  1. I wanted to add an update to this thread. I called Cumberland Gap, now owned by Smithfield. Their products are all gluten free.
  2. Thank you to all for your thoughtful replies. I am thinking the anemia could be the cause. I called the doctor to get her past levels that tend to fluctuate but she is on the low end of normal normally and dips down I believe because of heavy periods. We began the multivitamin with iron and a sublingual B supplement. She is already feeling better. I...
  3. My 14 year old daughter is about 7 weeks gluten-free - just past diagnosis. Of course we are trying very hard to make sure she is getting no gluten. She was feeling much better around the 4 week stage. Got her period, and possibly a virus, we don't know, and we are back with symptoms. I am thinking she may be anemic but the symptoms are similar to her...
  4. Being Celiac has nothing to do with allergies. The body's response is different. I am lactose intolerent but am not allergic to milk. A celiac will not test positive on an allergy test for wheat unless they are also allergic to it.
  5. Hang in there! My teenage daughter was diagnosed and has been 5 weeks gluten free and she is still working out the symptoms. All are improved and the diet is really getting so much easier. A lifesaver for me has been the Cecelia's Grocery Shopping Handbook. Another Celiac recommended it to me and it has been a lifesaver, the dietician didn't even give...
  6. Thank You, Thank You Nora! I appreciate the information and website
  7. Thank you very much for your replies. I knew I only had a partial understanding of this-and now it is confirmed with these excellent replies! Does her lab result give any clue as to if she inherited it from one or both of us? I am trying to get in to be tested and my husband doesn't feel the need. I can believe it is possible I have celiac disease. ...
  8. My DD was just diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Her antibody labwork all came back with moderately high levels, negative biopsy, and a genetic positive test with DQ8 Homozygous (10X) result. With these results the Dr. diagnosed her. I am trying to understand the DQ8 Homzygous results. Does anyone have insight into this type of genetic testing. They said...
  9. Thank you to all who offered advice. We shall wait and see what the test says. Meanwhile we are learning about the Gluten Free diet. This web site is wonderful!
  10. My daughter has been seeing a GI for 3 months. Her celiac panel came back positive, her biopsy was negative. We had to wait 3 weeks to see the doc so I thought maybe we can try gluten free eating. She improved a bit during the 10 days and then the nurse became upset I was trying the diet before the visit so we stopped. She thought she had IBS. We did...
  11. Thank you so very much for your replies. We are going forward with the gluten-free diet (learning as we go:) and she is beginning to feel better. She still has times when her belly is crampy and bloated but not constant pain from midmorning to bedtime. In my thinking the blood tests show evidence of Celiac, even if the portion of the small intestine...
  12. My 14 year old daughter is in the process of testing for Celiac. Her blood work panel IGA and endomysial came back positive. Her scope biopsy showed no damage. Dr. said the diagnosis was inconclusive and left it at that. We discussed possible gene test but said I may want to try gluten-free diet. My daughter, who is exhausted of feeling badly, really...
