  1. I have been very sick for over 2 months and have lost over 26 lbs. Haven't been able to eat without getting sick. I have started a gluten free diet and am starting to feel a little better. I had the blood test done for Celiac's and am unable to understand the results. Can someone please help me with this? Is these positive or negative results? My doctor was not able to explain. Thanks in advance.
  2. Let my start by giving a brief summary of what I’ve been diagnosed with. Just over the past year I’ve been diagnosed with Celiac, EOE, lactose intolerance, soy allergy, tree nut allergy. Most recently diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. The Colitis came 8 months after having found out I had celiac. I have never had problems with gluten in my life. Dairy was something I had to eliminate because of the excrutiating stomach pains I would get from it. But I can have gluten any day and not have a problem. I was diagnosed with a biopsy and followed by bloodwork. But who’s to say that dairy wasn’t the cause? I just feel like the GI was very quick to jump on the diagnoses without fully understanding my medical history, prescriptions I’ve took in the past ie long term antibiotic use, accutance, and 7 years of constant NSAID use.
  3. Hello, Around the end of October I was diagnosed with Celiac after the GI doc did an endoscopy and found evidence of flattened villi. So I have been gluten-free since then. However just before Christmas, I had a follow up with the GI dr and he said my biopsies came back negative for Celiac? He said if I haven't felt better I could stop the gluten-free diet. But since signs of improvement don't really show up until about 6 months (is that true?) I've decided to stay gluten-free until April or May just to see. However, a week ago I started feeling really ill whenever I ate. 95% of my meals were not in danger of gluten or CC as I prepared them at home. But then I think I finally realized the common theme with my meals - dairy. The first meal that made me sick had a greek yogurt sauce, a slimfast shake had milk in it, ranch dressing with some buffalo wings, and a corn tortilla quesadilla. Nausea, getting really warm, nearly immediate gastric dumping, etc. I thought I had gotten the The reason I say "I think I finally realized" is because it would be an awful intensely sensitive lactose intolerance - I'm getting a similar yet weaker reaction to < tsp of butter and possibly milk in baked goods. Which might also explain why my probiotics haven't helped ("may contain traces of dairy"). I also can't eat a lot of rice at the moment because it causes diarrhea. Can lactose intolerance really be that severe? Could it be caused by my possible Celiac dx or something else? I had also been dx'd with severe gastritis. The acid reducers have helped with some of those symptoms (abdominal tenderness/cramping). This whole diet change has caused a whole lot of stress and sadness. Rice and cheese were my big staples once gluten was cut out. And now I can't even eat them without distress!
  4. Before I get into the neurological symptoms, let me give you a synopsis of my background and family history. Both my parents smoke and my dad was always a heavy drinker. My mom had GERD / Acid Reflux pretty much her whole life and it should be noted that she's basically 100% Norwegian (I've read that Northern Europeans have GERD and gastrointestinal issues more than anyone else - same with the Irish). My mom was also recently tested positive for Celiac Disease (our diets growing up was filled with wheat products, so connecting the dots here, I think she was being bombarded with gluten and her body couldn't handle it). She would have severe mood swings, especially towards my dad (who is now passed on). Her acid reflux got so bad that she went in for an endoscopy and they told her that she had Barrett's Esophagus. She's still alive to this day though and seems to be holding up reasonably well. My sister also has severe acid reflux and panic attacks. Now to get to my own history. I was born in 1983. As a baby, I had severe eczema, and would rub certain areas of my body (such as my wrists) raw on the carpet, because I was constantly itchy. I would also constantly spit up breast-milk and even the baby formula. My parents had a hard time figuring out what to feed me! We would also drink tons of cow's milk. That finally hit a brick wall around age 25 (in 2008), when I started noticing that if I drank straight cow's milk I would end up with (and still do end up with if I drink it) sulfur burps which taste and smell like rotten eggs. I even tried drinking raw cow's milk one time and the result was the same, I was burping rotten egg smelling burps and would get diarrhea! This is also around the time when I noticed my acid reflux getting worse and worse. In 2009, I started lifting weights again after taking a long break from high school. When I would do any squatting motion exercises such as dead-lifts or squats, I'd almost pass out because I couldn't catch my breath afterwards. I finally went in for an endoscopy and they told me that my esophagus was raw and red. I also should note that I've read getting anesthesia and all the drugs they give you during that time, can cause long-term psychological issues, especially anxiety, which I never really had until after that year. I realized that I couldn't do those squatting exercises or anything that put pressure on the abdomen area, since it would push acid back up into my esophagus. I decided to start lifting weights on an empty stomach and that did work for awhile but I couldn't figure out why my acid reflux was still so bad. Acid shooting back up into the esophagus, is caused by inflammation. This affects the Vagus Nerve (which is the longest cranial nerve). Some of the main functions of the Vagus Nerve include, 1. Breathing 2. Speech 3. Sweating 4. Helping in keeping the larynx open during breathing 5. Monitoring and regulating the heartbeat 6. Informing the brain of the food that is ingested and food that has been digested 7. The Vagus Nerve performs the major function of emptying the gastric region of food Any damage to the vagus nerve causes Gastroparesis which is losing the muscular function in the stomach and intestines. This results in food being