Silly.....serious questiosn are fine. we are all in this together.
Prozac - I was on it two different times, for not more than one week each - - was literally crawling out of my skin and thought I might die, or at least kill many people before I did
......BUT BUT BUT - - you must know that all drugs affect people VERY differently. I have been on other SSRI's and had no reaction of that sort at all. It is trial and error - - I know or have known many people who've been on prozac and it worked quite well, in fact I' ve not known any other person who reacted the way I did to prozac.
don't be robbed of your joy, Cecile.....try the Prozac, if it works, HOORAY, you may only need to be on it for a while, or forever, who cares, and it if doesn't work, try something else......
WHY AM I SO HUNGRY ALL THE TIME NOW????????????
Susie, I echo everything you said about Prozac!
Don't know why you're hungry all the time. Maybe you're getting better???
I love you dearly also!
Cissie
And in pops Cissie!! well welcome back, crazy lady!!!!!!Look who's calling people crazy, Esteemed Goofiness!
I emailed you earlier today. Did it get lost in the ether again?
-
Sorry to add another serious question... but has anyone ever taken Prozac? And what were your expierences?
One of my sisters has taken it for years, with remarkably good results. I just emailed you, so read and heed!!! I love you dearly!
Cissie

Guess what! I took my socks off, and no more pings!
Good night all! I love you!
Cissie

OMG don't you ever call me Clairol free again... but that was so sweet of you to remember my hallucinations and thank you for the flowers.
I am just so stuned at the crop circles.... this has got me in a tizzy... I wonder what Rembrant would do?
I'm sure he would consult Modigliani.
Shhhhh. Listen. Do y'all hear those pings?
-
Jim? Jim? Who IS this Jim we speak of?? Could it be Jim Cantore? Celia is going to get arrested for stalking that poor man.
Sponges, twinkies, what the heck is the difference? You are both nuts.
btw, I emailed Jim--I have crop circles in my backyard.
I beg your pahdon!!! To whom are you speaking? Granted, Madame Celia is a bit of a nutcase; I, however, am considered quite crazy in all but the best of society!
WHAT? CROP CIRCLES? Celia must leave poor Jim alone so he can investigate immediately!!! Although, on second thought ..... have you been drinking faucet water again? I have it from an unimpeachable source that faucet water causes hallucinations in Clairol-free women.
Twinkies are gluten... omg no wonder Robbin has crop circles!
Maybe Jim can use some sun screen... what will be the UV digits tonight?
Robbin you really must get a grip...
Oh, yes, always thinking of Jim, Jim, Jim! Since you asked, the digits will be in the high 100's until midnight, at which time they will plummet to 120.
-
If Jim had bothered to ask I would have told him. The twinkies were a lure for your dadgoned lizard! I didn't just send sympathies, my dear; I acted! It's not my fault that he turned green! It would never have happened if he had come out of his hidey hole and eaten the darn twinkies.
Yes, the sponge situation seems to be unretro and protonic at the moment, not to mention reciprocitous. However, we must be patient; Jim has promised to stay out of the sun this evening and rectify the error.
-
Listen here, Miss Imbe-CELE! My slippers are black, not blue! How many times do I have to tell you that! I slink around the house every night in my black negligee and sexy black slippers. Only Aaron knows that I wear long woolen underwear beneath all that glamour, and he's not telling! I'm trying to seduce him away from the Commie News Network, which, as everyone knows, was conceived by Red Ted's celiac-maddened brain.
The sponges you sent me arrived today, but unfortunately I can't use them, as they are soaked with pure, clean, unadulterated, spring water, and are, therefore, rendered useless for cleaning butts and toilets. I have emailed a duplicate complaint to Jim, with the suggestion that you all check the water content of the sponges before shipping them to Robbin's bottom-impaired husband.
Sincerely yours,
Madame Cissie

