Milk Chocolate Egg.
The dark chocolatey coating we use in Original CHEW-ETS® PEANUT

Original CHEW-ETS® PEANUT CHEWS® are manufactured on shared
equipment with Milk Chocolatey CHEW-ETS® PEANUT CHEWS®,
therefore, milk may be present.
o Peanuts/Nuts
The chocolate egg in our PEEPS® in a Milk Chocolate Egg may contain

exception of CHEW-ETS® PEANUT CHEWS®, we do not use peanuts or
nuts in the manufacture of any of our other candies. CHEW-ETS®
PEANUT CHEWS® are manufactured in Philadelphia, while our other
candies (except the chocolate eggs) are made at our facility in Bethlehem.
o Gluten
The modified food starch used in the manufacture of our jelly bean candies
is corn starch. To the best of our knowledge, all of our candies, except the
chocolate portion of the Crispy Milk Chocolate Egg, are gluten-free. There
8
may be trace amounts of gluten in the malt extract portion of the crispy
egg.
o Soy
The following brands do not contain soy or soy protein: MARSHMALLOW
PEEPS®, MIKE AND IKE®, HOT TAMALES®, ZOURS®, TEENEE
BEANEE® Jelly Beans and JUST BORN® Jelly Beans. However, at one
time, some of our PEEPS® products did contain soy protein. Although it
was removed from the recipe in December of 2002, some of our packaging
still has this ingredient listed. Packaging updates are in progress. CHEWETS
® PEANUT CHEWS® contain soya lecithin.
o Kosher
The following brands are certified as kosher pareve: MIKE AND IKE®,
HOT TAMALES®, ZOURS®, TEENEE BEANEE® Jelly Beans and JUST
BORN® Jelly Beans. CHEW-ETS® PEANUT CHEWS® are certified as
kosher dairy. They are manufactured under the supervision of the
Kashruth Division of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of
America.

Kraft Caramels (September 2003)
Kraft will list major allergens (October 20, 2006)
Open Original Shared Link Carefully read the
ingredient statements on all food labels each time you make food selections. This enables you
to obtain the most accurate ingredient information for the specific products you select. It
also allows you to get the most current information since ingredients in products may change
over time. The ingredient information on labels of Kraft products is very specific to help you
9
make accurate and informed choices. If a Kraft product contains gluten, a source of gluten
will be listed in the ingredient statement, no matter how small the amount.
o For labeling purposes, we include wheat, barley, rye and oats as sources of gluten.
1) If A Kraft product has a gluten-containing grain. The grain is listed in the
ingredient line using commonly known terms such as wheat, barley, rye or oats. 2)
If A Kraft product is made with an ingredient that contains a source of gluten and
that ingredient is the only source of gluten in the product. The grain source is
listed in parentheses after the ingredient. This method is used, as necessary, to
identify ingredient sources for natural flavor, modified food starch and others.
o Tips About Common Ingredients: Food Starch and Modified Food Starch: When
listed in the ingredient statement of Kraft products, “food starch” and “modified
food starch”often refer to corn starch. Our ingredient suppliers assure us that
the corn starch we use in our products does not contain gluten. If a Kraft product
uses food starches from a gluten- containing source, such as wheat starch, the
source will always be identified in the ingredient statement. HVP (Hydrolyzed
Vegetable Protein): If a Kraft product uses hydrolyzed vegetable protein, the
source will always be identified in the ingredient statement. Mustard/Mustard
Flour: This ingredient does not contain gluten. Vinegar: When listed in the
ingredient statement of Kraft products, distilled vinegar is used. According to our
ingredient suppliers, the distilled vinegar we use does not contain gluten.
o Conclusion: We realize that making accurate food choices is important to people
who follow a gluten-free diet. To help you make appropriate food selections,
ingredient statements of Kraft, Oscar Mayer and Nabisco products clearly
identify any product that contains a source of gluten. Please remember to
carefully read ingredient statements each time you make food selections. For
personalized information about your medical condition, seek the advice of a health
professional and specialty resources. Labeling practices and tips are based on
Kraft Foods approach to manufacturing and labeling products. Practices used by
other manufacturers may differ. Check with a health professional for
personalized medical advice.

