  1. I know this an old thread, but am sure that others still find it through the search function. Cafe Rio has now added an allergy info section to their website. Here is the link: http://www.caferio.com/images/stories/caferio/pdf/allergy_info3.pdf I guess there are a few gluten free items....but I won't be eating there anymore. Honestly, I'm pretty depressed. It WAS my favorite restaurant. I have been eating there at least twice a month.
  2. My Ttg was only 4 (weak positive range was 4-10). My biopsy was definitely positive.
  3. Kens, Kraft, and Wishbone have several gluten free dressings. Off the top of my head I know that Wishbone Ranch dressing is actually labeled gluten free. Also you can order MANY gluten free items on (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned). I know you can get the Gluten Free Bisquick there. Hope that helps a little.
  4. I had a bowl of Chex. Unimpressive, I know, but it's easy, cheap, and tastes great! (Which, for me personally, I can't say about most other gluten-free breakfast food.)
  5. First of all, I want to offer my prayers, and best wishes for you and your son. I was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease. I have a son with Autism (younger than yours), who is an extremely picky eater. He is not on a gluten free diet (yet), but I've had nightmares about how difficult this change would be on him if he ends up having Celiac. He will completely melt down just over a change in brands, or even if his usual brands change their packaging. I can totally see why a gluten free diet could be beyond frustrating for an autistic child and their parent(s). If you could tell us everything he was previously willing to eat, that might help us make better suggestions. (Because while there are many naturally gluten free foods, most of them are things my son would NEVER eat.) Will he eat gluten free pizza? (Don't be afraid to keep trying different brands/recipes, I've had several I hated...but have found one that I like.) Can you make him burritos with gluten free flour tortillas? Can he have sugar substitues, like splenda? If so, maybe you could make him some treats? Also, several people have suggested caseworkers, etc. If you decide you would like professional help, you should seek out an Occupational Therapist who can help with feeding issues. I have seen amazing progress in my friends son who received this kind of therapy. I have met once with an Occuptional Therapist, and was given some information that was very helpful. If you are interested, I can tell you more about it, and/or send you copies of that information. I also had one other thought, some people, especially those with autism, have terrible withdrawl symptoms after going gluten free. If he has recently started the gluten free diet I would highly suspect that that is contributing to his irritablity, and that with some more time, the withdrawl symptoms will taper off. Again, I offer you my best wishes.
  6. I was just retested, and guess what? My liver enzymes have almost normalized on the gluten free diet. My ALT/AST was 118/232 (normal range is 0-40). It has come down to 41/56 in just a month. My elevated liver enzymes were definitely related to the celiac disease. I just thought I would share, since I'm sure others will be searching this board for answers at some future date.
  7. Mushroom is right. You need the reference range for the Ttg test. Let us know when you find out what it its.
  8. I was recently diagnosed with celiac, and went gluten free 5 weeks ago. Two weeks ago I went to the doctor for a follow up visit. My bloodwork came back with elevated liver enzymes (2-5 times the upper limit.) My doctor did more blood work and ruled some things out, didn't find a cause. My doctor wanted to send me for an ultrasound, but I talked her into waiting a month and retesting my liver enzyme levels to see if they are coming down (indicating that it is probably celiac related, and responding well to the gluten-free diet.) How elevated were your levels? I would be very interested to hear from others who had elevated liver enzymes - especially if they were elevated from celiac.
  9. I just thought I'd mention that homemade cookies freeze very well. I like to make a big batch and keep them in the freezer. They taste better and cost less. I do keep other treats on hand (pudding cups, ice cream, or gluten-free candy) in case I have run out of cookies and need a treat.
  10. I was just diagnosed last month. My GI doctor couldn't "see" anything either. My biopsy showed villous atrophy - confirming the diagnosis of celiac. The villi are not visible except by biopsy. I think some damage is so severe it damages more than the villi, and that is what doctors are sometimes able to see.
  11. I really like Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal. It does take a few minutes to cook. One serving is only 150 calories, with 4 grams each of protein and fiber.
  12. I am not a fan of corn tortillas either, but have been eating them anyway. They taste MUCH better if you warm them in a frying pan. Eating mexican food is really helping me get through going gluten-free (I've been gluten-free less than two weeks). Huevos Rancheros are very good with corn tortillas. I still don't like a taco with a corn tortilla...I just make a taco salad with crushed tortilla chips or make a tostada (I added 1 tsp. oil to the frying pan to cook the tortilla - it really makes it taste pretty good.)
