  1. Thanks Georgie. I'm a pretty stubborn girl, who usually refuses peoples help; thinking I can handle it all on my own. I think I better play it safe here and have someone drop me off and pick me up. I have a really low blood sugar normally anyways, and the whole not eating and getting blood taking a bunch doesn't sound like it will help matters.

I can't believe they had to tip-toe over to you!! That just amazes me, that your body can react so quickly like that. I was reading that you were still on the cortisone for the test, there's a big chance that altered the results. My doc wanted me off anything and everything that has to do with stress/adrenals for a full 6 weeks before he'd do the test. (Needless to say..within four days of going off my meds...I feel like I'm going nuts and freaking out about everything, and have absolutely no energy..and fall asleep as soon as I get home. )

Well, at least your GP sounds like they have a good idea of what's going on with you. Not all endocrinologists are good...from what I've heard...most are idiots. (Well, that can be said about a LOT of doctors.) Hopefully you'll be able to get some answers from there soon. It's no fun trying to figure out what's wrong and making you feel so awful all the time. Good luck...I hope you get some relief soon.

  2. Thanks Georgie! I'll have to give it a few more weeks before I see if there's a difference for me. Since they took me off the adrenal support pills I was on, for an accurate ACTH stimulation test, I'm not feeling well by any means right now. I'm assuming it's an IV test, since they scheduled me to goto the hospital for it, instead of a medical clinic. Nobody (the doctor or hospital) has given me any information on it, other than I'll be there for a few hours. I was wondering if I'd need to have someone pick me up or not. I already took the day off work in case I didn't feel great afterwards. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't drive myself home afterwards. Maybe I better see if my hubby can drop me off and pick me up. The test isn't until the 21st, so maybe they'll be calling with instructions??

Did you get any answers with your test results??

  3. That's great!! I'm so glad you had such a positive experience. It seems like if you don't speak up and ask if there's anything available to eat, you'll never know. I'm from St. Clair Shores, and will be heading that way for a wedding this summer. After checking out Moo Moo's site, I'll be stopping in for sure! Thanks for the tip!

  4. Make sure your doc has you use Armour or Cytomel. Stay away from Synthroid as it often does not help.

Hi there, don't mean to jump in here...but just have a question. I was on Armour for about 4-5 yrs, and have recently switched doctors. I've always been very adamant about Armour, and how Synthroid is worthless to me. Anyways, I was on 3.5 grain of Armour, and still having hypothyroid symptoms, but my tsh was under 0.0003, and the rest of the ft3 and ft4 were "ok", somewhat off, but not bad. I explained how the very first doc that put me on Synthroid, and I felt even worse. His response was "Of course you felt like crap, they didn't give you Cytomel with it. You were only treating a tiny portion of your problem." He feels that I need Synthroid and Cytomel, so he can control the T3 and T4 separately. Has anyone had any luck with taking these two together?? He is one of those "armour comes from animals, is hard to regulate the dosage, that's why your t3's and t4's have been all over the place these last few years. You need them treated like separate problems." I'm now on .1 mg of Synthroid and 10mcg of Cytomel. Any suggestions if this might work? Thanks in advance!

(He also suspects adrenal problems and has scheduled me for the acth stimulation test in a few weeks.)

  5. I'm sorry you are having to deal with these "less than pleasant" doctors! I've been hypothyroid (and Hashimoto) for about 7 yrs now, and I'm finally now (I think anyways) seeing a good endocrinologist. I don't know much about supplements, as I've always been on prescribed medication for it. I do know that my new doctor who I just saw a few weeks ago, recommends to take zinc picolinate (body absorbs this form better than the other zinc supplement) as well as selenium. He changed my meds up, and is also sending me to the hospital for the ACTH stimulation test, as he suspects some of my symptoms are adrenal related, not thyroid. I will say, my hair seems to not be falling out quite as much..but I'm still freezing all the time! I live in Florida...soooo, yeah...it's not normal! He suspects my coldness has to do with nerve damage, and will be checking into that too.