Of course, Steve, all that assuming that those people were really, truly, planning on blowing up planes with stuff they would potentially smuggle on board in water bottles (or similar small containers containing liquid), which it appears, there is very little evidence for.
So ... we've gone from water to terrorists. If I can't take my own water aboard a plane, I just won't fly. No problem; it's such a tiny sacrifice. I know, however, that many people don't have that option. Is it possible to call ahead of time, and request a specific water for someone on a restricted diet? I really don't know. Any thoughts on that?
Ursula, this is not a good day, September 11, 2006, to suggest to Americans that the people arrested for plotting to blow up planes might really be innocent, misunderstood, little darlings. Perhaps you should gather information from sources other than "Hate-America/Hate-Democracies" web sites. There are people out there, people with Dark Ages mentalities, who want to wipe us from the face of the earth.
September 11, 2001
Let us never forget.
God bless The United States of America.

Just a drive-by.
I'm finding it difficult to understand what some of y'all are saying about the connection between gluten intolerance/celiac disease and bipolar disorder. Anyone care to enlighten me? Is this just a theory, or has it been scientifically proved? What about all the people who are bipolar and don't have celiac?
I believe it could be very dangerous to go on a gluten-free diet, and at the same time quit taking meds for a brain chemistry problem like bipolar disorder, or panic attacks. Look at what folllowing such bad advice, without consulting a doctor, has done to our Susan!
Darlin' Susie, feed your brain by taking your meds; and please consider joining the Daily Strength forum, where you would have access to doctors. Love you!

Yes, check into b12 Carla.
I was given b12 by the holostic type doctor I went to based on my hair samples. They are injection. He gave me an injection, then I went about a month later and asked my doctor to test the blood levels. They came back normal (to them), but I don't know what the numbers were. I only had the one injection but I don't have the damage to my intestines.
ANDREA, you don't have to have celiac disease or gluten intolerance to have a B-12 deficiency. It's an autoimmune disease, separate from any other autoimmune disease. Maybe you should get re-tested. If you have it, you have to take shots the rest of your life.
Cissie
-
I don't know if he tested B12 or not, but I had read on this board that it can help, I also have read that you can't really overdose, so I started taking sublingual B12 a few days ago to see if it made a difference. So far nothing.
I like hearing thoughts though because I highly doubt that a doctor will be able to figure this out for me. If he does, it will be a first for me ever.
CARLA, please DO get a B-12 test! If you need B-12, you probably would need a lot more than what you've been taking sublingually, at least at first. Cecile was so low on B-12 that she had to have a shot every day for a while, to get her built up. So did my sister. Any doctor can help you with this - he doesn't have to be intelligent!!!

Good morning, all! I haven't been on since Friday afternoon, so I'm too far behind to try to catch up.
LEAH, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I know there's nothing I can say right now to ease the sadness and aching, but I send you prayers, love, and hugs. My mother used to quote something that perhaps, when your grief is not so raw, you'll think of, and smile. "God gave us memory, that we might have roses in December."

Who are these two Vikings? (End of your first quote.)
Cissie here. I'll give you a short answer, deb, and leave it to gfp to elaborate, if he wants to. Battle of Hastings, 1066 - William of Normandy defeated King Harold of England. This was one of history's most important dates, according to my high school history teacher. It's right up there with 1215, when King John signed the Magna Carta. I graduated from high school in 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, and I still remember those historic dates in the history of English speaking people.
Cissie: Hi
Other than vodka with cream, what is a person who is a White Russian?
Deb
Hi, Deb!
Very brief synopsis: White Russia/Belorussia/Lithuania - a principality in the northwest, next to Poland on a map - under Russian control at time of the Socialist Revolution (1917) against the Tzar and his government; the Revolution was almost immediately afterward taken over by the radical Bolsheviks (Marxists/Communists). A counterrevolutionary movement arose, in 1918, to attempt to overthrow the Communist government; and the Russian Civil War began, lasting for years. For various, somewhat vague reasons, this counterrevolutionary army was called the White Army. It was composed of cossacks, army officers, the bourgeoisie, educated young men, and members of various political parties. Most intellectuals either joined the White Army, or gave it their support; thus they were called White Russians. (Think "Doctor Zhivago") The Red Army prevailed, as we well know, and wealthy, well-educated White Russians fled, mostly to Paris. French was the language of the Royal Court of Russia, and of all educated people. The White Russian father of my friend in Paris was definitely an intellectual.
As I said, this is a very brief synopsis. I hope it made sense.
Have a lovely weekend!

