  1. I forgot to mention… to avoid additives, and production cross contamination with gluten or ANY allergens… I now grind my own turkey, and it's way easier than I thought. You will need a food processor, here's how: - Cut Turkey (or any meat) into 1 inch cubes. - Place cubes on plate/baking-sheet and pop in freezer for 20 minutes - Take out of ...
  2. I should have clarified in my long post above -- I have Celiac, but I'm ALSO allergic to dairy, soy, grains, nightshades, corn. I have to basically eat Paleo, and not by choice. This has all happened in the last few years, like my immune system gradually just crapped out. Back to Jenny-O… if you google, a lot of people have bad reactions to their Ground T...
  3. I contacted Hormel, the manufacturer for "Jennie-O Ground Turkey". I exchanged 5 emails with a "Consumer Response Specialist" who would not give me a straight answers to my questions about the "Natural Flavorings" listed on the packaging, and eventually refused to answer my questions. The problem is "Natural" has no legal meaning or weight, anyone can...
  4. I forget about the Cross Contamination issue frequently. I think my brain tries to hang on to the way things were, even though I lived with severe Gluten reactions for years without knowing it. I would never eat anything from a regular bakery either... but INSTINCT took over... and I licked that knife! Mmmmm.... and stupid :-)
  5. Oh... Cross Contamination... of course :-)
  6. What is CC? Vanilla extract is gluten free. Vanilla flavoring sometimes contains barley malt, or malt. It's always labeled, but I didn't think to look and got glutened by this a couple of times in the early days.
  7. Yesterday I bought a decorated birthday cake. One of the letters was wrong, so I carefully scraped it off and without thinking, stupidly licked the knife. Sure enough, this morning I have a full-on gluten reaction, which is very severe for me and usually means 5 days in bed. Oh joy. I called the baker out of curiosity, as I'm only 18 months into being...
  8. I emailed Solaray to ask if their Astaxanthin (1mg, 2mg or 4mg) is Gluten Free. They responded telling me to call their "Nutritional Products Helpline" (800) 227-6063. They wrote... "please note that we cannot respond to your inquiry unless you call". So I called their Helpline... talked to "Sue"... and was informed "that product is NOT certified...
  9. Thank you, I appreciate somebody else saying this. I am scratching my head to be honest.
  10. Respectfully, you misunderstand me. I don't expect anyone who isn't Celiac or Gluten Free to be an expert. I didn't say this. I do expect a large corporation selling food they are branding with a "g" icon to denote Gluten Free, to properly educate their staff about what this own-brand packaging claim means. I don't expect TJ staff to know whether...
  11. I know you posted this 2 years ago but... thanks for sharing! I was just googling trying to find out if Solaray Astaxanthin 1mg is Gluten Free and you have pretty much answered that for me.
  12. I have huge issues with Trader Joe's labeling. For example their frozen Tamales claim to be Gluten Free with the "g" logo. There is NO statement on the back about the facility or equipment. I was sick within minutes. The same thing has happened with multiple items from TJ's. I know they are not obliged to disclose anything about equipment. But what...
  13. Received a reply from CoverGirl about whether their products contain Gluten. It's a long email, and it seems to me the answer is actually yes, but they say no, because apparently the physicians they consulted said trace amounts wouldn't be a problem! The replies I am receiving from manufacturers are hilarious. I got another from a haircare company this...
  14. Thanks for the recommendations. I use Vitacost for vitamin D, so I will try some Andalou stuff next time I order. Love the lipstick exchange, checking that out now!
  15. Yes I was a little alarmed too, so I did some googling to try and understand why the same ingredient would go in OJ and moisturizer. Tocopherol is basically Vitamin E, which is mixed with Acetic Acid to form alpha-tocopherol. It's then added to food AND skincare in slightly different forms for each. It's also used for floor wax, lol. It's regarded as...
  16. Thanks for the tip, I will check that out. Cute doggy!
  17. Great to know, thanks! I will check out their shampoos and conditioners now.
  18. Very good to know, thank you.
  19. Good to know you had no reaction to the chips, that was brave. My husband can't understand why I would even risk anything that could make me ill...I tell him sometimes you just gotta find out, otherwise eating the same things all the time becomes very boring. I am fairly sure TJ Corn Tortillas Glutened me. They claim "Gluten Free" on the front but...
  20. Thanks for letting me know it's ok to post the product specifics. The brand is "Desert Essence" and the amazing facial moisturizer discovery is their "My Sweetie Pie Baby Lotion". 100% vegan, wheat and gluten free. Also fragrance free and hypoallergenic. This is a link to the manufacturer website for informational purposes only, but I was able...
  21. Because I'm new here, I would Iike to ask if it's ok to post the name of a gluten free brand and product I would like to recommend? Please let me know so I can add a comment with the details. After going gluten-free, I was sad to throw away all the lotions and moisturizers I had been addicted to for years. But all those nasty ingredients, ugh, I couldn...
  22. Great thread, running for over 2 years, obviously a popular topic and a common question, about whether poor sleep improves after DX and going Gluten Free. I wonder how the original poster is doing? My experience... My sleep was absolutely terrible for years. At the same time I was diagnosed with celiac, I had blood tests for vitamin D3 levels. I was...
  23. I have been Glutened more times by Trader Joe's products than any other store. I remember being excited when my local Trader Joe's put up a big banner a year or two ago to let customers know about that their new dedicated Trader Joe's gluten-free logo and labeling. A staff member informed me there had even been staff training sessions. Because I trusted...
  24. I just discovered Tropicana Trop 50 orange juice contains "mixed tocopherols". I have read a little about Tocopherol as an ingredient in skin care products, and how it can sometime be derived from wheat. But I've never come across it in a food or beverage before. Has anyone become sick after drinking it?
  25. Thanks for responding, I emailed the manufacturer today, I will post what they say when I hear back. I've narrowed it down to one of two things making me so sick... 1) Humboldt creamery fat free cottage cheese, or... 2) also discovered my cleaning lady has been using products containing ammonia and bleach together! The two times I got sick...