I would definitely try to get a good selenium and zinc picolinate supplement to start with. I've also heard coconut oil is great like RiceGuy said. Also, taking B12 sub lingual is a good idea too, if you are low on energy and always fatigued. Good luck! If you have any questions...feel free to PM me.

  6. I was just curious if anyone has investigated to find out if regular tattoo ink has soy in it. I plan on getting one this summer and I'd like to find out soon. I have a tattoo already, but it's 10 yrs old, and back then I was young and clueless to all my health problems. I plan on contacting the place I'll be going to, but figured I'd ask here first. Thanks everyone! :)

  7. I used to get the potato at Wendy's, but looks like that's out for me at least. I just usually bring my own food and then buy a soda. No one's ever said anything.

Do you have a Panera Bread near you? I have heard they will prepare a salad for you in a clean bowl. I personally have not tried it.

Another sometimes safe quick option could be Chinese. You can get steamed shrimp and veggies with plain white rice, but you do have to ask them to prepare it in a clean bowl so there is no soy sauce CC. This is sometimes difficult if there is a language barrier.

I LOVE Panera Bread!! I honestly never, ever thought this would be a place I could eat at. I can't have gluten, soy or dairy. They actually have an ingredient list behind the counter that you can look at. It has every single item in there, from salads, to dressings, soups, etc. I've never had a problem with cc there either. I love the black bean soup, and the Fuji Apple Chicken salad (I have to get a different dressing than the one it comes with though, due to soy.)

Here is the latest gluten-free list they sent me:

GLUTEN FREE LIST - Panera Bread **

**Although we do our very best to meet your special requirements, we cannot rule out the possibility of cross contact between these items and gluten-containing foods in our bakery-caf

  8. I also have adrenal fatigue. It started about a year and a half ago, when I had a very invasive surgery. I had already been gluten free for about two years. I went back to work too soon, I have my own business, and work 6 days a week on my own. Apparently that was a bit too much! (Both surgeons wanted me to take over a month off work to recover.) I've been taking this:

    Open Original Shared Link

It's gluten, soy, dairy free. I honestly started to feel the difference in the first few days. I was always so tired (I also have Hashimoto) and was freaking out about every little thing imaginable. I've been taking it for over 6 months now, and will continue for about a year, and then try to cut back. After my doctor did some blood work, he thought I could try the cortef, but I really was against it. So I found this supplement, and asked his opinion. He thought it was a very good supplement, and I trust him. Good luck!!

  9. I'm 5'8" and have been about this height since I was 9-10 yrs old. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 24, although I was seeing a pediatric gastrointestinal doctor when I was 9 already! He just tested me for everything under the sun except food allergies/intolerances! I also drank coffee as a kid....so I guess either it didn't stunt my growth, or, I would've been super tall!

  10. I will never again buy this stuff. I vowed never to do it and I caved in when my daughter begged for it. She wanted the single serve boxes for her lunch.

I bought one 3-pack. Saw no gluten warnings. She drank it. She was fine. She wanted more. I bought 3 more 3-packs. Wish I hadn't. I didn't notice the warnings that said less then 0.002% gluten from barley on there. Put one in the fridge and the other 2 in the garage.

Yesterday, I was getting something out of the garage and saw the warning on one of the packages. I said to her, "I hate to tell you this, but..." And sure enough, she had consumed a little carton of it just prior. She said she felt fine, but as the day went on, things got bad.

A couple of hours before bed, she became very cranky and irriitable. Said she was sleepy and didn't want to take her bath. I had a hard time getting her to bathe and she collapsed in bed right after that. All night, I listened to her having gas. It was really loud. Then at about 6 a.m., she said she thought she was going to puke. She never did that, but did make several trips to the bathroom. I had to keep her home from school and it's a good thing I did. She didn't quite make it to the toilet one time.