Hey Matilda, Welcome to Tazorac Land, lol. Nice to see another kitty too! Penguin -that avatar is a good combination. A skunk tail would look cute on there too.
I just read a very interesting article in Redbook (Sept. 06-current issue) on hormones. One thing that stuck out for me was the section on IBS -I didn't know that 95% of serotonin we produce in our bodies is made in the intestines!! This really explains why so many of us have problems with depression AND to complicate things even more, estrogen can cause irritable bowel flare-ups, so it is reasonable to assume that any bowel problem will cause chaos in our hormones/chemical balance. This is even more reason to "fight the good fight" for our health, ladies.
Susan & Leah, yes, I understand the creativity vs. depression "syndrome" -I can't seem to get started on a creative project when I am really depressed-if I do press on and write or sketch or whatever, though it sometimes comes out as a really wonderful piece and it is through the whole process that I can sometimes get out of the pit. And it IS a pit and very hard to drag out of - thank you all for being here-when I check in here, I get a smile and a sense of community that is hard out in the world with everyone so busy doing their own thing. Susan, you are not alone and don't think about the future or the past too much-focus on each moment-I am trying really hard to do that-(plus, pulling weeds, digging flower beds, & cleaning till exhausted helps, as you found with your yard work, doesn't it give a great sense of accomplishment?!) You should be proud of how far you have come and NEVER ashamed about medication. If you need it, take it. You would take your insulin shots if you were diabetic, right? I think of you all and you are in my prayers-
Armetta & Lynne-Having a blast, I hope and winning some $$.
Celia-so glad you "resurrected" this thread, lol. You are a sunshine girl
Evie--Do you watch "Simply Quilts" with Alex Anderson on HGTV?!! It is one of my favorite morning routine shows. I do not quilt as yet, but I have quilting books and am planning on trying it one of these days. I need to get one of those large magnifier glasses on a stand I saw a woman using on needlework -looks like just the ticket. I gained some far vision-but lost my near vision, so now I use a small magnifing glass for crafts and bifocals which I wear on my chain, or on the top of my head which I forget a lot that they are up there and search the house, lol
CISSIE WHERE ARE YOU ??? I picture eighteen little grandchildren and cissie making mud pies or painting their faces
We miss you, girlfriend
Take care All !!! love & joy
HERE I AM, ROBBIN! I've been dealing with stuff not connected to gluten. One thing is that I think I have pernicious anemia. Over the last three or four years I've gradually lost my energy, motivation, etc., and I sleep way too much! Then another problem cropped up that really scared me; sometimes my throat closes up and I can't swallow! Most of the time it happens when I take a calcium tablet - or try to - and I must take calcium! A few days ago a light bulb clicked on in my tired brain: Hey! My sister A. had the same symptoms, plus neurological problems, and discovered she has PA. She'll be getting B-12 shots the rest of her life. (My family is chock-full of auto-immune diseases!) I talked to Cecile about all this, and she thinks I could very well be right about the PA, so I have a doctor's appointment Tuesday to get tested.
Another problem I'm dealing with is GERD. I was taking Zantac twice a day, but stopped a couple of weeks ago as a test to see if I really need it. Evidently I DO, because the severe chest pain came back. Sometimes I do the dumbest things!!!
Sometimes? Hah!
Then, on top of everything else, my dumb computer started freezing up on me! I spent half the day (yesterday) trying to fix it, but it would have helped if I'd known what I was doing!
Late last night, Dumb Dodo The Computer started behaving herself, but alas and alack! She's back to her old tricks today. Guess I'll have to call on my cousin for help. He's the one who insisted that I buy a Mac in the first place. It's all his fault!
Has your eye surgeon done anything different for your eyes recently? I'm still worrying about your eyesight! My new lenses (from cataract surgery) totally corrected my astigmatism and far vision, but I still have to use strong reading glasses. It has to do with age and the inevitable rigidity of a muscle. I got some cute reading specs, that I wear halfway down on my nose. The wonderful thing about wearing them is that they hide the bags under my eyes!!!
I love it!!!
I wonder if Redbook has a website that would allow me to read the article you were talking about. I remember that, waaay back in the omg thread, Cecile posted some good information about hormones, but I'm not going to try to find it!
Something about why women can't drink as much as men. Some people pooh-poohed something she had said (?), so she posted the scientific stuff about hormones and drinking. Maybe she'll read this, and then post the website. Cecile, are you there?
Amen on your medication comment, Robbin!!! If you need it, take it!!!
Gotta run an errand, so must close.
Love, hugs, and prayers to all!
Cissie
Ooops! I just noticed Cecile's comment about hormones. That's what I get for premature posting!

