AJS3849 posted a topic in Gluten-Free RestaurantsI have celiac and have followed a strict gluten-free diet for seven years. Now that we are retired, my husband and I travel a lot and that means dining out a lot. I always inform wait staff of my celiac disease and my need to avoid gluten but still occasionally get glutened and suffer the miserable results. I see ads for enzymes that break down gluten and wonder if they are effective in mitigating the reaction. I understand that they are not designed to allow celiacs to consume gluten freely, but I would like to be able to have an antidote that will at least make the reaction less severe. Has anyone found these to be effective in that way?
I am headed to Branson in July for a family vacation. Does anyone have any recommendations on places to eat? I would love to eat somewhere other than the major chains. I saw that The Pasta House has a gluten-free menu. Has anyone tried their gluten free pasta?
I understand that there are quite a few restaurants that have gluten free menus. My question is, do most of these restaurants prepare the gluten free items to where they will not be cross contaminated? Applebees, Chilis, Red Robin: these are just a few of the places that I know have gluten free menus. Any ideas?
