  1. I don't buy substitute foods, or "convenience" foods. I work, I have a household, I don't own a microwave and I eat gluten-free. I don't think that slows me down at all or costs more. In the time it takes my neighbor to drive to the fast food restaurant and wait in line and get back home, we've already made and nearly eaten gorgeous salads full of yumminess...
  2. First of all, the blood tests are not always definitive. But more than that, why do you feel badly about recognizing that a food doesn't work for you and then avoiding it? You don't need a label to be justified in taking care of yourself. Instead of saying, "I think maybe I might have Celiac disease but my doctor doesn't think so...", just say "I don't eat...

I have to add one other thing about doctors -- they work in a system where insurance companies dictate which procedures you can have and which you can't (unless you want to pay for them on your own), where there is almost always financial pressure in an office to see a specific number of patients, which dictates how much time those patients will get, and...
  4. I was diagnosed with IBS and then later with Crohn's -- neither was a correct diagnosis; the Crohn's diagnosis was jumped to b/c there is a family history, which I also believe was misdiagnosis. I believe there actually is a family history of misdiagnosed celiac disease. I have been given multitudes of meds which not only didn't work but often made me ill...
  5. I'm brand new to this forum but wanted to mention that people with celiac disease can also have other problems just like everyone else. It's tempting to assume that symptoms that seem like they are related to gluten mean that celiac is the answer every time problems come up, but it could be another food sensitivity (dairy? nightshades?), it could, like someone...