So that settles it. No more Rice Dream for us in any form. I just wish one of the other brands would make up single serve packages. They are sooo much more convenient for us. If I open a large carton I almost always throw half of it out because it spoils before we can use it all.

Sorry that you had this problem. That's why I always check each and every time I purchase it, just to be safe. I guess it's just second nature to me now. Hopefully other brands will make single serving milks. As long as the statement about having less than 0.002% isn't on there, it should be safe for her, but after your ordeal, I understand not wanting to try.

  11. Well, I've never had any problems with the EnviroKidz cereals. I eat them at least a few times a week. I will say, I think I was glutened while out with some friends two weeks ago. The only thing I can think of, is that the bartender spilled a drop of beer into my drink. Anyways, I was sick for almost the full two weeks! I am just starting to feel better. So, it could be that they are still healing up from the 10th for sure, especially if they are sensitive and had a decent amount of gluten enter their systems. I hope they feel better soon!

  12. Katie, have you found any other eateries in the Naples area? We are thinking of moving there and plan a "search" trip in Dec. Will be staying in Bonita Springs where I've gotten a room with kitchenette because I've recently become intolerant of soy as well as gluten.

Are there any sources of gluten free foods in Naples or do you have to shop in Ft. Myers and on line?

    Look forward to your reply.

    Tinka Z

    Hi Tinka!

Well, I honestly haven't been out too much lately, I've been really busy at my shop. I decided I'm going to venture out and try a new place soon though. I think anywhere that is Italian and has olive oil should be safe. They can cook the meat in a separate pan with olive oil, and it should be fine. I've emailed two restaurants on Marco Island and am awaiting their reply. There are 4 smaller health food stores that I know of in Naples, that stock A LOT of gluten-free, sf, cf items. Also, there is a Wild Oats in Naples (on Airport Pulling, north of Pine Ridge, where the Hollywood 20 is.) It's being turned into Whole Foods, and it's fab-u-lous!!! LOL I love the area here, even though it's pricey! Feel free to PM me with any questions!! Have an awesome time on your trip!!!

  13. Lactose in medications and supplements should technically be free of casein. You should choose another brand if you're not comfortable taking it though.

To the best of my knowledge, that is correct. I've been calling on my meds to make sure they're gfdsfcf. A few of them have said "yes, there is pharmaceutical lactose, but NO casein." I've been ok with the pharmaceutical grade lactose, no indigestion problems like I would normally get with lactose.

  14. I'm all about change..I think change is a good thing.

I also love green and white, as I went to Michigan State University, and those were our colors. I also think having ads on here is good, the fees for Scott to have this forum up and running can't be cheap. I just hope the green gets lightened up. I only signed on a few minutes ago, and my eyes are twitchy, and I have a headache. (I'm online on numerous websites all day....just these colors are getting me.) I definitely won't be on here as much if it stays this way...it's hard on my eyes...

  15. Hey, thanks for your help, guys. I don't drink coffee and I never have, but I've only been gluten-free for about a month and a half. A few weeks ago I also stopped eating simple sugars almost completely, and that helped for a while, but now I'm falling and slurring my words and getting sick again after meals. I think it's because I get so hungry that I eat really fast and I get too many carbs, but I don't know. I do feel much better after going gluten-free though, and now my body's like a sugar detector, because if there's sugar in something, I definitely react.

Cutting out the simple sugars is definitely good! I forgot to mention that, as well as cut out simple carbs too. I only eat complex carbs (like brown rice instead of white rice, yellow or blue corn chips instead of white corn, lots of quinoa, etc) and that has helped too! I think the body processes the simple sugars and carbs too fast, and then it spikes and drops the sugar too much. The only sugar I really have is natural, from fruit and stuff. I also try to only use agave nectar syrup or stevia instead of sugar or splenda stuff. Both agave and stevia do NOT affect your blood sugar, and have a 0 glycemic index.