Hi, gfp!
Very interesting concept! Have you read Arthur Koestler"s controversial but thought-provoking "The Thirteenth Tribe"? From the jacket: ". . . traces the history of the ancient Khazar Empire, a major but almost forgotten power in Eastern Europe, which in the Dark Ages became converted to Judaism. . . . ." Koestler provides extensive References and Bibliography sections. I don't know for sure, but imagine it's way out of print. I bought my hardback copy in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
I don't "get" Kafka, but maybe I'll try "Kafka for Beginners."
Just as an aside: During the Medieval Warm Period, farmers in Scandinavia were able to grow wheat at much more northern latitudes, and they grew oats at latitudes more northern still. About those Vikings in the Greenland settlement: Perhaps they would have survived, even after the seas froze and cut them off from the rest of the world during the onset of the Little Ice Age, were it not for the rigid mindset of their religion. They doomed their entire colony to death because they refused to associate with the "skralings" - the so-called heathen savages, whose survival skills in that frigid climate could have saved the Norse.
I have a friend in Paris whose parents were White Russians, who fled to Paris to escape the Bolsheviks. Her father, Sasha, was still alive when I met her, so I got to know him also. Sasha was fluent in 5 (or 7 - can't remember which) languages, and I drooled over his library! He would buy a book in all the languages of which he had command (provided that the book was available in those languages), because, as he explained, each language had its own nuances, and by putting them all together he got a complete picture of the author's intent.
I've enjoyed reading your perspective on the widespread prevalence of the celiac gene in Europe.
Cissie
(Definitely in the Non-NT category!

Cissie,
I see by your sig that you are also soy intolerant. Is that something you knew before the test?
Andrea, I had no idea before the test! It explains a lot about problems with d, when I couldn't pinpoint the cause. I've known for years about msg, but until I came to celiac.com, didn't know about the hidden msg. I've always read ingredient lists on foods, and thought I was so smart! Hah!!!
I even thought I had become lactose intolerant, but couldn't understand why I only had d after eating ice cream, but not after drinking a glass of milk. I was always picky about my ice cream - only "natural" ingredients would do for me. Double Hah!!! According to Entero Lab, I don't have a lactose/casein problem, so I'm happily eating Haagen-Dazs ice cream, and hoping to gain some weight.
After I learned about hidden msg, and went on a gluten-free diet, but before Entero Lab test results, I had infrequent bouts of d, and now I know why. Soy!!! Who woulda thunk it!!!

