Hi everyone, I have had bowel trouble for about 12 years. It first started with a case of acute diarrhea during jogging. After that the main complaints are bloating and flatulence/burping. It is worse after meals. I had acute diarrhea on a few occasions after eating very buttery/oily food. Twelve years ago my general doctor diagnosed it as IBS (after not founding anything specific). Recently I have revisited the problem in the hope to solve it as it is something I can live with but it still affects your life quite a bit. So I went to a gastro-enterologist. First I had a breath test for lactose which was negative. Then I was checked for celiac disease: As far as I know to diagnose celiac disease you do blood test which give you an indication. This then needs to be confirmed by an endoscopic biopsy. My blood test came back with the following results: Deamidated Gliadin Antibody was positive (6.2 kU/L range 0-3.9) Transglutaminase (IgA) was negative (0.6 kUA/L range < 8.0) I read that the transglutaminase test is more reliable, but we still did the endoscopic biopsy which came out negative. Then a week after telling me I do not have celiac disease because of the biopsy my gastro-enterologist emails me writing; "the lab antibody test for gluten is positive so your condition seems celiac disease". Of course I was surprised as I thought the biopsy should have been the gold standard (and the antibody test was quite uncertain). I asked her, but unfortunately I did not get a reply anymore. So my first question is if I am correct in my conclusion that it is highly unlikely that I have celiac disease? I do have the feeling I react to some products that contain gluten (croissant/pizza/cake/pasta/soy sauce), but others not (e.g. bread).I have tried going gluten free for a week, but there was no impact. I thought that the issue might be fat content as at least croissant/pizza/cake have a higher fat content than bread, so I tried a low fat diet for about a week, but also that did not improve my symptoms. For completeness other deviating blood values are: Bilirubine indirect (1.48 mg/dL range 0-1.10) This is due to a biliary cyste. Cholestrol LDL (185 mg/dL range < 115) Ferritine (378 ug/L range 20-250) Vitamine D (11.2 ng/mL range 30-100) So if my condition is not celiac disease all ideas and advise of what it could be are welcome. Thank you all in advance, Steve

Hi! So I went to a GI doctor due to having terrible digestive issues, bloating, and acid reflux. I got a celiac blood panel test done and only one part came back positive, the Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG. my doctor then told me that an endoscopy needs to be performed next so i got one done. (Both blood test and endoscopy were performed while i was eating gluten) The biopsy results were “ increased intraepithelial lymphocytes with normal villous structure”. I met with my doctor and she stated with the blood results combined with the biopsy results that it was celiac disease. she told me to go gluten-free and come back in two months to get another blood test. so I went gluten free and it’s been one month since, and I have seen a big difference in symptoms, with me almost having no digestive issues now. i’m just confused because I’m trying to understand the results more and I looked stuff up and I’m reading stuff about latent Celiac, only gluten intolerant, etc. i’m just questioning it because I have no intestinal damage, but I do know that not every part of the intestines can be biopsied to see. and the only one positive part blood test is confusing to me, because some sources say only one antibody needs to be positive and some don’t. I don’t want to be diagnosed celiac if I don’t have it, but on the other hand I do want to be diagnosed if I do have it because I don’t want to make it worse if i don’t do gluten free. obviously I trust my doctor and she has been really great at listening to me, and i’m going to meet with her soon to ask for clarification. I’m not asking for a diagnosis, but I’m just trying to see if anybody else has had the same experience or results? Or if anybody can help explain the results more? I know I’m probably overthinking it😅

Tests: (1) TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE ANTIBODY, IGG,IGA (11073) TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE AB, IGG <1.0 U/mL TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE AB, IGA <1.0 U/mL Tests: (2) IMMUNOGLOBULIN A (539) IMMUNOGLOBULIN A 281 mg/dL Tests: (3) ENDOMYSIAL ANTIBODY SCR (IGA) W/REFL TO TITER (15064) ENDOMYSIAL ANTIBODY SCR (IGA) W/REFL TO TITER NEGATIVE NEGATIVE I understand it’s a negative test and it’s not diagnostic with just this test alone but I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight into the numbers and what they mean? I have had all of the symptoms of celiac for several years now including DH.