high quality food products for our consumers. Therefore, we have developed strict rules
about the labeling of allergens on our products. Our allergen labeling policy consists of two
parts:
o I. The labeling of allergens that are part of the recipe: 1) We always declare the
presence of any top allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, soy, wheat, fish and
crustacean shellfish) whenever they are part of the recipe, regardless of the
source (e.g., flavors, spices, colors, other minor ingredients, etc.).* 2) We label
these allergens in commonly understood terms at least once within the ingredient
listing (e.g., casein (milk), etc.
o II. The use of "May Contain <allergen>" labeling: It is our company policy that if
the protein from any one of the top eight allergens* were to be unintentionally
transferred from one product/ingredient to another, then we would clearly
indicate this in a statement just below the ingredient declaration ("Allergy
Information: May Contain <allergen>"). As a result, we use the "May Contain
<allergen>" statement when: We have used all reasonable means to eliminate the
allergen cross contact; and We have documented proof that, despite our best
cleaning efforts, allergen cross contact exists. Position of Allergen Advisory
Labeling Statements: The primary source of information for consumers about the
allergen status of our products is the wrapper in which the product is sold. Our
company guidelines state that when an allergen advisory statement is required, it
will: Appear below/adjacent to the ingredient declaration , Not be obscured by
the package (e.g., folds, label overlap, crimps, etc.) , Be clearly legible , Always
Read the Label , The label is the best source in determining what is in the product.
If you are allergic or sensitive to certain foods or ingredients, you should always
read the ingredient statement and any allergen statements to ensure the product
does not contain ingredients of concern to you. For consumers who would like
additional information, we are pleased to provide a toll–free number on all of our
product packages. You may contact Consumer Care at 1–800–627–7852. For
general information about food allergy, please visit the website of the Food
Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network ==> Open Original Shared Link. * The top eight
allergenic foods responsible for greater than 90% of the adverse reactions in
people of the U.S. are: milk, eggs, fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod), crustacean
shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp), tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans),
peanuts, wheat, and soybeans. Source: FDA website

Stretch Island 100% Fruit Snack (October 20, 2006)
Open Original Shared Link Q: I have a gluten intolerance (celiac
disease), can I eat Stretch Island Fruit Leathers? A: Celiac sufferers and their parents or
caregivers especially appreciate Stretch Island Fruit Leather, since it’s so straight
foreword: 100% fruit. The question regarding gluten in our product arises from concern
over the ingredients used in the natural flavorings that are added to certain Fruit Leather
flavors –specifically alcohols and/or vinegars that may be included. All of our flavor suppliers
have provided us with written statement that there is no gluten in the flavorings that they
supply us. Also, according to the Gluten Intolerance Group: “ Alcohols and vinegars properly
distilled should not contain harmful gluten peptides. Research indicates that the gluten
peptide is too large to carry over in the distillation process. This leaves the resultant liquid
gluten-free unless a gluten-containing additive is inserted after the distillation process”
Also, please note that natural flavors are used only in the following flavors of Stretch Island
Fruit Leather: Chunky Cherry, Sweet Strawberry, Truly Tropical, Wild Apple, Mucho Mango
and Organic Strawberry (organic flavor). **Melonie’s note: available at most Trader Joe’s
stores on the East Coast.