Have to make a quick post because my son is still working...
Okay... my doctor called this morning.. the minute I picked up the phone I started crying and after about 5 minutes of telling her all my fears in between sobs... I finally said, "I think I'm having a panic attack.".... she burst out laughing
When I was listening to her laugh I felt my whole body relax... thank God my doctor has this kind of personality.
Anyway... here's what she said..
She's not too worried about the water notice but she said don't ever drink tap water. She said she doesn't think the coffee or anything I did to myself caused this.... altho all the caffein probably contributed to my anxiety. And that I'm doing really good with my diet.
She called in Prevacid for me to take for a couple of weeks... and she gave me the liquid cuz I have trouble swallowing sometimes... just picked it up and drank it... you have to mix it with water but it really doesn't disolve totally.. it has little beads.. it was wierd but it was really easy to take.
She also said to take my Xanax for a couple days.. that it's okay if I need it now and then... I was just so proud of myself because I haven't taken it in a long time.
She said just be on "poop patrol".. her words... this weekend and see if it improves and she'll call me Monday.
I'm sorry if I made anyone worry.. I really shouldn't post when I feel like that. I promise never to do it again. Am going to try and get some sleep.
I love you all
Cecile, you should absolutely post when you feel like that!!! This is a SUPPORT forum, you silly girl, and we're here to support you with love and hugs and prayers. I'm so glad your wonderful doctor put your mind at ease! Hope you get some much-needed sleep, darlin'.

Hi All! Finally starting to feel human again. Getting knocked down so hard has shown me how far I had come. For anyone that goes through a bad glutening-Immodium is ok when you need to control the D-but I think it just prolongs the agony and the other symptoms. Maybe that is just me, though.
Celia-That is crazy about the water-wow, I am scared for you as well. You are in my prayers. I haven't been able to catch up on all of the threads, but Karen I did read about your driving yourself to and from the hospital for the scope and I am amazed at the strength you have. Pure strength of spirit must be what keeps you going. I hope they can finally get something to help you. You have been through enough.
Evie, What?! You're down too? My prayer list is growing daily. Your picture is adorable with you hard at work on your computer
.
Judy, You are so special and caring and thank you for the kind words and encouragement. What would we ever do without you here, I don't think it would be the same -you bring a warmth like a candle.
Cissie, I thought of your hubby yesterday, lol. My hubby was daring to consider wearing a royal blue shirt with some greenish - brown pants. Needless to say, my brain-fog was not THAT severe and I nicely snatched the pants from his hands and put them in the "lawn-mowing only" drawer.
Susie-dingo-Thank you for being you. DO NOT CHANGE!!! Kiss the dingobabies for me!
Oh, Robbin! I was so happy to see your post! I've been worried about you, because you hadn't posted in a couple of days. I was about to PM you, but thought I'd do one last check of the forum first.
Our hubbies are so alike! When the occasion calls for it, dh submits to wearing a tie, but it's always an OLD tie. He won't wear new ones; just puts them in a drawer to save for .... ???
I meant to comment on something you wrote some time ago about your dh and his 1970's hi fi/stereo. My hubby's hi fi is from the 1960's, or thereabout. It's huge and ugly, and he won't let me get rid of it!!! It's not like he ever plays any of his old records! He actually thinks the hi fi, as well as the records, are heirlooms, and worth a lot of money!!!
Evie, I'm glad you're feeling better today!
Karen, you poor girl, is the ulcer medicine an antibiotic? Will it have a good effect on your collagenous colitis, or is that too much to ask for?
Susan, is your company still there? When are you going to tackle the floors? Staining the concrete, I think you said.
Guess we're all on pins and needles, waiting to hear from Celia. Lord have mercy, I hope she doesn't have to go to the hospital!!!

