You can get a gluten free cake made at supposedly any resort that has its OWN bakery. The Grand Floridian is one,I think the Polynesian is also.. the bigger places have their own, they will make the cake and deliver it to where you want.. that is what one of the chefs inside Disney World told me.. I hope that helps!!!! enjoy your trip!!!
Thank you! we will be at the wilderness lodge so either one of those places will work out great!

Hi, we are huge Disney World fans and visit a few times a year, they are so wonderful accomodating my celiac needs! Anyway, hubby and i are going back for an anniversary getaway and since we were married there i thought it would be nice to have a special (gluten-free) cake for that evening. I have read on here before about peolpe doing this and how to go about it, but I can't find the post now. Can anyone help?
Thanks, MG

Thanks for all the replies! I am having my surgery as an outpatient, so no worries about hospital food only my husbands cooking! The percocet I took before when I had my gallbladder out and the only reaction i had was it made me very itchy so i had to chase it with benadryl. Which i am not sure, is Benadryl Gluten free? The sedation and anesthesia should be fine, as it was pointed out that that goes into my blood stream and I am not ingesting them. I am still working on finding out about this antibiotic, Keflex. I have researched it and found all the different generic forms but can't find if any are Gluten free. I will call a pharmacist this week and hopefully find out. My procedure is being done at a surgical center so no hospital will be involved and my Doc has pretty much left everything up to me in finding out if i can take the meds he is prescribing.

i've never heard of gluten in a IV anyway and I've never heard of that kind of pump, when I had cosmetic surgery mine was self-admisistering pump so i don't know about that, when exactly is your surgery, you should talk to the doctor before and ask about all the meds they will use, then ask for the brands and the phone numbers for the companies and call them if you have time beofre the surgery.
This type of pump is something new that goes right to the area of surgery and I guess just kind of numbs it. My surgery is the middle of March and as far as the other meds it's this antibiotic Keflex i need to get info on.
-
anesthesia is fine, I have been through many surgeries and pain pumps for me have usually been morphine and they are self-administering where you punch the button when you want the meds and only when you want the meds.
IV meds are almost always free of gluten and they are directly into the blood stream so they don't go into your intestine and I have always been fine with IV meds before
Thanks for the reply, I didn't think about it not going into the intestines therefore not an issue, Thanks! Unfortunatly mine is not a self medicating pump, the way I understand it it works similar to a drain, and i will only have it for a few days. Thanks again for the info, very helpful and reasurring!

I am having some "cosmetic" surgery coming up and had a question. I am a little nervous about the whole thing in general but especially when it comes to the meds that they will be administering. I am given percocet for pain which i have found is fine and an antibiotic called Keflex that I can't find any info on, does anyone know about this? I will also be put under local anesthesia and sedation and the part I am really concerned about is they install a pain pump and i am still trying to find out what meds are in that. At least meds that you swallow you can choose to take or not if they make you sick but a pain pump automatically administers the meds. The last thing I need while recovering is stomach/D issues! Any advice or comments?

The only cough syrup that helps me is Benylin but now that I am gluten free I don't know if it's allowed. I read the label and checked some websites but couldn't find anything difinitive.
Also, if Halls cough drops are not gluten free, do you know of any that are? It's that time of year again and my throat is killing me, my head aches, and I feel a cold/flu coming on.
Thanks,
Marlene
Sorry can't help you with the meds but the Halls cough drops, the way I understand it is that only the sugar free are Gluten free. I buy the sugar free black cherry and have no problem. Good luck!

Hi,
I was dx with Celiac 6 years ago. Although I've been very careful with my diet I am much more sensitive to any type of "acciental" gluten ingestion. I'm thinking about purchasing the Clan Thompson Gluten free list for either my PDA or computer. Does anyone else use this system??
Thanks!!
I have them both and love them! I use the one on my PDA the most but the one on my computer has an ingredients checker on it that I love, so when in doubt I type in the ingredient i am questioning and as long as its in there data base i get an answere. It is so helpful!!!

Thought I would share with you all, I made a great dinner last night, Cocconut chicken and orange marmalade sauce for dipping. It was my hubbys b-day and wanted to make a meal that I could also enjoy. It was great I made it all the time befofe going gluten-free, I only had to modify it slightly now.
Cocconut Chicken
4 skinless bonless chicken breasts cut in half (so they are not to thick)
marazetti dressing (used for cole slaw)
cocconut
gluten-free bread crumbs
orange marmalade
horseradish
dip chicken in marazetti dressing to coat it on both sides then dip in a mixture of cocconut and bread crumbs until fully coated, place in a greased baking dish bake at 350 for about 20-35 minutes or until chicken is cooked all the way through and coconut is lightly browned.
while chicken is baking mix a few spoonfuls of marmalade and aprox 1 spoonful of horseradish (dependes on how strong you want it to be) refrigerate until ready to eat then microwave for about 30 sec to slighty warm.
use marmalade for a dipping sauce for your Cocconut chicken.
Enjoy!