Celiac Sprue disease (also known as tropical sprue or gluten-sensitive enteropathy), Utz
Quality Foods, Inc. manufactures a number of snack food products that DO NOT contain any
of the following grains, or their protein derivatives: Wheat (including durum, semolina,
bulgur, couscous, graham, spelt and kamut), Rye, Triticale, Barley, Oats, Einkorn. Grains that
are believed to be safe include rice, corn, sorghum, amaranth, quinoa, and millet. The citric
acid, maltodextrin and monosodium glutamate (MSG) we use in some of our seasonings are
manufactured in the United States. The citric acid is made from the fermentation of cornbased
dextrose and maltodextrin from the partial hydrolysis of cornstarch. MSG is the salt
form of glutamic acid. It is not a source of free glutamate, as it is molecularly bound up as a
salt. This compound contains no protein gluten, e.g. gliadin. It is also our understanding that
adhering to a gluten free diet is also very important for those with an associated skin
disease known as dermatitis herpetiformis. In addition, people who have been diagnosed with
any of the following diseases should discuss with their physician the possible health benefits
of adopting a gluten free diet: Addison’s disease, Aphthous stomatitis, Dilated
cardiomyopathy, Primary biliary cirrhosis, Peripheral neuropathy. Below is a list of Utz
products that should not trigger the symptoms of celiac disease:
o Potato Chips:
Fried in cottonseed oil
o Regular, plain (flat, ripple, wavy cut)
o Reduced fat
o Barbeque
o Carolina Style BBQ
o Sour Cream & Onion
o Salt & Vinegar
o Salt & Pepper
o Cheddar & Sour Cream

o Kettle Classics (plain, Dark Russet, Sweet Potato, Smokin’ Sweet BBQ, Sour Cream
& Chive, Jalapeno)

o All Natural Kettle Cooked (Lightly Salted, Dark Russet, Sea Salt & Vinegar,
Gourmet Medley)
Fried in shortening (partially hydrogenated soybean oil)
o Home Style Kettle Cooked, plain
Fried in lard

o Corn Products:
White Corn Tortilla Chips

Corn Chips (plain, barbeque)
Popcorn (butter, cheese, white cheddar)
Natural White Cheddar Cheese Curls
Baked Cheese Curls and Balls
Crunchy Cheese Curls
Puff ‘N Corn (plain, cheese, caramel)
o Please note that we believe the aforementioned product listing is accurate, but we
can not completely guarantee it at all times. It is possible that some of our
suppliers may change the source of some of the raw materials they use to
manufacture our various seasonings and flavorings without notifying us, as long as
it does not alter the required ingredient statement, nutrition content, flavor
profile, and shelf life. As a consequence, we periodically contact all our ingredient
suppliers to update our file for the purpose of determining if such generic food
groups as flavorings, spices, certain colorings and even incidental additives
(normally used as processing aids) may contain allergenic components and which
may not be reflected in our current ingredient statement. An additional
complication to this matter is the potential fact that the manufacturing facilities
of our ingredient suppliers may use common manufacturing lines to produce
different formulations for accounts other than our own. Obviously, these
production lines are thoroughly cleaned between changeovers, but there is always
the potential for trace contamination. Notwithstanding the above concerns, we
have been giving out the aforementioned list of Utz branded “safe” snacks to
people who have celiac disease for a number of years, with obvious updates as our
product line changes. We hope this information is helpful to you. Though we
believe the information provided here is accurate, we can not assume
responsibility for any undesirable consequences. We encourage you to use this
information in consultation with your physician or nutrition specialist. If we can
be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again. For our
consumers who wish to learn more about gluten sensitive diseases, we encourage
you to contact the Celiac Sprue Association using their toll free number, 877-

o Winterfresh® gum

o Winterfresh® Thin Ice breath strips
o Orbit White gum

What is the white powder substance on your (Wrigley’s) gum? All Wrigley
gums are brushed with a rolling powder before they are encased in the foil
wrappers that keep them fresh. On our sugared brands a granulated sugar,
which has the appearance of confectionary sugar, is used. On our sugar
free brands a dusting of sugar substitute is used. The amount of the
powder used may vary and depends on the handling of the operator. In
general, our Extra® brand gums have more rolling powder brushed on them
than other brands.

Yes, before going gluten-free I used to have mega diareah before my cycle would start and then it would last a day or two into it. Since I have been gluten-free, it gets loose, but not like before where it was completely all liquid.... and oh,
the smell was awful, espeically the flatulence about a week before. But now even that is much better.