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and I signed up because I'm currently in the process to get testing done to see if I have celiac disease or not. I pretty much have all the symptoms and it has gotten fairly bad and it's interfering with my life and getting university school work done is a chore. The bloating, abdominal cramps I can handle, but can't handle the nausea or the constant feeling like I have to throw up (dry heaving all the time), extreme exhaustion either. I dry heave at really horrible smells automatically too. Now the extreme exhaustion is starting to interfere with my daily life. I am seeing my doctor and we did the first easy blood test, which was the TTG-igA and the total TTG serum first. I accidently took it a week later which probably was a stupid idea as I have had gluten in my system. Subconsciously I didn't take gluten or ate it a day before. The TTG-igA was 0.5 u/L and total TTG serum was normal & negative. I tried going off gluten two days before and felt better, not energy wise but without the achy joint pain, nausea, vomiting feeling. I am also very extremely itchy after I eat gluten too. I am nervous that my doctor will say you don't have celiac disease and say we won't be needing to do any other testing for it. As he said to diagnose Celiac disease would be easy. Though from reading on this forum before and other celiac disease association websites that is not the case as their could be false negatives (I think that is my case). Should I ask for more testing? As I still have every symptom. Plus I have rashes all over my body too which makes me think Celiac. Every other autoimmune disorder has every symptom like Celiac too. So my plan is too do the testing for Celiac and goo from there. Thank you in advance for the feedback,

Hello! I was hoping someone would be able to explain a little more to me about the recent blood results I have received. Long story short, I am a female in my mid twenties, I lost 30 pounds in the span of three months with no explanation (5'6" 128lbs in February of 2020, down to 98lbs in April of 2020). I have since gained a few pounds over the last year, but not much, I now rest around 101/102lbs. I was tiny before, and now I am extremely underweight. I am eating normally and have been, no changes in exercise, no explanation. I noticed I started having typical GI issues related to Celiac, went to four different doctors who kept telling me I had an eating disorder (which I am eating the exact same as I always have and have not changed any exercise patterns) which was very frustrating because I knew something was wrong, but no one was taking me seriously. Finally one doctor decided to test me for Celiac and we got a positive result back on one of the tests and I now have to get an EGD and colonoscopy done (they want to look for multiple things at the same time for a biopsy from what I understand). However, no one has really explained anything to me so I have been trying to do my own research. (They tested me for other things such as diabetes, thyroid, etc. and nothing was positive except the celiac panel). These were the tests run and the results (picture of test and result numbers listed below): Antigliadin Abs, IgA; Antigliadin Abs, IgG; t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA; t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG; Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum The only thing that came back positive was the t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG at a score of (7) which is scored as a weak positive. What does this mean? Is this also affected also by the amount of gluten that is consumed (I do not eat much to begin with because I picked up that it was gluten that was giving me issues and I have been reading that you have to eat a good amount of gluten to be able to get a solid positive test). What does it mean that the TTG-IGG came back positive, but the TTG-IGA came back negative? And that none of the other ones came back positive? I've also been reading about sensitivities and specificities of the blood tests, but don't entirely understand what that means if someone can help explain that as well. Thank you all so much ahead of time, I really appreciate your help to help me understand the beginning of this journey!

Hello, I just tested positive for celiac in two different blood panels and have a vitamin A deficiency and was referred for an endoscopy. Does anyone know if false positives are common and do people usually go gluten free as soon as the endoscopy is done? I have a one month wait between the endoscopy and seeing the GI and don't want to be damaging my body more if I have it. Thanks.

Hello, I dont know if this is the correct way to post and get replies I hope it is if not sorry ? I'll start from the beginning a year ago I fell ill and couldnt shake off the nausea I went to the doctor they thought I was bulimic because I'd lost so much weight they did a celiac and hpolyri test they both came back negative so I was diagnosed with ibs and anxiety ? Anyway through the years I kept cutting out gluten on and off but not bothering with cross contamination because it made me feel less nauseous ? But I still had stomach pain ?So about 4 months ago I cut out gluten for good and I thought even though I have bad flares of nausea evey now and again and the fact I can eat in the morning due to nausea I thought I had got on top of my weight but between november and january I lost another 6lbs? I did accidentally eat barley at christmas time I swelled like a balloon but didnt have nausea ? My question is there a chance I could still have celiac even though my blood tests were negative and I have pains even though I'm gluten free? ? Also if I have to start eating gluten again before a biopsy is there a chance my body will react to the gluten quicker than 6 weeks? ? Can celiac cause dark hard stool and constipation as well? ? Thank you

My biopsy showed Villi damage in the small intestine. It was followed up with blood work. My GI was frustrated with me when I started questioning her. She couldn’t even explain the results to me. She just circled positive and left me hanging. Can anybody explain how my results look? Am I definitely positive? Endomysial Antibody Titer 1:80 titer transglutamine AB, IGA >100 U/mL Immunoglobulin A 228 mg/dl
