  1. Hey, everyone! I was doing some research on this for potential future plans, and a skim didn't show me what I wanted. (This probably only means I'm blind, not that it's not out there. )

Does anyone know about roughly how long your body takes to get back into the swing of things after you go gluten-free? Is it like, for example, going off depo-provera -- they say it could take upwards of a year before you can get pregnant again. Or is it more of an immediate thing?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not sure if anyone has talked about this yet, but before I was diagnosed I became pregnant 6 times and had a miscarriage each time. Finally in 1997 I became pregnant (still not diagnosed) and had my now 10 year old son in 1998. He was 4# 13 oz. I believe due to my undiagnosed celiac.

People need to know not to broadcast the "+" sign on the home pregnancy test to the entire world before knowing everything is ok.

  2. Hi there,

My name is Sara and I'm moving to Chicago, the first week of January (for a South Florida girl who's never seen snow, I know this is going to be a rude awakening!). Yesterday I was diagnosed with celiac disease and I've been surfing the net, trying to get some information and found this site! I'll be living in Forest Park and working in River Grove. If anyone has any information on restaurants, gluten-free shops, meet ups, etc, anything and everything would be a tremendous help!!! I've never been the new kid, so this is all a little scary for me, hah.

Hi--you may already know about these by now, but if you haven't tried DaLucianos in River Grove yet you really should. They have a great Italian gluten free menu. Also there is a Gluten Free Store in Northbrook I think. Since you work in River Grove you will be able to get fresh gluten free pizza any time you want it! I am very jealous.

  3. I have very dry skin (especially in the winter) and happened upon a great product about a month or so before I had my positive biopsy. It is called Nexcare Advanced Skin Cream. I just put some on my hands this morning and was marveling at how soft they felt when I looked at the ingredient label and...shock!...noticed it said "Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract". I called the 1-800 number on the label and the person on the other end said that while the Nexcare Skin Crack Care (another good product) does NOT contain gluten, the Advanced Skin Cream "may" contain it.

I know there are other products out there that are probably as good as this stuff. I just want to know if I'm being over the top or if there is a chance the "possible" gluten in this could enter my body and cause a problem.

  4. I have recently had a positive biopsy for celiac and am trying to convince my brother to get tested. However, he does not have health insurance and therefore it is difficult to get him to realize how important it is for him to be tested. Does anyone know what the usual cost is of the necessary blood tests for celiac if you have to be self-pay? Also, if anyone knows of any medical centers in Florida that are going to be having free screenings that information would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance.
