  1. Hi there. I am so glad someone is dicussing this. I know I have candida ( I have so many symptoms, and have done the questionarre and home test. Read about the self test for candida on the web. I am currently about to start taking Threelac for candida and also just started liquid oxygen to help alkalize my PH. With threelac you don't have to be on the strict diet, but should limit carbs and avoid sugar. It has had amazing success. I will keep people updated if I see progress. The gluten free diet helped for a while, but I am backsliding and I believe it is the candida. I would recommend doing lots of reading about all the disorders associated with candida. It is common in celiacs. Also candida can cause food intolerances. So I wonder for those who are intolerant but do not have celiac if the candida could have caused it. Let me know what you think.

I've been wondering about the celiac/candida connection. I've only been diagnosed (antibody level>1000 and positive biopsy) for a little over 2 months, but I'm seeing NO improvement despite really policing my food, my cosmetics, my body lotion for gluten. Since I was a total carbo-holic prior to diagnosis, I'm not sure if I've got other issues or if the damage is just going to take longe to repair. Any suggestions or clues on what to look for on candida would be appreciated.

  2. I am in the "I asked, and got a sandwhich" camp. I always pack my own food.

I requested gluten free on a Northwest flight from Detroit to Frankfurt, Germany last month, but did not receive one. They gave me the salad from the regular meal plate, which was a bit skimpy, but otherwise ok.

On the return flight I did receive a gluten free meal and it was not great. It included baked fish and rice with a suspect, but tasteless yellow sauce. The package of crackers included in the plate clearly listed wheat as an ingredient... For the snack before landing I did get a nice banana, though!

I'm flying Lufthansa in two weeks and have put in my request for gluten free. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! ;)

  3. I just got back from a trip to Germany. My advice for the in-flight meal is to request gluten free, but take your own food just in case. The meal I got from Northwest included crackers?!?! and some very nasty looking terrine. The fish and rice were fine, if incredibly dry.

In Germany I searched out the "Bio" section in the regular grocery store - it's green and pretty easy to find. I got a few staples there to keep me going. Be careful with tortilla chips in the regular snack aisle - all the ones I found contained wheat. I'm pretty sure with my almost non-existent German I was getting glutened in restaurants - either that or I picked up a traveler's bug.

I had only been diagnosed for about a week before the trip, so my gluten-detection skills are still developing! I may be moving there, though, so either my German or my gluten finding will improve - hopefully both.

    Good luck!

  4. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in gluten free eating in Germany. I was diagnosed about two weeks ago, so I'm on a steep gluten learning curve AND have been offered a career opportunity in Russelsheim, Germany. Both are exciting pieces of information, but I'm not sure how realistic it will be to try to find gluten in a language I'm not even close to being fluent in. All thoughts will be appreciated!
