  1. Hi All, First off, I'd like to say how much of a blessing this site has been for me. It's a comfort to know I can go somewhere to read, learn, and share. My biopsy results came back today- all negative. Things looked normal. This actually frustrated me. Here are my blood test results: Severe iron anemia- ferritin at 3 Low hemoglobin, hemocrit, low white and low red blood cell count. Low protein levels. Increased liver function (not good). Celiac gene test = positive Major issue that spurred above testing: Iron deficit anemia, body not absorbing iron, even liquid iron over a 12 mnth period. So my Dr pretty much told me there is no reason why I'm anemic. What?! I'm so frustrated and upset...I need my iron levels up badly. I'm so very tired and just not feeling like myself at all. I have started a strict gluten free diet and have largely eliminated all grains and dairy. I feel better than I have in a very long time. However, will this help me increase my iron levels? That is my main concern. I have suspected celiac or gluten intolerance due to my other symptoms (depression, fatigue, bloating, night sweats). I guess I'm looking for advice or suggestions from others. Thanks in advance!!
  2. After many years of iron deficient anemia, my Dr. decided to test for celiac. The antibody test was negative. The gene test was positive. My symptoms seem to indicate celiac as well. I had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy performed at the same time 1 week ago. No test results yet. I hope to hear something later today. In the meantime, my anemia feels worse than it ever has before. I'm OK in the morning, but by 2pm, I just feel hollow. Empty. It's awful. I think to myself, going for a long walk outside would be awesome....then my legs burn just to get out the door. I just want an answer to this already! I can't concentrate because I'm anxious to hear something and my anemia makes it virtually impossible. Sorry for the rant
  3. I've been very anemic for several years. After drinking a liquid iron supplement (Floradix) for 6 mnths, my ferritn levels were still significantly low (3mg). My Dr. wanted to know why I'm not absorbing iron and sent me through a battery of tests. My Results: Blood test for celiac = Negative Blood test for celiac gene = Positive (the common one, 2 I think) I just had a colonoscpy and endoscopy performed. Biopsies were taken and I have to wait for results. I do feel like I am sensitive to wheat products (they make me moody and sleepy very fast). I am a competitive athlete and have always watched what I put in my mouth and how it affects my performance / how I feel. I personally think I am a dead ringer for Celiac but wanted some other opinions. Plus, my Dr said I can have the celiac gene but not develop celiac. Is that true? Thanks in advance!!