emptied slowly, that leads to other problems such as fermentation of food in the stomach and food getting compressed into hard pellets which can cause severe problems if the pellets get stuck in the intestine. Especially in people with diabetes, when sugar levels get high and are not well controlled, it can result in the vagus nerve damage. This can result in anxiety / panic attacks, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), trouble swallowing, chills, asthma-like symptoms, heart palpitations, tingling / numbness in extremities and limbs, blood in the stool, hard of breathing, anxiety attack-like symptoms, canker sores, nightmares (including hypnogogic and hypnopompic auditory / visual hallucinations, such as hearing a gun shot upon waking up, even though no gun was fired), dry mouth, heart attack-like symptoms, and more (I had all these symptoms too btw). I believe that since our bodies are intolerant to wheat and dairy products, it is causing inflammation in the body, which then causes all these other symptoms. So at that point, I began having hallucinations (including hypnopompic and hypnagogic hallucinations). They were mainly auditory hallucinations and some (but fewer) visual hallucinations. They started around 2013, when I got sick with the flu and also had an in-grown toenail (I had to get it cut out by the doctor and it was the worst pain of my life!). I was extremely religious back then (I left my faith last year at end of 2015) and felt like these were omens or signs for some of the things that were deemed ‘sinful’. I then had a breakup with a gluten-free who lived in Montana and the auditory hallucinations continued. I’ve been having them again starting in 2016 after getting sick with a chest respiratory infection (I’m seeing a trend here with getting sick and having these), which I believe were caused by the Autumn Rhinitis / Hay Fever Allergies. I was at the gym around the start of August 2016, and I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath after each set of lifting. I went home and haven’t been back to the gym since. I was having trouble breathing just walking up a flight of stairs, and it was a daily nightmare until I started looking into ways to help solve my issues (which I’ll get into in a minute). I also don’t have a great sleep schedule from working late night shifts, so I’m typically always sleep deprived. I should also mention that I think I have formed P.T.S.D. (PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from watching a music video where it showed a death. The image of the woman dying kept playing in my head (this also happened around August 2016). Then on top of all that, I was lifting weights 2 times a week (full body workouts), doing H.I.I.T. (High Intensity Interval Training) a couple times a week in the morning, AND working night shifts. On top of all that, my dad died last year (October 3, 2015) and within a week afterwards around October 10th, I ended up with appendicitis so I had to get the appendectomy surgery to get my appendix removed. A few weeks later, I walked away from my faith (not due to emotional reasons, but due to extensive research, which was already in the process starting at the beginning of 2015). So I lost my dad, my faith and my appendix within a month's time period. It put a lot of stress on me I think. I’m 33 years old, so still somewhat young, but I think I was pushing my body to the limit, and it’s been affecting my brain chemistry. Not only that, but recently, I put the other dots to the puzzle and found out that I also have gluten intolerance / Celiac / Coeliac, so I’ve stopped eating gluten (and dairy) products. I also have done a few sessions of AAT (Advanced Allergy Therapy), by a doctor named Dr. Jill Cohn in the San Francisco / Berkeley / Oakland Bay Area. You don’t even have to be there in person for her to treat you, she does it all online through a conference call on a site similar to Skype. You can watch testimonials on YouTube as well, and I’m here to tell you that her system did cure me of Ragweed allergies. I now understand that because I was pushing my body to the limit as well as trying to stay 500 calories below maintenance (to cut fat and get shredded), that my body wasn’t getting the proper nutrients and vitamins due to eating wheat and gluten (as well as dairy). This damages the alveoli and villi in the intestinal tract which are crucial for absorbing the nutrients from your food. I also found out that my body reacts poorly to chocolate as well. Chocolate is a 'stimulant' and has been proven to affect the brain the same way that cannabis / marijuana will. This could be some of the problems you all are facing as well. At that point, your body is so run down, that it will start attacking ‘harmless’ invaders, such as ragweed pollen, pet dander or even just simple dust particles, which this process of your body in attack mode, will cause inflammation, hence the reason I was having trouble breathing (my body developed exercise-induced / allergy-induced asthma). Not only that, but when your body is so run down and not getting the proper nutrition, it can cause psychosis and schizophrenic symptoms as well! I started taking a ton of supplements and they’ve helped tremendously. Here are a few to get you started. Try these and eat a balanced diet for a couple months. I’ll bet you start to feel better and the hallucinations diminish. 1. Vitamin D3 (Jarrow Brand 5,000IU – take two to four per day) – This is especially necessary if you live above the 37 degree parallel (latitude) in the Fall and Winter (typically from September to March). The sun only produces Vitamin D3 in our body when it is 50 degrees (altitude not temperature) above the horizon and even during the Spring and Summer, this only occurs from around 10AM in the morning to 2-3PM in the afternoon. So you have only a 4 to 5 hour window in the morning to afternoon when the sun is producing Vitamin D3, which most people aren't really out during those times, because of work schedule. This is why around 75 to 80% of the world population are D3 deficient! A good source of information on this is Dr. John Cannell. Go research how vital and important D3 is for us! You want your ng/ml (nano-grams per milliliter of blood) to be from 50 to 100 (or even slightly over 100 is fine too!). 