  1. :( I just got diagnosed with celiac, and all my favorite foods are gone. I was just wondering, does anyone know how long it takes for the sadness to go away? All the websites seem so upbeat, but I don't feel upbeat at all. I just feel sad that I can't eat the things I used to. I hate going to the grocery store and seeing all of the baked goods, I hate going out to eat. I'm planning my wedding, and my mother in law does not understand at all how I feel. She wants most of the wedding cake to be made of wheat flour because it's cheaper, but I don't want to have to see a bunch of food that I can't eat at my wedding reception! It's my day! You only get the one, and I don't want to be sad on it. My fiance says he will talk to her, I hope it helps. I try to compromise when I can, but I just don't think I could stand it. :(
  2. A while back I got really cealiac sick from eating pop corn purchased at a sporting event. It made me really sick. I remembered that 'corn gluten' futures are traded on the Chicago exchange. I once discussed this with an animal nutritionist who argued me to the ground that it is the same gluten (chemically) that is in wheat (both are members of the grass family).

Anyway it turned out that the pop corn likely had been treated with MSG and it was that that made me sick. I have eaten corn since without a problem.

Does anyone have an opinion on this one. Do some celiac people get sick from the gluten in corn also??

corn is about the only thing I CAN eat. I was wondering about the popcorn thing though like movie popcorn. I read on a celiac site that msg was to be avoided my celiac patients. I got really sick once before my diagnosis from eating donuts that may have had it, but then again... I have celiac.

  3. Many of the drinks at Starbucks are Gluten Free. You just need to call them and they'll give you a list. I get lattes with their flavored syrups ALL th Time. Enjoy!!!!

do you know if the white hot chocolate is okay? I just got diagnosed with this and it feels like all my favorite foods are gone. I love the white hot chocolate with a little bit of raspberry syrup, but a lot of times when I ask restaurants if things are wheat or gluten free they give me the wrong answer. I ran into that problem with Chili's chips and I was in pain for over a week.

  4. :( aww man that sucks! it'll be okay though. Basically it's easier if you just think more along the lines of what you can't eat than what you can. Don't eat anything with wheat or barley or rhy in it, there's some others, like I think sorghum is out, but who eats that anyway? If it's too confusing grab some rice crisps (check the ingredients to screen for wheat first) caramels my favorite; some tostitos lime corn chips, and lots and lots of popcorn. Anything familiar that'll take the edge off the hunger, cuz you're gonna be exposed to a LOT of really weird tasting food once you start trying to find bread and stuff. That requires going to the whole foods store or looking online. Just time in gluten free in google and a bunch of stuff comes up. You'll get the hang of it. It's just aggrevating to not be able to eat your favorite foods anymore. But hang in there and get creative it'll be okay.

I was dignoised with Celiac Disease three weeks ago, I havn't seen my Doc since he just called me on the phone & told me & said to go on a Gluten Free Diet, the Hospital send me a list of food I can eat also a two page list on ingredients to look for some of them I can't even pronounce!!
