Just new to this whole Celiacs thing. Just joined to get tips on food, places to avoid, places to go, and just advice.

  1. , Uh oh, This is my first Thanksgiving as a "celiac-er" (thats what I like to call it) This is BY FAR, my favorite holiday, but crud.... how do I survive this one? can anyone give me tips on things that contain gluten , that I wouldnt expect? I know, no buns for me and no packaged gravy .
  2. pack it with some rice and or mashed potatoes. Potatoes are now your friend.
  3. Once I was diagnosed I went thru my cupboard and saw that [i]everything[/i] i had for side dishes was packed with gluten... So I took my happy self, (and my credit card) to Spouts , whole foods and sunflower markets. I was extremely surprised by Whole Foods tiny section of Gluten free products. (and the price too- ouch) Spouts is much much cheaper...
  4. I use (brand) Kinnikwick (i think thats how you spell it) bread/bun mix. Its an all purpose mix , just 3 parts mix , 3 parts water. And it comes in a nice big bag so you can make as little or as much as you want. Its good for making hamburger buns, hot dog buns and some quick bread.