2. Magnesium (CALM BRAND) – Magnesium is the driver for Vitamin D3. It’s very important and we don’t get enough of it in our diet on average. 3. Vitamin C (take around 2,000mg per day) – Look up Dr. Thomas Levy and Dr. Linus Pauling for good information on this. The Liposomal type of Vitamin C is the best kind! 4. Vitamin K2 (different from Vitamin K1 – Get the Jarrow Brand called Vitamin K-Right) – Millions of people take calcium supplements to maintain healthy bones. Yet few patients or physicians realize that optimizing bone integrity involves more than taking a single mineral supplement. A critical additional component for bone and cardiovascular health is vitamin K2. Recent research has revealed that, without vitamin K2, calcium regulation is disrupted. In fact, low levels of vitamin K2 are associated with an increased risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis. K2 is the gateway that allows calcium to get to your bones. When you take vitamin D3, your body creates more of these vitamin K2-dependent proteins, the proteins that will move the calcium around. They have a lot of potential health benefits. But until the K2 comes in to activate those proteins, those benefits aren't realized. So, really, if you're taking vitamin D, you're creating an increased demand for K2. And vitamin D and K2 work together to strengthen your bones and improve your heart health.For so long, we've been told to take calcium for osteoporosis... and vitamin D3, which we know is helpful. But then, more studies are coming out showing that increased calcium intake is causing more heart attacks and strokes. That created a lot of confusion around whether calcium is safe or not. But that's the wrong question to be asking, because we'll never properly understand the health benefits of calcium or vitamin D3, unless we take into consideration K2. That's what keeps the calcium in its right place. 5. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) Ubiquinol – it’s a substance similar to a vitamin. It is found in every cell of the body. Your body makes CoQ10, and your cells use it to produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It also functions as an antioxidant, which protects the body from damage caused by harmful molecules. (Get the Jarrow Brand – no I don’t work for them, but I’ve heard they are the best in all of these, and it’s what I take). 6. Vitamin B-Right (Jarrow) which has all of the B vitamins in it. Niacin (B3) has proven to be very helpful for those with Schizophrenia and Psychosis. Look up Dr. Abram Hoffer and his research on mental illness and Niacin. Careful with Niacin in huge quantities, as it will cause a 'flushing' effect, but you still want enough to get the benefits. 7. Oxylent (which is one of the best tasting and best multi-vitamins out there in my opinion). It’s got most of all you need in there when included with what I mentioned above. (Those are the main ones above, but here are a few other supplements I take. ChlorOxygen, Serrapeptase {SerraGold Brand}, mushroom supplement called 'Breathe' by New Chapter Life-shield, HealthForce Green Alchemy Protein Powder, HealthForce Vitamineral Green, Probiotics, MSM, Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, local honey, and avocados for potassium, along with getting at least a half gallon of water per day - which I drink at least 32 oz. to 50 oz. of water on an empty stomach every morning). Within a month of taking all this (I started on November 2nd, 2016), I’m now feeling about 95% back to my normal self. The other 5% is caused by my poor sleeping habits, as well as stress. I now realize that these psychological issues were all subconscious from the heavy religious indoctrination. If I had never been introduced to these religious ideas, I’m sure I’d not have these particular religious themed hypnopompic and hypnagogic hallucinations. When it first started, I was seeing visuals such as numbers and objects floating in the air upon waking up, which, they’d disappear within a few seconds. I also hear voices, which would say terrible things, and then the voices would continue in my head as if it were having dialogue with me in my own mind. I would feel like God hated me, due to the content of what was being said. I’m pretty sure I have some sort of religious trauma after leaving my faith and also, after my dad dying within the last year (2015). They actually have a name for this type of PTSD and it’s RTS (Religious Trauma Syndrome). You can find some good material through Dr. Marlene Winell online if you suffer from the religious form of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Anyways, I hope all of this helps someone else who may be going through similar! Just know you’re not alone and it’s more than likely happening because of nutrient deficiency and/or a traumatic experience you suffered as well as your diet if you are gluten intolerant / lactose intolerant. These aren’t devils, demons, hobgoblins or ghouls harassing you, this is all natural phenomena and it can be treated with the right diet, the right supplements and proper sleep! I am still getting cross-contaminated (or there is a cross-reactor food that mimics gluten and/or dairy) somewhere in my diet, so my psychological issues persist, including waking up feeling like something is trying to talk to me in my mind. I am trying to figure that out now. But they also have supplements you can take that will break down gluten if you are accidentally 'glutened.' Here is a study I found from WW2, that correlates to mental disease and gluten / wheat below. "One of the first hints that these circumstances could have implications for the psychological sciences was the observation that, in several countries, hospitalization rates for schizophrenia during World War II dropped in direct proportion to wheat shortages. In the United States, where over that same period the consumption of wheat rose rather than diminished, such rates increased instead (Dohan, 1966a,b). In South Pacific islands with a traditionally low consumption of wheat, schizophrenia was only found in 1 person out of 30,000. When Western grain products were introduced into their society, it dramatically rose to 1 person out of 100! (Dohan et al., 1984)."