Thank You so much!!!
I bought the cream biscuits and the sandwich bread.
This store actually did not have that good of a selection so I was not as impressed. Hopefully I will be going towards Philly in a few weeks and I hear there are some out that way.
If you are close to Baltimore then I would recommend going to Wegmans grocery store they have a bunch of gluten-free foods. They label their store brand VERY clearly so I buy a ton of Salad dressings and marinades there!

I'M with HEZ on this one I also think it was cornstarch. It was good I ate there about a week ago but I do have to say it was definatly spicy!!

According to this site:
Open Original Shared Link
Immodium and Advil is on the list. So is Pepto Bismol. I'm having trouble locating Maalox, Gas-X and Mylicon, though I'm sure I've seen Mylicon on another list. It better be there, it's my only source for gas relief.
Okay, a follow up on Mylicon - one of the inactive ingredients is maltitol, which appears to be made from barley malt. Fortunately, the generic form (Target Infant Gas Relief Simethicone Drops) does not.
Thank you for your help!

I do believe that those are gluten free. Others will update you if they truly are. That is just not my area of knowledge.
We just got back from Disney. Let me tell you. They are the most accomodating place on earth I think for celiacs. At every place in every park, you are basically able to get gluten free food. Either pizzas or hamburgers and hot dogs, they have rolls that are gluten free too. If you run into any problems at any place, just ask for the manager. They seem to be always knowledgable about celiacs. They have to be on all their food for all kinds of allergies! The one place that the cashier was rather rude to me about it, I went to guest relations about it, my son ate for free, they offered to feed me and my entire family for free.
It was great. You can order a cake from the Grand Floridian, the Polyenisan or any resort that has their own bakery on site and they will deliver it to where you designate.
We didnt stay on site as we bought a vacation home down there and that didnt seem to matter , they will still make the cake!
Have a great trip. You will be in celiac heaven!!
Thats great to know about the cakes I had no idea! We love Disney! We were just there in April and everyone was fantastic about my eating! I can't wait to eat good and safe!

We are going to Disney for a family trip and I want to make sure I have all my bases covered. Am I right that Immodum caplets, Gas-X and advil are gluten-free. I am a little nervous about the plane ride due to off and on weird stomach issues, sometimes you just can't conrol when you have to go!
Thanks for the help!

This is incorrect. EE *is* by nature, a patchy disease. You're right in saying that you either have it or don't. Often you can have it, but the biopsy won't show it *if* the biopsy wasn't taken where there are eosinophils. The old standard was 20 eosinophils per high power field. But, it's also determined by what the eosinophils are doing (clustered, degranulated, etc.). A good pathologist, who is up on all the current research, should be able to determine this .
Thank you! I finally got answeres from the GI specialist today. From what I was told that in my sons case he has an abundance of "eos" in his esaphagus and they were patchy through out. She said that either he has a minor case of EE or they caught it in the beginning stages and is going to progress if we don't find the allergen. I was also told that in some cases they can't find the actual allergen that causes it, that worries me a little. His reflux is constant now it happens with everything he eats. They are supposed to call me in the AM and let me know if they will be changing him from the prevacid.
-
So my son had his allergy appt. today and was tested for a bunch of foods doing the scratch test all of which came back negative, next step is in two weeks he will have the patch tests done and see what happens. While we were in the allergist office his GI specialist( the nurse in the office) returned my call and said that he does have EE but only in patches so its not 100% solid that he has it because his was in patches verses the esophugus bieng coated. I thought it was you either do or you don't, so iam not understanding that. I had to tell them that I would call them back to clarify that and some other stuff with them but of course they are already gone for the day! Anyway it is my understanding that EE is inflamation triggered by an allergy we are just having trouble finding what allergy.

There are actually 8 major food allergens: soy, milk, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, eggs, wheat.
Secondly, the RAST can test for IGE antibodies for anything that you could possibly be allergic to, not just these 8. They can test from rag weed to coffee.
And they are fairly accurate, more so than the skin prick test. True the only sure test is a double blind challenge, but if you are allergic to anything you are tested for it will show up, at least as a weak elevation in IGE antibodies. Now the tests don't how that accurately how severe the allergy is. How your body reacts to elevated IGEs is sort of individual and relative to the allergic load.
BTW, it does sound like your son has major reflux issues,l which could account for all the symptoms you described there. I hope you are giving him the prevacid, as the GI suggested, and hopefully he improves. Does he have other symptoms of allergy, such as hives or ecema? Stomach pain and bloating?
Sorry, we were told his RAST test tested for the 7 major allergens and that they are not always very acurate, we may have to incorporate the elimination diet and also see an allergist, that was before the test came back negative then we were told to keep on the prevacid which he has now been taking for 2 months and were told we should see results in 2 weeks and so far things are only getting worse. This all took place thru the Celiac research center. when they called and said he was negative and to just keep him on prevacid and call back with details of change i totally took this as a blow off, we are still giving him the prevacid twice daily as told. I contacted his pediatrician when the rash around his mouth wouldn't go away and he also said the RAST testing is not so acurate sometimes it will have to be done a few times, so now we are being sent to an allergist and I will contact the GI specialist tomorrow(which I should have a month and a half ago) and fill them in.I will also find out if the EE is what they told me he had, which will explain the reflux not comming under control with prevacid.
