  1. I was in Italy for a long weekend to view a wedding venue. Unfortunately, I then had the second worst stomach night of my life
  2. I am going there on vacation and can find lots of proper restaurants for lunch and dinner; but I am looking for places that serve breakfast stuff like omelettes, bacon, sausage etc. Thanks!
  3. Don't worry: I'm not gonna start ingesting barley on purpose. I just find it strange how the tiniest speck of wheat flour will cross contaminate my food and I will be sick for a week; yet with barley the reaction is barely noticeable. Odd.....
  4. I was dx in July 2009 and became obsessed with label reading. I always had my list of gluten-free foods and checked everything. However, due to feeling so good and massive stress I got lazy recently. Well, I accidently ingested barley during the past few days in some sweets I had been having nightly. I normally react to a glutening with foul smelling stools, bloating, a few pounds of water weight and horrible constipation. Well, after this barley I have experienced NONE of these symptoms. In fact, today was my first day post glutening and normally one day post glutening is horrible with bloating, constipation and embarrassing foul smelling stools. Is there something inherently different about barley? I normally get sick as a dog from even one invisible crumb of wheat!!
  5. I am going to a wedding in Scotland this weekend. I will be fine for the wedding dinner as the hotel knows about my celiac status. However, I will arrive very late on the Friday evening and will need to eat before bed. I may also need to eat on the Saturday evening after the wedding. The Sunday I will spend shopping in Edinburgh. I have already bookmarked the safe restaurants there so that is fine. I have no mini fridge in my room as the hotel could not source one. They said I could store my food in their fridge if I wanted. I am not too comfortable with that however. The chef said he will cook the gluten-free sausages I need for my breakfast and I will bring them with me. So for my evening meals/snacks I am bringing: String cheese- will this be okay if not refrigerated? It will not be hot in Edinburgh. Popcorn Dark 85% chocolate Butter Rice Bread Apples Can anyone else think of anything else I should bring? Thanks!
  6. You definitely need to get your thyroid checked. Not just a TSH but antibodies and free T3 and free T4. Get a copy of your results and post them here or at http:// forums.realthyroidhelp.com.
  7. I don't understand: why are you eating a food you are allergic to?
  8. If lay people and the medical community really understood the difference between gluten intolerance and celiac disease I would tell them I am gluten intolerant. However, people think intolerance means you can have the item now and again. When I say celiac on the other hand, people listen to me and respect my dietary needs. My bloods never showed an issue. I later found out that since I was eating a very low carb diet, they were not accurate. So, I had the enterolab tests done and I have one celiac gene as well as one gluten sensitive gene. I also showed mild malabsorption and elevated antibodies. As well as that I have Hashimotos thyroiditis so the chances of me having celiac are higher than the normal population. Since I went gluten-free I have lost 8.5lbs and digestive issues have cleared up. I could do a gluten challenge to get an "official" diagnosis but I don't want to go through that pain. I am looking forward to the day Kenneth Fine's work is validated and I can be officially diagnosed by that.