  5. I've been lactose intolerant since I was little, and I started taking lactaid pills or generic brand alternatives at age 18. I always did really well with them. Now I feel icky when I eat a lot of dairy. It's like a gluten reaction, but milder. I get pains all over my stomach, and bloating, and my head feels all blah, even when I take enough lactaid or equate dairy digestive enzyme pills. (And I checked to make sure the pills were gluten free.) I've been trying to do some research, but I'm a little confused. I know a lot of people with gluten issues also have dairy issues, including my mom. 1. Is it because leaky gut just causes all kinds of chaos at once? 2. Is it something lactaid pills can't help? Because I only found articles about dairy allergy vs. lactose intolerance, and it doesn't seem like a dairy allergy at all, so one would think lactaid pills would fix the problem, but they're not. 3. Is it because it has to do with what the cows eat? If I had dairy or beef from a grass fed cow, would I feel better than if I had dairy or beef from a grain-fed cow? And If dairy is only a problem because it has gluten in it from what the animal eats, then wouldn't certified gluten free foods with a symbol still be safe because they were tested? (I felt icky after a Freschetta gluten free pizza, which is certified. So if dairy is only an issue because it's glutened, then that would've been picked up when the product was being tested, right?)
  6. Hi guys, I desperately need some help. I am currently studying abroad in Chile and having major digestive issues. I went to the doctor's but unfortunately the healthcare system just does not offer the same quality of care tht it does in the US and they found nothing wrong with me after doing stool\blood samples to eliminate the question of parasites and pregnancy. I will be returning to the states in 3 weeks so I figured I would wait until I got home to go to the doctor's again. I need some help from this community though because I think I may have celiac's and everyone is treating me like I am crazy. It all started a couple of months ago after I underwent a traumatic experience of being robbed. Here are my symptoms... -Lactose Intolerance. I have been lactose intolerant for many years though. -Missed menstural periods.. My period used to be extremely heavy and painful and all of a sudden about 6 months ago it just suddenly stopped. It has come back every now and again randomly. (There is a 0% chance I am pregnant) -Vomiting. Every 2 to 3 weeks or so I wake up at about 7 AM feeling sick to my stomach. I then vomit yellow bile. It seems to be associated when I eat too much fatty food or too much food in general the day before. I always feel better afterwards. -Diarrhea\ constipation. My body keeps on jumping back and forth between having diarrhea and constipation. It is never normal -Fatty stools. My stool always, always floats regardless of what I eat -General discomfort after eating. If I eat anything other than oatmeal and an occassional piece of fruit I feel uncomfortably full and bloated. -Anxiety -Painful lower back -Painful joints in my hands and feet -Fatigue -gas after fatty foods, dairy, legumes, (not necessarily gluten) ***My body doesn't feel any worse after eating gluten products as opposed to fatty products so it makes me wonder if I just have a problem not digesting fat and not gluten?? As you can see these symptoms are random and do not seem to be connected. I feel so hopeless because I feel like I will never get better and people usually kind of imply that I am whining or paranoid when I tell them I feel sick. But my body feels terrible almost all of the time. I would love your suggestions on what I should do. I don´t have a doctor´s appointment for another month and I have a feeling they won't believe me if I say I may have gluten intolerance.

