Savory Foods has really hit a home run with their frozen Gluten-Free Licious Gourmet Herb Pizza Crust. Many pre-made gluten-free pizza crusts tend to lack flavor, and more importantly, they lack the correct texture and "mouth feel." Savory Foods’ pizza crust offers everything you want in an outstanding pizza crust—great texture with just the right chewiness, a perfect blend of spices and seasonings, and most importantly, you can cook it just the way you want—if you like it crispy, just cook it a little longer, if you like it more chewy, just cook it for less time. In my case I followed directions and let it thaw for 30 minutes, then cooked it at 425F for three minutes, then removed it from the oven and added my favorite tomato sauce, cheese and pepperoni, and finished it off in the oven for another 8 minutes—yes, I like my pizza on the chewy side! I love being able to add my favorite toppings to my pizzas, but don't like having to prepare a mix, so this crust offers me the perfect solution for my gluten-free pizza cravings! For lunch today, I had gluten-free spaghetti pasta topped with Dave's Gourmet Hearty Marinara Gluten-Free & Organic Pasta Sauce—and the sauce was definitely hearty! I immediately noticed the large chunks of fresh tasting tomatoes and garlic in the sauce which was balanced perfectly with organic basil and onions. I love that this sauce uses only organic ingredients and real extra virgin olive oil as some pasta sauces use less expensive versions like canola oil. As you can probably guess, Dave's also doesn't use any artificial ingredients, colors, or flavorings. Another plus is that this marinara sauce doesn't taste too salty which is my pet peeve with many pasta sauces (if I want salt I'll add it or use Parmesan, thank you). In fact, this sauce has just the right amount of saltiness which means that the taste of the tomatoes, garlic and basil really come through in every bite. Overall, Dave's Hearty Marinara sauce is an authentic, full bodied, and very rich-flavored marinara sauce that is not only healthy, but tastes great. I would recommend it to anyone—and not just those who are on a gluten-free diet. For more info visit: davesgourmet.com. Review written by Scott Adams.

Celiac.com 01/06/2014 - If you love a good hamburger or hot dog on occasion as I do and you want something more than ketchup and mustard to spice it up, try Herbert's Chow Chow Original Gourmet Relish. Chunks of fresh cabbage and spices create a delicious sauce that is thick and savory. Use this relish as a condiment, as a dip for chips or even as a healthy snack. What other relish does all that? Herbert's Chow Chow has no preservatives and is fat free and is also gluten-free. Once you try it, you may never buy regular relish in the grocery store again.

Celiac.com 10/09/2013 - If you love hot soup on a cold Wintery day, these wonderful gluten-free vegetable soups are a great choice. The Cuban Black Bean Soup has pureed black beans with corn, red peppers, onions, carrots and spices. I thought it would be spicy, but it was mild. High in fiber, this soup would make a great starter for a home-made Mexican Feast. The Butternut Squash & Mushroom is thick and creamy with a beautiful golden color. Put this soup in a dark bowl and you have a chef-inspired dish that will win rave reviews. The Zesty Tomato soup is an interesting combination of tomatoes, jalapeno pepper and ginger. However, I did not realize there were jalapenos in this soup until I looked at the list of ingredients, so the word “zesty” does not imply hot or spicy. The Tuscan Minestrone is a low-calorie soup with tomatoes, spices, and white beans. The broth is light, making it the perfect starter for a bigger meal. The Sicilian Tomato Zucchini Bisque is a delightful blend of zucchini and tomatoes combined in a rich cream sauce. The Sweet Burgundy Onion Soup has a rich, distinctive taste due to the nice combination of burgundy wine and french brandy. Add some mozzarella cheese to the top and voila–you have an onion soup that tastes like home-made. All of these family-style soups are carefully crafted with the finest ingredients. Additionally, the sampler pack provides exceptional variety at a reasonable cost and the glass containers are a classy addition to your pantry (no more worries about contamination from metal cans that are often made of BPA). I highly recommend these delicious soups as part of a meal or as the meal.

The first thing I really appreciated about this cookbook, besides the gorgeous photography, is the introductory section called “Ingredients Unveiled”. Different types of flour, sweeteners, and oils are described and the nutritional benefits of each are also included. I like a cookbook that teaches me about what I am putting into my body, rather than just providing me with a bunch of recipes. Of course there are plenty of great recipes for everything from dips to desserts and they are all easy to make, dairy-free, and kosher. This is a great cookbook for any gluten-free kitchen. This delicious cake gets its moistness from by having just the right amount of sweet butter, cream and milk mixed with pure vanilla beans and extract. The rum flavoring is noticeable, but not overpowering. The cakes are just the right size and make the perfect end to any meal. Each package contains 6 two ounce servings and are vacuum packed for optimum freshness—no refrigeration required. If you haven't had any gluten-free rum cake lately, we definitely recommend you give these a try. For more information, check out their website, and enjoy the music while you are browsing! If you love macaroni and cheese, then you will likely also love risotto. This recipe makes a delicious, creamy risotto that is big on cheese and packs the rich, subtle flavor of mushrooms. It makes a great addition to grilled meat, or all by itself. Ingredients: 4 cups chicken broth, divided 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided ¾ pound portobello mushrooms, thinly sliced ¾ pound white mushrooms, thinly sliced 2 shallots, diced 1 cup Arborio rice ⅓ cup dry white wine 3 tablespoons finely chopped chives 4 tablespoons butter ⅓ cup freshly grated Romano cheese sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste Directions: In a saucepan, warm the broth over low heat. Warm 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in the mushrooms, and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Remove mushrooms with their liquid, and set aside. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to skillet, and stir in the shallots. Cook 1 minute. Add rice, and stir well to coat with oil, about 2 minutes. When the rice becomes pale and gold in color, add wine, stirring constantly until the wine is fully absorbed. Add ½ cup broth to the rice, and stir until the broth is absorbed. Continue adding broth ½ cup at a time, stirring continuously, until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is al dente, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in mushrooms with their liquid, butter, chives, and parmesan. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Gluten-free food companies are really starting to figure this pasta thing out, but there still aren't many fresh, gourmet-oriented options on the market. Cappello's provides a formidable entry with their almond flour-based gluten-free fettuccine. It's lower on the glycemic index than corn- or rice-based options, and it tastes fantastic. Fettuccine alfredo really has to be one of the top five comfort foods of all time. It's delicious (for obvious reason), but really only done right with fresh pasta and a homemade sauce; if you're going to splurge on calories, make them count! It's notoriously hard to get the gluten-free thing right, but Cappello's nailed it. The texture and consistency of their fettuccine are both spot on, and it tastes just like fresh wheat-based pasta, but with a subtle almond flavor. Long story short, Cappello's gluten-free fettuccine is much better than any gluten-free pasta I've tried, and it's some of the best fettuccine I've tasted, gluten-free or otherwise.
