  1. Doll, I call it my Celiac Belly! Diagnosed over a year ago, I've only gained 5 or so pounds but it's all in my belly! What a HUGE relief to hear of others with this problem. I don't eat very many processed foods, and I've heard that rices and potatos are "high glycemic" starches that cause belly fat - is this what you are saying too? Aside from eliminating rices and potatos completely, is there any other option? Ooh, and I've just eliminated soy milk from my diet, feeling MUCH better - is soy milk high in fat perhaps? Sign me Still Struggling After a Year
  2. Oh my gosh! I thought I was losing my mind! I too cheated just a smidgen this past weekend and since then I've had headaches, crying jags, moodiness, depression, you name it. And to think that twice in the past 10 years I was diagnosed with depression, when maybe it was gluten! Stress brings this on a little, but after reading everyone's testimonials, I'm actually relieved. I thought I was getting the flu with the achiness and crying. Xanax has helped, but those dang Hallmark commercials get me every time!
  3. Luksusowa and Chopan are good potato vodkas. Nurse at my GI's office (also celiac) says Skyy and Smirnoff vodkas are safe, too.
  4. Carnegie here! Diagnosed in July, and very obsessed with it. The store you're looking for is Good Life on Banksville Road. Every third Thursday they offer a 10% discount on gluten-free items. I have found other Giant Eagle's that have gluten-free items that even the Upper St. Clair bigger-better-whatever store does NOT have. Did anyone know that some of Emeril's products are gluten-free? I haven't tried them yet, but I hear they're tasty. Also, Trader Joe's is opening in Lawrenceville at the end of this month (over 300 gluten-free items they say), and Mt. Lebanon is considering a Trader Joe's also. Bravo's in the Galleria Mall in Mt. Lebanon can make a gluten-free pasta meal, I hear you need to call Jan the Manager before you go. And as far as joining Pghceliacs, I just received a message that the director does not have time for support groups right now. They do have good information on other events in the area though. Hope this helps! Of course you know about Outback and the chocolate thunder down under? Flour free brownie. Yummy. I had a VERY GOOD experience with Outback, very knowledgeable waitresses, too. Does anyone know of any bars that sell the Bards Tale beer? I'd rather socialize in public than drink beer at home!
  5. Try plain white rice. It usually clears me right up.
  6. Sissy, I'm new too. I've found EnviroKids breakfast bars are pretty good. Like eating a rice krispie treat for breakfast in the car on my way to work. Their cereal isn't too bad, either. I was diagnosed 4 months ago, and I'm a wreck with it. Haven't cheated either. Still having trouble with sleeping, but no more night sweats. I'm blessed with friends who care, but the holidays will be scary food-wise.