First, I want to say thanks to the veterans of this site who read through thousands of posts from people like me and take the time to respond you have been there for me in rough times before and I'm bummed that I am back with confusion! I have been on a gluten free diet for 4 years and I occasionally have these rapid gastric dumping issues where I eat a meal and then within 30 minutes I am running to the bathroom for an urgent diarrhea evacuation (that's basically vomit because its all the food i just ate completely undigested). I have had no stomach surgeries or gastric bypass- none of that. I also off and on have phases where i am nauseous and nothing sounds good. My metabolism has always been high but i get so frustrated trying to find something that 1. is gluten free, 2. sounds appetizing enough to eat and 3. is semi healthy! I crave stuff like pizza and nachos. Anyways- sometimes just 30-60 minutes after eating i am hungry again! Sick of eating!!! I saw my doctor yesterday and she wants me to try dairy free for 30 days. I die. I eat dairy all the time- greek full fat yogurt and cheese are a staple in my diet for protein and calcium- I don't drink much milk so I don't see how if I eat dairy every day this causes intermittent dumping? I am depressed just thinking about doing DF and gluten-free (sorry to those who already do it I admire your strength) i am having a hard enough time just being gluten-free. SOOO my question is from y'all's experience: Is this gastric dumping/urgent evacuation caused by cross contamination of gluten? ( I have a 16 month old that eats gluten so this may be increasing my exposure) Or do you think this could really be lactose intolerance? Also my immune system has been s$#& this fall and I already had hand foot mouth and now a KILLER cold. That is all- thanks for any input!! -lj
  8. I'm trying to get my Mom help. She has been suffering with chronic diarrhea for several years. She contracted lymes disease and thus was prescribed antibiotics for treatment. Because of this treatment she contracted C Difficile for which she was treated I believe with antibiotics and other medications. Ever since she contracted C Difficile, she is completely intolerant to even the smallest amount of dairy, fruits, and most vegetables. This is on top of the very rigid diet she was following for more than 20 years due to the fact that she has Celiacs Disease. It seems that she is only able to reasonably tolerate meat but even that does not go very well sometimes. It is terrible because she literally can't eat more than a couple of berries or she will have have painful cramps and diarrhea. I feel terrible because this is a daily struggle for her and I am worried about the long term health effects of her nutrient malabsoption. She has gone to many doctors, nutritionists, and specialists but none of them have been able to help her. The most frustrating thing about it is that several of them, including specialists at the Mayo Clinic, have basically disregarded her symptoms and told her that "everyone has a sensitivity to fruit". While that may be true if you overindulge in them, my Mom cannot tolerate even the smallest amounts of pretty much all food now whereas she was fine before the C Difficile. This has made everyday life very uncomfortable and difficult for her. Any help from people who have experienced similar situations or intolerances would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I'm 17 and still undiagnosed. Lately I've been having more of what I think is a sensitivity to dairy than ever. I wasn't always like this. I always avoided milk just because it skeeved me out.. but I always eat yogurt and things of that nature. Lately it's been making my stomach gurgle A LOT. Or at leas that's what I think is making my stomach gurgle. Come to think of it.. I would always feel sick after I had a big mug of hot chocolate.. but that's the only thing that would really do it. In addition to that I believe that I have an egg intolerance. I certainly haven't had this my whole life. I can still eat egg just fine when baked into a cake (well.. now a gluten free cake or something).. It was always fine when egg is just an ingredient. However... probably around 13 years old I became unable to eat egg in scrambled, hard boiled, or mostly egg form without nearly vomiting. I was still able to eat french toast though! I have about a million other food allergies as well and just got diagnosed with more today. I was feeling frustrated with food and didn't want to make anything for myself so I just ate what my mom made for herself.... an omelette. The eggs are totally fresh, we have chickens as pets and for eggs. So it has nothing to do with bad eggs. I figured that I might as well just force myself to eat the omelette but I only got a few bites in before feeling extremely sick to my stomach. Even the smell makes me feel ill. Can celiac cause other food intolerances? Especially to egg and lactose?
