ARCHIVED Need Advice About Conflicting Test Results Please...
BellaBella replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi ToWorry....interesting information here! That's more information than I have been able to find previously. Oddly enough, my 7 year old son has Eosinophilic Esophagitis so I'm pretty well-versed on the eosinophilic stuff, however, I didn't realize that Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis caused villous atrophy! Wow! And to answer your question, yes....my thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Conflicting Test Results Please...
BellaBella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi all, Just looking for some info on my conflicting test results.... Have had Celiac symptoms for years. Was tested last winter and I got some conflicting results. In a nutshell, all my "labs" (bloodwork & biopsies) were negative, but.....my gastro noted that during my endoscopy she observed flattened villi. I know there are lots of false negatives... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Changing?
BellaBella replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Funny you should mention that.... My son who's allergic to dairy and peanuts also has EoE. He doesn't have the food impaction part of that though but without meds he vomits up to 6 times a day. We visited his gastro on Monday and she said that the same gene is responsible for Celiac and EoE...that's the first I've heard of that! Send me a PM if you want! -
This is fascinating to me. I am recently gluten free but my 6 year old son has life threatening allergies to dairy and peanuts - we carry an EpiPen as well. In addition to the food allergies he also has Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE.....eosinophilic enteropathy) so he takes a few meds including omeprazole (Prilosec). In all my reading about food allergies...

ARCHIVED Symptoms Changing?
BellaBella replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi GlutenFreeAustinite, I'm on my own journey with celiac disease and a gluten free lifestyle, but my 6 year old has life threatening allergies to dairy and peanuts. I am NEVER without an EpiPen. I have read several times that each subsequent exposure to an allergen can cause a worse reaction than the last so it is *possible* that you may experience true... -

ARCHIVED Pathology Report
BellaBella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A couple of days ago I posted a thread about my biopsy results. One member suggested getting the pathology report and posting that here so that's what I'm doing now: Material submitted: Part A: second part duodenum Diagnosis: Normal duodenal mucosa. No abnormalities seen. No evidence of sprue is seen. Gross description: A... -
ARCHIVED Question About Dh And Testing For It.
BellaBella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Per some of my previous posts/threads I am having trouble getting a formal Celiac diagnosis. A quick rundown: negative blood panel, negative pathology report from biopsy but doctor did see visual flattening of the mucosa during endoscopy....and obviously I have many many symptoms. But one of my other severely irritating symptoms is intense skin itching... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Experiences?
BellaBella replied to Deniseannette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep...piece of cake. I had the dual procedure last week and it was super-simple. (Minus the colonoscopy prep!) They gave me something in the IV, I was out about 12 seconds later and then I woke up in recovery with my husband. I felt great although a tiny bit loopy. Hubby and I went for breakfast and then I went home to nap. I really didn't feel tired... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Yesterday!
BellaBella replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had mine last week and the doctor found visual signs of Celiac (flattened mucosa) but the pathology came back "normal." Go figure. I'm waiting for a copy of the pathology results so I can see them for myself. Today is my first day gluten-free! Good luck to you! -
ARCHIVED Symptoms/ Diagnosis
BellaBella replied to kalexat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi kalexat. The endoscopy should be a piece of cake. I had one last week as well as a colonoscopy. The prep for the colonoscopy is what sucked but the actual procedure really was simple, fast and "easy." No pain at all afterward. I went in, got in the gown, got the IV and was wheeled into the procedure room. The nurse said "nighty-night" and the next... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy?...so Frustrated!
BellaBella replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gosh... More great advice! @rosetapper....that makes perfect sense. I will certainly take that into consideration. My folks have been gluten-free for about 3 years and my step-mom eats exactly as you described. She will be a great resource and because of her and my dad I'm not completely overwhelmed by all of this....yet it's somewhat familiar and... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy?...so Frustrated!
BellaBella replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@mushroom....that is great advice. I will for sure ask for a copy of the report. It was only because I had a copy of the blood tests that I questioned my regular doctor's dx of celiac. I double checked the results, and they alone appeared negative, hence the trip back to the GI to request a biopsy. With regard to what you mentioned about inflammation,... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy?...so Frustrated!
BellaBella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am so frustrated! Here's my story in a nutshell. 20+ years of symptoms. #1 symptom has always been abdominal pain. (The last 3 weeks it's been EVERY day.) Diagnosed IBS by 2 GIs. Diagnosed Hashimotos earlier this year. Asked for a blood test, was told by my regular doctor that I for sure had Celiac but blood panel says otherwise. Here's what it shows... -
ARCHIVED Flattened Mucosa In The Duodenum?
BellaBella replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh... One other thing, the GI said celiac isn't usually associated with pain but that seems contradictory to lots of stuff I've read. Abdominal pain is probably my number one symptom and has been for 15+ years. -
ARCHIVED Flattened Mucosa In The Duodenum?
BellaBella replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's kinda funny because I'm actually hoping for a celiac diagnosis now.... It sure would explain lots of symptoms I've had for years. My concern is that they will come back and say that despite the look of the duodenum the pathology report shows negative for celiac. Then what does that mean? No sense getting too worked up about it until I hear back... -
ARCHIVED Flattened Mucosa In The Duodenum?
BellaBella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi all! Had an endoscopy AND colonoscopy done yesterday to check for celiac, Crohns and/or microscopic colitis. No Crohn's found (yeah!) and I'm awaiting the formal pathology report for the other 2. But, on the test report that the doctor sent home with me she noted that she found "flattened mucosa in the duodenum, suspicious for celiac," and she also... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Help Me Interpret These Results?
BellaBella replied to BellaBella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi everyone, thanks for your responses. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't mis-interpreting something. I was eating gluten when I had the blood draw. I have tried the gluten-free diet before in the past but never made it more than a week. It's been about 2 months since I last tried, I'm not sure if that could have skewed the blood test results. The sum... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Help Me Interpret These Results?
BellaBella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi All. I am 35 and have had IBS symptoms (and others) for 20 years, at least. After doing a lot of reading about Celiac and going gluten-free I asked my doctor to do a blood test. I went in two days ago for my follow-up, as soon as she entered the room she said "you have Celiac." She was that definitive. I asked her if I should have a biopsy and...
