I have narcolepsy and went gluten free 5 years ago before I knew I had narcolepsy. I have the susceptibility gene for celiac which turns out to overlap with the one for narcolepsy. I don't have antibodies to test positive for Celiac, But gluten gave me migraines and I was losing bone density fast despite being on estrogen until I went gluten free. So I don... -

Susceptibility to celiac disease and narcolepsy share a common genotype. HLA DQB1 that are heterozygotes and have *03:01 and *06:02 are susceptible to narcolepsy. If they have DQB1 *03:01 and *06:02 and DQA1*03 as well that all together is DQ8 one of the susceptible genotypes for Celiac Disease. So it's very likely that many of you have this combination...