  10. Hello everyone, (Warning: Extremely Long Post!) I am brand new to the forum and quite the confusing case. My not feeling well all began in late 2009 with extreme brain fog, mild tummy issues, mainly stomach burning and fatigue. I began breaking out in strange rashes off and on and seemed to be having peculiar reactions to food. At first I was so confused and caught off guard because I suddenly became Lactose Intolerant. I couldn't consume dairy without getting stomach cramps, gas and having to run to the bathroom. I seen a GI Dr. and was tested for Celiac back then (around the end of 2009) but it was negative and I have no idea what tests were run, the numbers or reference ranges that came of that test. Dairy continued to make me sick every time I had it. I appeared to react to everything from Dairy to Doughnuts and for some reason all sweets were making me kind of sick, so I thought maybe it was a sugar problem. I went to an alternative doctor and he suggested I go on a Dairy Free and Gluten Free Diet. Which I did - and I felt a lot better but not 100%. I'll admit, at the time I really didn't know a whole lot about Gluten Free diets and I have no idea if I was totally Gluten Free or not, it was a long time ago and I was a newbie. I indulged in quite a bit of supposedly gluten-free processed foods and even still ate oatmeal until oatmeal seemed to also make me sick. Then I removed oatmeal from my diet and still haven't eaten that to this day, I am too worried about it making me sick again. After eating that way for probably 3-4 months I developed an intestinal blockage in February of 2010. The ER Dr. said my intestine twisted shut on itself. I was referred for a Colonoscopy in March of 2010, they did an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy at the same time but were not looking for signs of Celiac specifically. The results were that I have a hiatal hernia and everything else appeared normal. (no biopsies were taken, as they were not looking for Celiac) I fell off the gluten-free Diet but remained Dairy Free almost entirely. I would occasionally consume a bit of dairy to make sure it still made me sick, which it did. So I ate pretty much everything but Dairy till mid 2011 where I went on a very strict, almost Grain Free (it allowed brown rice) - Nut Free, Sugar Free, Still Dairy Free Diet. And I felt really well eating that way because before going on that diet, it seemed like everything made me sick. A bowl of oatmeal, a tuna sandwich, you name it. I had been diagnosed infertile with high likelihood of Endometriosis in 2011 - I had been trying to conceive for two years at that point, so my doctor told me I was infertile. Till 2012 (after 3 years of trying) when I became pregnant! I have no idea how I was able to conceive but I suspect it may have been the diet I was following that helped. And I ate that diet from Mid 2011 till August of 2012 where my 1st trimester pregnancy cravings got the best of me and I began eating pretty much anything. I didn't feel well after going off my diet but I assumed it was just pregnancy stuff. I also discovered that miraculously I was no longer lactose intolerant. Which pretty much brings us to now, I ate whatever I wanted during my pregnancy, had my healthy, perfect son 9 months ago and my health has been going even more down hill since then. I am suffering from Chronic Diarrhea, Nocturnal Diarrhea that wakes me from a dead sleep, not every night but increasing in frequency. I am going as much as 2-8 times a day, most days but not every day. My Lactose intolerance seems to be coming back as I can only occasionally tolerate dairy now. This has been going on for several months and I am losing weight. I am Vitamin D. Deficient again but I was diagnosed Vitamin D Deficient back in 2010 as well, so that is no shock. Brain fog, fatigue, intestinal cramping, tummy pain and most recently Burning sensations, tingling and painful pins and needles in my feet and hands. Cold hands and feet, except when they are hot and burning. Still getting rashes off and on. Which prompted a B12 test that shows a huge decrease from 4 years ago but still good serum levels, no B12 Deficiency. I am having weight loss, unintended of course, my Dr. thinks it is most likely due to the Diarrhea. I have lost over 11 pounds in about 2 months despite having a pretty big appetite and having dessert after every meal and not trying to lose weight. My Dr. ran an IgA test and a TTG-IgA test on January 10th 2014. IgA 188 (Normal is 80-340) So that is normal. TTG-IgA <1.2 (Normal is 0.0-3.9) So that is normal too. I am kind of at a loss, I seriously thought maybe Celiac was the answer for me, since so much seemed to fit. The Nocturnal Diarrhea, the weight loss, even the fact that I was able to go back to eating dairy after the special diet, I thought maybe that was from my Villi Healing and that now I am Lactose Intolerant again because my Villi are getting damaged again.. Even how I was able to conceive after being on my special diet for almost a year but who knows, I'm confused now... any suggestions? There are quite a few Autoimmune Disorders in my family. I have a Sister with Lupus with Kidney Involvement, I have another Sister who has 2 AI's, she has Eosinophilic Esophagitis and Areata Alopecia. My Mother is also sick but hasn't gotten a diagnosis yet and I have a cousin with MS.   11. Been meaning to post this for a long time...after going gluten free milk really bothered me; symptoms pointed to lactose intolerance which is common in celiacs. Raw milk, which isn't available in all states, eliminated the symptoms milk was causing. Reading more on the internet shows this actually helps others with lactose intolerance because real cows milk (not pasteurized) has enzymes that help our bodies digest it. Maybe this will help someone enjoy milk again.
