Hi Deb,
I am still struggling with the Fructose thing. I have been doing a re-integration, which is not going well. I can tolerate some berries but that seems to be it! Real drag. I have not bought that book yet, I am going to have to succumb to buying it online. However, I did check out that Iowa site too, are they not active anymore, are there any other websites that are helpful. Even though I have a celiac nutritionist, I feel a bit out there on my own with DFI. It is starting to feel like food in general it just making me sick.

and look up Dietary Fructose Intolerance on the web in general. They say to do a 4-6 weeks with no fruit, no sugars,limited veggies... I just ended this strict diet. (Pain in the butt, esp since I am a vegatarian.) I have been slowly reintroducing fructose back into my diet, you eat one new fruit every three days and see what happens. However, I am still having problems, but it's unclear if it's the fruit or the probiotics or some other gut thing. I am culturelle. But I am interested in what you all have been taking. I absolutely hate the way the probiotics have been making me feel, I have been on them for a month. However, I am still not right in the gut. It does seem like long-term un diagnoised celiac wreeks havoc in ones body. I also have a bunch other autoimmune issues, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sojrens, Reynauds, and Thyroid disease - which I do eastern and western health care for, thus I am on lots of meds (western). Maybe my meds have also wrecked my stomach!!!

I have been on the fructose free diet, along with gluten-free and lactose free, for the recommended 6 weeks (Of course life long for gluten-free and who knows for lactose). Now I am reintroducing fruit. I have been doing one fruit every three days for two weeks. Now I am lifting the bar some in general. I ate cantalope today (my first non-berry fruit) I'm not sure if it's ok yet, my gut feels funny but no diarreha. However, I am really, really bloated from the probiotics that I am also taking to clear up the leaky gut. Sometimes when I eat I still can feel my gut or small intestines not being happy. Anyone do the re-introducing of fruits, how do you know if you are ok? Also, any experieince with probiotics? I am soooo sick of this whiole thing, though I know eventually I will feel better. But the cooking etc is just a lot. I work full-time, have two kids and on and on.

I am going to try that book. I am now in the re-integration stage. Who knows though. I am also taking major probiotics per my nutritionist, so I am really bloated all the time. The fruit re0integration seems to be going well, but I wish I could see my nutritionist more often to get a sense of what is what. -Suzi

Anyone here been dx with lactose and fructose intolerance, with being celiac?? I just was, I am told that you can overcome the these, of course not celiac, but the diet is rough. Looking for any help. I am veggie too, but willing to compromise... I think.

I am six months diagnosised with celiac, and lactose free, now I was diagnosised with fructose intolerance too. Anyone else have this too? Any recipe resources? Mostly, I read that this may be a temporary condition for celiacs. That once you do the strict diet, you can add fructose laden foods (like fruit) back into your diet. Do you know if this is true?

Yes, there is a Fructose Breath test. It's very similiar to the lactose breath test. They tell you right away. In Boston (where I live), they just started doing the test 6 months ago. However, for celiacs, it can be transitional once your gut is healed you are supposed to be able to eat most fructose again, though nothing too preservative filled. I may have already posted this - so sorry for the repeat..

This website is someewhat helpful, but not the end all be all. Most nuts have fructose except pistachio, most beans exp for garbanzo, whole soy, lentil, mung and lima. Most veggies have some, so you are supposed to only have a few servings per week. Umm... what else oh spices, no garlic, onion or dill too. And no corn or corn starch, though polenta is allowed.
I too go back and forth with the bloating and an unhappy gut. I am going to go back on the fructose free diet again.

Oh and if possible use some dextrose on your food, especially on veggies. Dextrose helps to breakdown fructose.