Please be careful, it's not good to be slurring and falling!! (I've been there too, and it honestly scared the crap out of me!!!) I hope everything gets better for you soon!!

  16. I'm not a pet owner, but those of you interested in celiac disease in pets should check out a website by "Dogtor J". He's a celiac who also happens to be a vet. He has a lot of insight into celiac disease in animals (did you know that celiac disease is common in Irish Setters?)

Oh, I'm definitely going to check out that link, thank you! I have a Border Collie, which is in the same "family" as Irish Setters I believe.

  17. Well, I was definitely hypoglycemic before going gluten free. I have had episodes of blurred vision, and fallen down, and been almost unconscious. I would be fine as long as I ate something with some carbs, fat and protein every 4 hours or so.

After going gluten free, I was great for almost the first 6 months. No major dizzy spells or anything! Then somehow they started coming back, and with vengeance! Then I figured out I was allergic to soy, and that was a big factor. Now I can't have casein either. (both soy and casein cause intestinal problems and a severe rash for me) I seem to be better now that I've been casein free for 2 months now. BUT, I still have to eat something every 2-3 hours, no matter what. I'm not sure if mine will ever go away, but there's always wishful thinking! (My "normal" blood sugar after eating is about 60-65)

  18. I prefer fresh veggies and fruit too....Sadly, the growing season is coming to an end here so now it will either pay the price for not so good tasting fruit or eat canned.

Oh, I hear ya! I was sooo mad when I realized Pink Lady apples went out of season!! Those are my absolute favorite!! I think I'll do a combo...some fresh, some canned. I love the Honeycrisp apples too...but at $4/lb....it's insane!!

  19. Where do you buy the EVO and Wellness brands of food?

Funny note on dog biscuits and toddlers, my dad got some biscuits called Ms.Pugslys (I think that's the name, it had pug in it) that were free of all common allergens. The dogs didn't like them at first, but I tried them and they weren't half bad!

    Ezme

We buy Wellness at Pet Supermarket. (I don't think Pet Smart carries it) I also noticed they have it at Wild Oats and Whole Foods stores. Our dog looooves Wellness, he eats it so fast!! Other brands we tried...like Nutro...he'd eat it...but not all at one sitting.

  20. Where are you looking? It's not on the front of the package. It's at the bottome of the ingredient list but it is written in large print. (At least, that's where it is on the important items in my pantry . . . the au gratin potatos, chocolate chips, and gummy worms :P:lol::lol: )

Well, I think I was looking in the correct place on the back of the package...but I only checked a few items, since I can't have soy or casein either, and don't really eat anything processed or with high fructose corn syrup. I'll definitely check out a few other items next time! Thanks for your help!

  21. Wal-Marts peanut butter is not gluten-free because it is processed in a plant that also processes wheat. (If you remember the peanut butter recall recently, the Peter Pan pb was recalled along w/ the wm brand because they are manufactured in the same plant, so be careful!) Go look on their canned fruit, sour cream, cream cheese, etc. It will state gluten-free on there. If it doesn't, I don't buy it. Also, if ppl don't buy the special gluten-free products, like from the gluten-free Pantry, they will stop selling them. My walmart carried the 2 GFP mixes for about a month, but they didnt' sell well, so they stopped selling them. Same with Van's gluten-free waffles.

Look on the label under the nutrition box, above the WM address. It is right there if it is gluten-free. They started the new labels in Aug. 2006.

    ptkds

Hmm...maybe I was looking at only a few of the products I'd be able to eat from there..like the PB, which isn't gluten-free. That would make more sense! (I rarely eat anything processed since I'm gfsfcf) Also, makes sense that they get rid of it if there isn't a demand for the other gluten-free products. I'll have to check the canned fruit & veggies sometime then! (I like fresh....but I always stock up during hurricane season just in case!) Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