  12. I did the blood test and the biopsy and both came back negative. Well Im gonna tell my history here to see if someone can help me, here it goes:: When I was a kid I had a lot of infections in the throat, it was out of normal, in a year I would get sick 6-9 times and I had a very nasty tingling in my hands, that was ackward and made me not having a good motor coordination, since my hands were very shaken. When I was in the beginning of school, as a child, my school used to give us small breads in the end of school (brazilian thing, dont ask haha) and by that time I started having a really bad fog mind, that I couldnt think properly and a really nasty itch on my nose. As soon as I changed the school the symptons disappear, I could think properly and the itchness was gone, since I wasnt used to eat gluten stuff in my home. By this time, the throat infection got better too. But everytime my mom used to make home pizza or I ate white bread i felt sick, with nausea and headache (I notice that white bread is worse for me than bread roll), but I didnt mind much. When I was on 4th grade, I went to a school in the mornings and then I came back eating bread regularly and I even used to take white bread to eat between classes, and it was in this year that my gut problems started::: I started to have a really nasty problem with lactose, I couldnt eat anything with milk and even foods that contain milk, I went to the doctor and he said it was lactose intolerance that it was commom and i should avoid it (I never heard about gluten in my life and I didnt do any tests by this time). This year, my throat infections came back very strong and I had to undergo a surgery to take my tonsils out. I moved again from school in the afternoons and then I stopped eating bread (I only used to eat bread because of school in the morning). Then I started college, in another state very distance from my home, and as a college student that doesnt know how to cook well, I starting to consume a lot of products with gluten, breads, pasta, cakes. In my first term, I felt a little bit of bloating, I felt fatigued all the time, and my hair started to fall out, a lot. I started to have sinus infections, one after another, and I did a lot of surgeries in the nose to avoid further sinus infections, cause it was one after another. By this time, my fatigued was getting worse and I just wanted to sleep, I have to strengh to do anything, when I went to the gym (something that I used to do since 14yo) I notice that EVERYTIME i tried to started doing sit-ups, my abdominal muscles started to cramping, and it was terrible because of the pain of the muscle cramps. I let it go, and got out of the gym. On my 4th term, I had a huge nasal polyp, that the doctor said I had to undergo surgery, but then, my dad went to visit me to take care of me, and he started cooking and I stopped eating gluten (now I understand this) and the polyp got out, just like magic, 1 week before my surgery), i thought that very strange, but I didnt understand and the doctors didnt have any answers. When I started my 6th term, I ate a lot of breads, 5 to 6 in a day, because I didnt have any time to cook (my major in college is insane) and by the end of that semester, I started to having again those muscle cramps, hipotension, I 3 throat infections, one after another (the nightmare was back) and even the little tonsile tissue left from the surgery had hypertrophiate. the situation got worse and worse, I started to feel my belly stiff, indigestion, bloating, and a lot of pain in my belly. I did every possible test to try to diagnose it and during a trip to my college from vacation, I was fasting and I stopped in the gas station and ate a flour croissant, by the time I got in my college town, I had to be admitted to the hospital because of the pain and nausea. I did a lot of tests, and nothing. I started taking medicines for the IBS, but the pain got even worse and I started losing a LOT of weight, 15 kg in 2 weeks, even though I was eating very well. I started doing a gluten-free diet on my own, and in the 3rd day, My hands stopped shaking for the first time in my life. The nausea stopped and I felt a lot better. In a week of gluten free, i did the blood test and the biopsy and both came back negative. The doctor said I Didnt have celiacs and I could eat bread back, but I didnt. In 3 months my lactose intolerance was completely gone. I started though having malnutrition problems with my eyes, dry eyes, photophobia, dermatitis because of dry skin, foliculitis, joint pains that got a lot better when I started taking supplements and eating milk again. I got better the weight I had lost too. The problem is, my family has got this problem too. My sister has always complained of pain in the abdomen, she has to be adimitted in the hospital when she eats lots of gluten food and she had 3 miscarriages. My niece and nephew both have lactose intolerance, just like I had when I was a child, but they did the celiac panel and came back negative. I had an uncle that died from intestinal cancer. My question is:: CAN NON CELIAC GLUTEN SENSITIVITY cause lactose intolerance and malnourishment, because both, mine and my family panel came back negative?? my bypsy came with an inespecific inflammation that the doctor said "it was nothing", it had no atrophy or anything. Im non celiac gluten sensitivity person, but because of gluten my intestine gets inflammed, a non specific inflamation, i become lactose intolerant, my belly becames stiff, and I cant do any exercises, because if I do, I get abdominal muscle cramps immediately, but those cramps are only in the abdominal muscles. anyone like me??
  14. Hi everyone, I have heard before that Celiac disease can make one lactose intolerant over time due to intestinal damage. I have never been lactose intolerant, at least with symptoms, when I was younger (I am now 20) but now I can't eat even a single slice of cheese without getting either lots of gas, acid reflux or even cramping and diarrhea. I feel the effects of eating dairy instantaneously. Yet if I were to just eat a product containing gluten, such as a slice of bread, I get no symptoms at all. If my lactose intolerance is caused by damage from Celiac's, shouldn't I also feel symptoms from the gluten as well? How can I feel just the lactose intolerance but nothing from the gluten? Thanks!
