ARCHIVED Testing A Three Year Old
ligeia replied to ligeia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She has been off of gluten for a few months now but has gotten it a few times accidentally here and there. The Enterolab site said that a person already off of gluten shouldn't go back on it for the testing but for someone so young maybe it would be a better idea? She's showing mostly behavioral symptoms. She acts majorly ADHD, she gets grouchy and tired... -
ARCHIVED Testing A Three Year Old
ligeia replied to ligeia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My child does display symptoms but I would like to know for sure. I would prefer to avoid a biopsy for her sake. If we did bloodwork would she have to be consuming gluten for it to show up? If a genetic test shows that she carries the gene isn't it safe to assume she would benefit from a gluten free diet? -
ARCHIVED Testing A Three Year Old
ligeia posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What is the most reliable test for a three year old? I was thinking probably a genetic screening would be the best bet but how much does it cost? Who does it? What do they look for? False positives or anything like that? -
I suspect my 2.5 yr old of Celiac as it runs in my family and I am also have it. She seemed to get better taking her off of gluten for about a month but the other day, she got ahold of some (she ran ahead in the grocery store and stuffed a bunch of french bread into her mouth within like a couple of seconds!) She also got a handful of crackers the next day...

Behavioral problems are one of my daughter's only symptoms. When she eats gluten she gets SO moody, irritable, and doesn't seem to be able to control her emotions/reactions very well at all. I picked up on it immediately because I feel the same way when I get glutened.

ARCHIVED Avoiding Celiacs?
ligeia replied to ligeia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So, he either has it or not and whether or not he appears to have celiacs now, he inevitably will if he has the genetic marker, am I understanding correctly? -
ARCHIVED Avoiding Celiacs?

Thanks for the reply. I kind of thought it was too good to be true, just wanted to get some other opinions on it. -
ARCHIVED Sunscreen And Bug Spray
ligeia replied to mcarbone's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Excuse my ignorance but why does it matter if something topical is gluten free since it is not entering into the digestive tract? Thanks for the info! -
This doesn't really make sense to me but I was just talking to a friend who has an adopted daughter (genetics unknown) so she is going to try to *avoid* the onset of celiacs. I have a 2.5 yr old who I suspect may be sensitive to gluten and I have just decided to try taking her off of gluten for a little while to see if I notice a difference. However, I also...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Supplements
ligeia posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really suspect that there is gluten in my capsules I've been taking for supplements. It doesn't say anywhere on the bottle but my symptoms flair up whenever I take them. I need these supplements to help combat my post partem depression and I really need to find some I can take that don't make me feel awful! Does anyone have a list of drug companies that... -
omg I just realized I have a bunch of pampered chef stone crocks that have been my baking staple. They were probably used for baking wheat like three times before I was diagnosed. Does anyone know how I could clean these efficiently so that I can still use them? They're expensive so I don't want to just throw them out and they also work like a dream for...

ARCHIVED Drugs And Vitamins
ligeia posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been gluten free for 6 months now but I still feel weird every once in awhile, like I've gotten it somewhere. I was suspecting the vitamins/supplements I'm taking but I checked the label and gluten isn't on the ingredients list. Does this mean they are gluten free or can they get away with not labeling it? If so, does anyone have a gluten free list... -
I keep the enzyme in my purse so that if we go out to eat and there is something I am not absolutely sure is gluten free, I take it. It works if it's a very small amount of gluten but, for me, it does work.

ARCHIVED When Should I Test My Children?
ligeia replied to ligeia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for the input. So if I test around the 3, 3.5 year mark, is that a reasonable amount of time for their immune systems to develop? Obviously, it probably depends on the person and their diet but generally speaking... -
Ok. So basically it just depends on how sensitive an individual is? It may or may not bother me, I just have to figure that out for myself? I'm sorry, I'm new to this and I just want to make sure I know my stuff.

When I find a product that is gluten free but the label says something like "processed in a facility that also processes wheat," how often is this actually a problem for celiacs? Should I also avoid these products? Who out there still eats these things?

ARCHIVED When Should I Test My Children?
ligeia posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have been diagnosed with Celiacs and I have a two year old daughter and a five month old son. My doctor told me it's best to wait until they're three so that their immune system is better developed before testing them for the disease and just keep feeding the normal diet. My daughter hasn't shown signs of the disease and has been eating what would normally... -
How common is it for Celiacs to have other food intolerances? It seems that I've come across it being mentioned a lot on this forum so it got me thinking. I'm vegetarian and so eat quite a bit of dairy and soy on a regular basis. I've been off of gluten for a little while now but still have that sort of bogged down feeling. Maybe it's just residual vitamin...

ARCHIVED Low Hcg -- Should I Be Nervous?
ligeia replied to amybeth's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just wanted to say that some women just don't have high levels. With both my pregnancies, I didn't even have enough hormone to detect on tests. I would come up negative on home pregnancy tests and blood tests. Both of my babies were perfectly normal and healthy. Sorry, I just noticed your second post. Wish you the best of luck w/ future pregnancies. -
I have recently been diagnosed with Celiacs and it's something that all the women in my family have but my two year old daughter has not been tested thus far. I am starting to worry that she may have it too and was wondering if recurring nightmares can be one of the symptoms. She usually wakes up once or twice a night crying and is very hard to console back...
