ARCHIVED Grass Fed Cows Vs Grain Fed Cows? (For Their Milk)
Sock replied to glutenfreemomma188's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, nobody is saying it won't look disgusting. Manure will hard pack about five inches deep, so dense that it'll even be waterproof. We've drifted off-topic for the thread and WAY off topic for the board. -

Despite what Chipotle says, no such thing. -

Grains are just different part of a grass plant. They've got a higher nutrient and calorie density that makes them easier to transport and feed (and easier for the cattle to gain/maintain weight). There will be some differences in the meat and milk, but nothing that will bother your health. Personally, grain fed tastes better. There can be health... -
Anybody getting their health "information" from Dr. Oz or Facebook should be regarded with pity.

ARCHIVED Get Creative Describing Your Symptoms - Zombie Porcupines!
Sock replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lava diarrehia. Sometimes with constipation at the same time. Yeah, I didn't think it was possible either, but I'm on the cutting edge of bathroom science. Boldly going where no man will admit to having gone before... "Either it'll kill me or I'll kill someone, whichever comes first" ...I'm stealing that. -
I can tell that you're new here. Hahaha No, really, it's going to take a LOT more description before you get anywhere near too graphic.

ARCHIVED How Do You Describe Celiac Disease When People Ask You "what's That?"
Sock replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just go straight for the TMI. "imagine having the dry heaves...only with liquid fire. Now imagine that coming out the other end." -
I'm sure it's horrible for your insides, especially in a weakened state, but a cup of coffee can work miracles for me.

ARCHIVED Symptoms But Eating gluten-free
Sock replied to veryami1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes; it's likely that you haven't completely healed. THAT said, a month into the diet and it's just as likely that you're still getting glutened by products you think are safe. It took me a few months to figure out that 'reading the label' isn't enough (depending on the company). I will say in this case you were almost certainly glutened when you ate out... -
ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!
Sock replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pizza crusts freeze rather nicely! Whip up a bunch of gluten free crusts and toss 'em in the freezer...then make the kids sauce and top 'em. Sure, you'll have a mess to clean up, but all you'll have to do for prep work is preheat the oven and fetch a crust out of the freezer.- 25 replies

...and heaven help them if the bathroom is occupied when you need it: there is no waiting! (and the neighbors thought it was bad when the DOG was out in the yard doing it's business) -
ARCHIVED Looking For Hives Experts
Sock replied to seraphim's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I get hives they tend to move around...start on the outside of my upper arm, move to the inside then my armpits and down my sides. It usually happens around wheat harvest time. (coming up at the end of the month for this area. /sarcasticglee) -
I agree...the gluten free bagels are great anyway.

ARCHIVED How Does It Happen ?
Sock replied to mxkzach000's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Like others have said, I'm sure your sister can probably look back and remember times when she had symptoms and didn't know what to attribute them to. After I found out I had CS (which only happened after my mother was diagnosed) I had an "Oh, DUH" moment when I realized that there was a reason why my guts would start burning after finishing a sandwich... -

Not like I used to: Reminds me of the old Garfield cartoon...Eating is social, but we all diet alone. I'm sure everyone on this board can relate to this feeling.

ARCHIVED Vitamins And Weight Loss - What To Expect
Sock replied to misulli's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wouldn't be too concerned with your weight, for now. Prior to my diagnosis I'd lost 55 lbs. in three months ( I could go to McDonalds, pack away a Big Mac, a Double 1/4 pounder w/ cheese, and two large fries and was losing weight like crazy: knockin' on heaven's door, if you will. ) Nowadays I weigh in about 5lbs heavier than I did the day I graduated... -

QFE: Don't make meals difficult. Start simple: meats, seafood, rice. potatoes, fresh veggies and fruit. Since you're in college I'd suggest getting a rice cooker (if you are eating rice, that is). A cup of rice, a cup of water; toss in a piece of pre-cooked meat (to thaw) and you've got a meal with only 20 seconds spent on preparation. You also might...