Specialized Laboratory Analysis for Optimum Intestinal and Overall Health
Kenneth D. Fine, M.D.
Medical Director
10875 Plano Rd., Suite 123 Dallas, Texas 75238
Final Laboratory Report
Date: 10/17/2006
Name: VanZwoll, Nicole
A) Gluten Sensitivity Stool and Gene Panel Complete *Best test/best value
Fecal Antigliadin IgA 16 (Normal Range <10 Units)
Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 7 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)
Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score 104 Units (Normal Range <300 Units)
Fecal anti-casein (cow’s milk) IgA antibody 7 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)
HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0303
HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0503
Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 9,5)
Interpretation of Fecal Antigliadin IgA: Intestinal antigliadin IgA antibody was elevated, indicating that you have active dietary gluten sensitivity. For optimal health, resolution of symptoms (if you have them), and prevention of small intestinal damage and malnutrition, osteoporosis, and damage to other tissues (like nerves, brain, joints, muscles, thyroid, pancreas, other glands, skin, liver, spleen, among others), it is recommended that you follow a strict and permanent gluten free diet. As gluten sensitivity is a genetic syndrome, you may want to have your relatives screened as well.
Interpretation of Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA: The level of intestinal IgA antibodies to the human enzyme tissue transglutaminase was below the upper limit of normal, and hence, there is no evidence of a gluten-induced autoimmune reaction.
Interpretation of Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score: A fecal fat score less than 300 indicates there is no malabsorbed dietary fat in stool indicating that digestion and absorption of nutrients is currently normal.
Interpretation of Fecal anti-casein (cow’s milk) IgA antibody: Levels of fecal IgA antibody to a food antigen greater than or equal to 10 are indicative of an immune reaction, and hence immunologic “sensitivity” to that food. For any elevated fecal antibody level, it is recommended to remove that food from your diet. Values less than 10 indicate there currently is minimal or no reaction to that food and hence, no direct evidence of food sensitivity to that specific food. However, because 1 in 500 people cannot make IgA at all, and rarely, some people can still have clinically significant reactions to a food antigen despite the lack of a significant antibody reaction (because the reactions primarily involve T cells), if you have an immune syndrome or symptoms associated with food sensitivity, it is recommended that you try a strict removal of suspect foods from your diet for up to 12 months despite a negative test.
Interpretation Of HLA-DQ Testing: Although you do not possess the main genes predisposing to celiac sprue (HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8), HLA gene analysis reveals that you have two copies of a gene that predisposes to gluten sensitivity (DQ1 or DQ3 not subtype 8). Having two copies of a gluten sensitive gene, means that each of your parents, and all of your children (if you have them) will possess at least one copy of the gene. Two copies also means there is an even stronger predisposition to gluten sensitivity than having one gene and the resultant immunologic gluten sensitivity may be more severe.

HI, My daughter and I haven't been diagnosed, however we've been on a gluten-free diet. When we do have something, my daughter does get stomaches that land her on the couch and crying. Some are more painful then others. I too have trouble with it. That's what started the whole thing for me. I had an endoscopy done and had a swollen stomach lining. Doc said I don't know what it's that way. Maybe just stop taking ibprofen. I've long stopped that and still get the aches and pains.

HI, I 've had a high ana for a longggggg time too. It's been as high as 640 with a speckled pattern as well, but all tests have come back negative. SO I don't know either. I"ve been going to rheumatologists for years and they don't know either.

HI, I was looking for the gluten-free product list and wondered where to look. I"ve been looking up each company name and I thought, there must be an easier way to do this. I think it'll help my grocery store shopping.

Cold All The Time
in Coping with Celiac Disease
Posted
HI, I normally have always had a low body temp too and this made tracking my cycle while trying to get pregnant virtually void according to the doc, he couldn't believe it. Anyhow, my feet and hand used to be freezing too and so did the rest of me. I'd walk around the house with a hot rice bag most of the day. Since I began taking vit d last year, it's helped a ton and even sometimes my hubby says I don't always have to wear sock to bed anymore. Vit D is worth looking in to.
And about the thyroid. If you suspect something isn't right, go get your blood work done a few time when you have that intuition that it's not right. It took a long time for them to catch mine, and it's hypo. I was right. If you have a feeling about it, keep persistant. It's a tough on to check.
