  1. Dynasty makes a gluten-free hoisin sauce and there are others -- I just can't remember the brand names off the top of my head. Just check the ingredients. Hoisin sauce is awesome. I add it to sauteed beef with brocolli and sometimes I just dip stuff in it straight out of the jar/bottle. Aaaand this is what drives me insane about Rachael Ray. Warning...
  2. Hasselbeck is just as dumb. She once said that if gays were allowed to marry each other then people would start marrying their toasters. Um, yeah. I've always wanted to marry my Black and Decker Toaster Oven but thank god the Christian Right is saving me from myself! Rumor has it that Hasselbeck is really only on The View (as the "conservative voice...
  3. Ugh! I hate Applebees. My stepfather (who used to be quite the gourmand) is going to weight watchers and now, because Applebees has those WW-approved meals, he insists on going there all the time. I understand where he's coming from -- it's nice to have a place to eat where your dietary considerations are taken into account (!) -- but why did Applebees...
  4. Since we're all talking about The Simpsons, is anyone else doing a Nelson "HA-hah!" over this? I mean I don't wish any gastrointestinal disease on Jessica or anything. I just find it so deliciously amusing that Pizza Hut's main spokesperson can't even eat their product. It's just...funny. Plus it's nice that we actually might have a real celebrity...
  5. Are you sure that's such a good suggestion? I'm sorry -- there's no easy way to say this, but if I ran a company and got one of Lizzy's letters with all of those run-on sentences that go on forever and practically no punctuation whatsoever, I'd assume the person who wrote it was crazy and I'd throw it in the trash. Unfortunately I agree with CeliaCruz,...
  6. If this woman had enough handcream on her hands to leave a residual smell on your glass, she also left a visible set of fingerprints on the rim. That's all you need. Hold it up to the light and tell a manager that your glass is dirty and you need a fresh drink. The manager will see the telltale fingerprints and realize that your waitress is mishanding...
  7. He asked for opinions about what to do as a Catholic. Not whether or not he should be a Catholic. Nor did he ask what non-Catholics think of his religion. If you don't agree with his beliefs. Fine. But there's no need to be insulting. I don't see how that helps anyone "cope" with anything. And where did ANYONE on this board ever suggest that we...
  8. Aren't there any moderators on this board? This discussion has been off topic for quite some time and I am shocked at the level of disrespect that some people have been resorting to. I'm agnostic but I would never insult someone's religion. (It's called manners!?!?!) And likewise, I would never expect anyone to lecture me on what is happening to me in...
  9. I feel your pain! (No seriously! I do! I'm literally typing this on my laptop while I sit on the toilet!) The thing to keep in mind is that people often talk about anxiety and paranoia as if it's an irrational reaction to something harmless. Yet there's nothing irrational about what we're going through -- and nothing "harmless" about what we fear....
  10. Less than 1%. To me, that's rare. This is all starting to sound like that song in Team America: Everybody has AIDS, AIDS, AIDS!!! I know it's tempting to see Celiac everywhere because it effects our own lives so dramatically, but on the grand scale of things it's not that common. Instead of trying to convince ourselves that everyone suffers from...
  11. I was talking to my psychiatrist yesterday -- I see her for depression and ADD -- and I mentioned that I had recently discovered that I most likely suffer from celiac...and that would explain the ADD, depression, leg pain, digestive problems, skin problems etc. It was funny, she looked at her notes, saw that indeed I had mentioned suffering from diarreah...
  12. That's how I feel: that before I went off gluten, my body was being poisoned so much that my immune system had to "pick battles" and only react to the really important sensitivities. Now that I don't eat gluten, my body is WAY more sensitive to things...even some new things. It can feel like we're getting "sicker" but we're actually getting better. I...
  13. I feel that my body can tell the difference between a tiny amount of gluten and a larger one. When I eat a fair amount of gluten accidentally -- I misread a label or make a stupid assumption about a food that seems safe etc. -- I get a variety of symptoms which plague me for a while. My face breaks out, I get sores in my mouth, I have crazy "D", my limbs...
  14. Cute dog, Viola! I am having all of these problems with my downstairs neighbor. Noise. Leaky pipes. He needs access sometimes to my apartment in order to fix his cable etc. We just don't get along and there are these things that come up in my building that make it a necessity to deal with him and it's all so difficult and frustrating. So the other...