Hi everyone!
Having a bit of a "melt down" as Dingo describes it... all this time I've been thinking I'm getting cced within my house, cuz the kids are here and yadda yadda... been having much pain... and this morning black... yep black you know what... so that means there's bleeding.
Then my neighbor asked if we got the water notice... WHAT?... what water notice?... this notice, which I NEVER saw was delivered to my whole area... says they've found coliform bacteria... it says no need to boil, should be okay.... except... EXCEPT... for young children, the elderly and people with HEALTH PROBLEMS and these people should contact their doctor... this notice was sent out 3 days ago.
Patti.... I should have done the water thing with you... I am so stupid.
Left a message at my doctors office... they are closed right now... so I won't hear from them until tomorrow.
This is just unbelievable! On top of getting cced, now you have to deal with bacteria!!! Have you found out what coliform bacteria is? If it ain't one thing, it's another!
Have you ever had the black stuff before? Scary!
Cissie
Edit: Love your new picture! You are a beautiful woman!!!

MEN!!! Their minds just don't work like ours. Mouse, my husband has always confused my April birthday with that of his first wife's April birthday!
They're only one day apart. He even had my birthday wrong on our first joint tax returns, so every year, for 30 years now, I remind him - just in case! I've always thought the birthday thing was funny!
For some reason he always remembers our wedding anniversary; I'm the one who sometimes forgets it, and that hurts his feelings.
For my birthday and Christmas, I just go out and charge something expensive for myself, and tell him, "Look what you got me, honey!"
Susan, I'm glad you're family problem got worked out. I missed your cheerful goofiness!
Cecile, thank God THE BIRD is back!
Good night to all.

HA... isn't that the truth!
Funny thing is the gluten free food is icky...
So I just buy brown rice flour and make some of my own things. Most of the time I just eat without any bread stuff, just the plain old food.
There's storms brewing around here today, plus a tropical system forming in the Atlantic... I think that's why I'm a bit down today. The weather affects me badly... makes my body hurt... I don't think I'll EVER figure that one out..
Cecile, I've never cared for bread, so I don't miss it. But DH is a bread addict!!! Since he's full-blooded Italian, he was very interested when I told him about the prevalence of celiac disease in Italy. He's trying to go gluten-free now, but the only gluten-free bread he likes is rye. I ordered it from the gluten-free bakery online.
I'm so sorry you're hurting. Haven't checked the weather channel today, but I hope your weather clears up tomorrow. Can't stand it when you're in pain!
-
I can't believe after all of the "mirror" mentioning that you didn't say "NO magnification mirrors". Now THOSE things are evil....show every pore, crevice and wrinkle....
-Jessica
HORRORS!!!!! I forgot about those evil things!!! Don't have one. Ain't gonna get one. Now I'll have nightmares!!!
-
Carla, Armetta, I'm always available to give helpful advice on True Life.
Cecile, you're as crazy as I am.
And is Dances with Rivers still in that garden? She will need coffee for her aches and pains tonight. Or . . . a nice box of frozen spinach?
Good night and pleasant dreams to all.
Cissie
Let's see, must address said instructions:1. If there's a large mirror in your bathroom, never look into it when you're just stepping out of the shower! I haven't looked at my naked body in fifteen years.
Check ... once glanced back when I was stepping in and frightened myself and the dog after I screamed.
2. Never look at yourself in the full-length mirrors in dressings rooms until you are fully clothed. Even then, do not look at your face under those flourescent lights.
Check.... those rooms are pure evil
3. Remember that all overhead lighting is your enemy. Remodel your bathroom to exclude overhead lights; instead install soft lighting on both sides of your mirror.
Check.... this again is why I am angry at Thomas Edison... we should have stayed with candles.
4. Put on your makeup in this soft light; go out and have a good time; and never look at your face in another mirror until you get home.
Check.... once glanced in a mirror at the mall not knowing I was looking at myself and was thinking... good googly moogly she needs some make-up.

Well, thank God! What a relief! I thought you were depressed, you silly girl; didn't know you were thinking about your bones!
Fosamax is what I take for osteoporosis, plus vitamin D. I've never heard that prozac could help; must be something new.
I won't yell at you about cutting the lexapro dose in half, considering the circumstances. Maybe you could get it cheaper in Canada. I don't know how that works, but I assume it isn't too difficult a process, since a lot of people do it.
Love you much!
