ARCHIVED Ordered Tests From Endolab
mart replied to Sandi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ours was in the freezer when the DHL guy picked it up. He asked me if there were flowers in the box! -
ARCHIVED Oscar Mayer "naturals"
mart replied to VioletBlue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We love these products. We've tried the lunch meats and the bacon. They're awesome. The bacon is quite delicious and the kids are greatful to be able to eat bacon more often, now that it doesn't contain the sodium nitrate. It doesn't fry up the same for some reason. It doesn't cook as evenly - I don't know why. But anyway, it's great. I didn't know... -
Melody, sorry about your hyperemisis gravidarium. I had the same thing with my first pregnancy and was fed through a central line in a hospital all the way until my second trimester. What a nightmare! Few people understand how horrible this condition is. I remember wishing I would die when I had this. But congratulations! You were quite brave to go...

ARCHIVED Best Kind Of Bread?
mart replied to Amanda L's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We like the Gluten Free Pantry's Favorite Sandwich Bread. Don't bother making it in the bread machine. Make it right in the oven. It slices well, freezes well and tastes pretty great. -
ARCHIVED Home Schooling?
mart replied to hannahsue01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry for the problem your little one is having. We home school our children. We use the K12 curriculum, a quality, advanced, award-winning program. I love it, and so do they. They have plenty of friends they spend time with, so they are well socialized. And they get individual attention, so they are getting a first-rate education. Every lesson... -
ARCHIVED Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food For Kids
mart replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Guhlia, do you like this cook book a lot? I've been thinking about buying it. -
ARCHIVED Barbecue Sauces

Where do you guys buy the Sweet Baby Ray's brand? Is it in a regular grocery store, or a specialty store like Wild Oats? I'd love to try it. -
ARCHIVED What Are You Craving For?
mart replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wish I had some crispy, yet greasy, KFC fried chicken right now. The wing is my favorite (orig. recipe)...with the biscuit...mmmmmm -
ARCHIVED Ian's gluten-free Corn Dogs
mart replied to chawk310's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mamaw, how are the S'Better Farms corn dogs? Are they worth ordering? As for Ians, I'm pretty disappointed with their chicken nuggets and fish sticks. They don't taste like anything! Even when you add tons of salt. -
Hi everyone. I've been gone for a while because we took our first gluten-free vacation out of the country. We rented a gorgeous villa in Turks & Caicos with a private beach. We snorkeled in gorgeous coral reefs in just 2 feet of water right outside our door. We packed some gluten-free food (like pasta) and bought the rest at an IGA grocery store....

ARCHIVED Results Are Back From My Capsule Endoscopy!
mart replied to Sis's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sis, what did the doctor tell you about the findings? Did he seem concerned at all? Maybe it's no big deal(hopefully). Also, how do you know your pain is unrelated to your celiac? Lots of celiacs are gluten-free and still have pain. Quick question: what was that capsule endoscopy like? The doc wants to do one on my son, but he's only 8! -
Wow, this is great. I hope my kids get to that level soon. I don't have celiac, but I am gluten free for their sake. When I pass cakes, donuts, etc. at the store, I now cringe as if it were poison. A year ago, I would have never believed it was possible since I am the JUNK FOOD QUEEN.

Awesome.

ARCHIVED Old Friend Said We Can't Come Over
mart replied to mart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks again everyone. You are TRUE friends. P.S. Yeah, don't ever turn to food for comfort when you are down. The next day, you just wake up fat. -
We've failed miserably with our attempts. We must have tried 50 different recipes. The rice flour ones were like bricks. The bean flour breads were soft but tasted gross. I just gave up and we eat either the Kinnickinnik bread of Jillian's French gluten-free bread. So this huge, expensive breadmaker just sits up on our counter taking up precious space...

ARCHIVED Gain Weight On Gluten-free Foods? Is This Possible?
mart replied to blondeambition's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Coconut milk, condensed milk and macadamia nuts are extremely fattening. Also, all ice-creams are not created equal. Haagen Daz is the most fattening one I've ever found (about twice the fat of other ice-creams). P.S. Don't worry too much if you don't gain right away. From experience, I can tell you that your metabolism may be to blame, and not necessarily... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
mart replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tanya, we're here, praying for Meg and you. Wishing all goes smoothly. I know some docs are afraid of TPN for her now, but if she could have it - even for a short while, it makes all the difference in the world. Please let us know the test results as soon as you have a free minute. Again, we're all here praying. -
lol, you guys are hilarious. I love living creatures so much, I thought I was alone in this. If I'd have to hunt for my food, I'd surely starve! I always think I'll end up vegetarian, but I'm already 40. When does one "end up?"

Thanks Jessica. I'm sure I'll be paying a high price for this wreckless and irresponsible feeding frenzy tomorrow. Food is highly comforting. -
ARCHIVED Old Friend Said We Can't Come Over
mart replied to mart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
To drown out my sorrow, I just had a whole box of Enjoy Life Snickerdoodles with a tall glass of colde milk. I feel better now. -
ARCHIVED Really Good Pasta
mart replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gotta get me some of that. Is it better than the Tinkyada brand? BTW, don't bother getting Tinkyada's penne. It's nowhere near as good as their spaghetti. What a disappointment. -
ARCHIVED Natural Tostitos Chips Warning
mart replied to MSU's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tostitos are not made/prepared in a dedicated facility. Most foods we eat are not (like ice-cream, cheese, taco shells, meats (some add flavorings to ground meats), cereals, etc. Some foods we eat are from dedicated facilities (such as Enjoy Life, Pamela's, Kinnickinnik, Gluten Free Pantry). But these are hard to find. I know I've looked hard into finding... -
ARCHIVED Old Friend Said We Can't Come Over
mart replied to mart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still pretty shocked about this response, but I guess I'm just so sad because I feel like it's my children that have been rejected. I hope they'll encounter more decent people than this throughout their lives. You're all right. This person wasn't really my friend. At the same time, I guess I am pretty lucky. Look at all the caring responses... -
ARCHIVED Help Need A Gluten Free Recipe For A Birthday Cake For A 3 Year Old
mart replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi. Happy birthday to your little girl. I don't like to make cake from scratch because I make such a huge mess in the kitchen. So we use mixes. I agree that Pamela's Chocolate Cake is the best gluten-free cake I've had. My sister is a baker and we had her over recently for a barbecue. I made this cake and added a cup of sour cream (it's an option...
