I too am a fitness instructor and presenter - I teach as many as 15 classes per week. When I get glutened and my belly swells up and I feel exhausted - I find it very difficult to strap on my microphone belt (my poor swollen belly), let alone teach a class. I also found that my bladder is ultra-sensitive when I get glutened, I have trouble doing any running...

ARCHIVED Fatigue And Sprue
Robix replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there, Sorry for scaring you - it was unintentional - I should have been more specific (I just assume everyone knows the difference between pernicious anemia and vitamin deficiency, when really, its so rare, most doctors don't quite understand it! LOL! I forget I'm not talking to myself!). Pernicious anemia is a disease, it is the body's inability... -

Hi Amy, It took me a few years to get the guts to self-inject and most of the time my boyfriend does it for me. I found my injections were more regular when I could take 2 minutes at home rather than 3 hours or longer to get it done by a doctor. At your next appointment you can get your doctor to give someone close to you the "injection 101" demonstration... -

Robix replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there, Fatigue is probably related to the malabsorption of nutrients - in which case you may be deficient in one main nutrient, or multiple nutrients. You can have this checked in 10 minutes at a health clinic (its a simple hemaglobin test). You should ask them to check Iron, Folate, B-serums (not just B12 but the whole B panel) and magnesium to... -

Hello, Did you know that as many as 70% of adults are magnesium deficient and that magnesium is a key hormonal regulator? Many people who have weight problems find it easier to lose the weight once their magnesium intake issues are adressed. However, according to a lecturer (an endocrinologist) at my last recertification conference, magnesium deficiency...

My sports nutritionist recomends soaking all fruits in veggies for one hour in a solution of white vinigar and water to take all the wax/pesticides/coatings off of the skins. Might be a good place to start, just in case. I was very depressed reading this - I live off of fruits and veggies. Ack! I am pretty confident the soaking with vinigar...

Hey Dessa, Didn't see if anyone answered this post already, but yes there is a direct co-relation between deep sleep (or lack of it rather) and fat retention. The growth hormone called Cortisol (which regulates tissue building, repair and fat elimination) is only released during the deep sleep cycle. Why? Its a survival of the fittest protection response...

ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?
Robix replied to tiffjake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey guys, I am a gemini and have pernicious anemia, and (I think) celiac disease. Plus am a woman, with the typical PMS mood-swings, plus am a single mom....plus plus plus.... Welcome to the emotional roller-coaster ride! I feel a bit happier and "even-tempered" off of gluten though - so of course, from now on I will be "blaming it on gluten" or... -

I know this trip is with your 14 year old - but the Oyster bar (hope you like seafood!) in Grand Central Station is an institution! Its been there forever, the ambiance is really cool in a checkered table cloth and diner kind of way - and of course, the seafood is amazing (and naturally gluten free! Just don't eat the crackers!). I LOVE that place - its...

I am actually launching my online services in the fall (complete with a video series! am very excited about this!) but don't mind giving people on the board a helping hand from time to time, given that I actually take away so much free advice from the community. I love the information I get here, and unfortunately, the only expertise I can contribute is...

Hi Nicole - am a mom too (and suspect my son also has celiac disease). I agree with everyone here, sounds like a growth spurt and sounds like he is perhaps catching up (so sounds normal - yeah!). But also noticed that your son kept asking for carbs (part of my professional background is in sports nutrition) which would trigger an insulin response in anyone... -

I teach daily, I teach a morning class, a mid-day class and an evening class, on top of taking martial arts on my own time. I...

Hi there, Am a fitness instructor, I teach about 3 hours of cardio per day, and run about 25 miles per week also (the running is for my own head-clearing time - the teaching I do for others, plus am a bit addicted to adrenaline and endorphins).