  15. Hi Everyone, First off, this is my first post on this site. I apologize that this may get a bit long, but I'm really hoping someone on here can help me and if you make the committment to read all of this I thank you dearly and appreciate it more than you know! I also apologize if I'm rehashing something I should be able to find somewhere else on the forum, but I'm really at a loss right now. A little about my current situation: I'm a 22 year old guy, 160 pounds, in pretty good shape, and have played sports/eaten fairly healthy my whole life. I've been fighting this for over 3.5 years and am simply out of ideas. I've seen every doctor I can think of, and no one seems to be able to find anything wrong with me. However, my symptoms are so severe I can barely make it through the day anymore. I'm worn out, exhausted, and ready to give up. I've been prescribed 30 mg Adderall and 200 mg Tramadol per day (for 3 months now), and I still feel like I'm just making it through. I'm sick of drugging myself up every day just to get by, but I don't have a choice at the moment. I'd like to list my symptoms and see if anyone else has had the same experience. I'm wondering if this is some sort of gluten intolerance/food allergy. Or, if anyone has any other ideas I am more than willing to listen! Here we go... 1. Sore throat – This is the main one. I've had it since August 2009. I've always gotten sore throats since 6th grade, usually for a month at a time, once or twice a year. I got this one in August '09, and it just has never gone away. It's a constant pain, every day. I feel it when I'm not talking, but mostly it makes me want to not speak. Every syllable hurts. Which is really annoying since I used to be super outgoing and make friends with complete strangers all the time. 2. Fatigue – This has gotten bad the last year. If I don't take the Adderall, I lay in bed all day. I usually try to take the weekends off my meds, and I hardly leave my bed. I have no motivation to do anything. It doesn't matter if I sleep 4 hours or 12, I'm exhausted. I'll sleep 12 hours, wake up for 2, then go back to bed for a 2 hour nap. It's insanity! 3. Running out of breath easily – I'm not sure if this ties into the fatigue, but it has started the past year. It's strange because I'm in fairly good shape (I was doing triathlons a little over a year ago), and now I start breathing heavily from going up one flight of stairs. (I did have a procedure done 2 weeks ago where they cleaned out phlegm from the tube that runs into my right lung, this has helped greatly, but I still have some trouble) 4. Lactose Intolerance – This is the one that cued me in to the idea of gluten sensitivity. At one point in high school I used to drink 1/2 gallon of milk/day, and then probably about 2 years ago I developed an intolerance and have been avoiding dairy ever since. 5. Excessive Appetite – I've always had a fast metabolism, but lately it has gotten insane. I eat literally every 2 hours. If I don't eat in 3, I start feeling exhausted and painfully hungry...If I wait 4, I will fall asleep. I recently had a glucose tolerance test (to test for diabetes) and I wasn't able to eat for about 5 hours, and I almost passed out driving back to work afterwords. My blood sugar was extremely low, which I found out later, 54 mg/dL, when I left the hospital. Anyways, it's gotten to the point where I don't enjoy food most of the time. It's a burden. I feel like I have to eat...it's become work. 6. Back Pain – I've had this for a while, but it has gotten really bad the last year. Somedays my throat pain dominates my mental state, some days my back pain does. 7. Acid Reflux – I've had to drastically change my diet to avoid some of my favorite things (orange juice, etc.). I tried omeprazole (prilosec) for a while, but it didn't seem to help. I've also tried holistic ways of dealing with it (aloe vera juice, probiotics), but to no avail. If I stick to a good diet though this doesn't bother me that much anymore. I avoid coffee, tea, and energy drinks. 8. Difficulty Swallowing – This started about 4 months ago, and is part of what has prompted me to really try to tackle this stuff. It feels like my throat is closing up on me and as if I'm forcing food down a narrow hole as I swallow, even though the doc says my throat is plenty open. It doesn't feel like it. Sometimes I'll choke on my multivitamin in the morning. I also choked on shredded chicken in my chicken noodle soup (gluten free) the other day. I appreciate anyone who has read this far! Just a little more I want to share on the testing I have had done. My glucose tolerance test was negative for diabetes. I had a celiac blood panel done, and I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but it was negative. I've been on a gluten free diet for the last 2 months and haven't seen any improvement, although I have noticed I was glutened 3 times after rechecking labels later. I'm trying my best, but I'm still learning. My younger sister (21) and brother (18) have both been DNA test for celiac and were found to have DQ2.5/DQ8 and DQ2.2/DQ8 genes. I had an upper GI endoscopy recently and the doc stretched open my throat and also ruled out eosinophilic esophagitis. He didn't check for celiac though, and I hadn't considered/thought of it until literally the next day! I had a sleep study 3 weeks ago and ruled out sleep apnea/other sleep disorders. I've been to 3 different ENTs and had multiple scopes, but all they've been able to give me has been omeprazole and blank stares. I've been tested twice for mono and had a CT scan of my neck that found nothing. I had an allergy test 3 years ago when this first started, which found I was mildly allergic to milk and beef, but the doc said it wasn't really significant (can food allergies change drastically over time? maybe something would be more apparent now that this is more progressed?). Could it be a mineral/vitamin deficiency? I also tried a course of prednisone 3 weeks ago, but I developed a rash on the second day and stopped taking them. I might retry that though when I see my doc next week. I also want to try a 24 hour PH monitor. I've also elevated the upper end of my bed for the past year or so, to no avail. Sorry this is so long, and also sorry if it's a bit jumbled. But, anyone have any thoughts? Thank you for listening. Much love. Merpaul
  16. Is anyone here intolerant to ONLY milk? I went off dairy entirely when I went gluten free, then slowly reintroduced it. Yogurt, cheeses, that kind of thing do fine with me, but I put milk back in the mix this week and things have come back. Is it possible to be intolerant to just milk?
