Taking The Gluten Out Of My House

My computer illiteracy is hurting my head...I'm not even sure if I'm blogging on my own blog or I'm making a comment on my blog as myself right now...oh well, I'm not exactly dumb I just have a life outside of my computer and have never bothered to figure it out.

Yesterday I spent the day freeing my house of Gluten. This was particularly hard for me. I'm sure it's hard for everyone, but I spend a lot of my free time cooking, baking from scratch and just coming up with recipes. I designed my own kitchen so it's huge and full of space for socializing; it's the gathering place for everyone when they are over. I know that sounds strange but I believe that people naturally migrate to the warmest part of a house and for me that is my kitchen. My mom called me in the midst of my boxing stuff up for charity. Sad to say my normal 'we can do this troops lets get through it as a team' attitude was in shambles. Of course my mom's timing is always the best and I had my 5 year old well seasoned baking stone in my hand and was putting in a box to forever say goodbye.

I broke down and cried it's been a while since I've done that I'm not much of a crier. It's funny I had no issues reading every label of everything I had in my pantry, spice rack Freezer and Refrigerator, but when it came to that baking stone I just lost it. I guess a person can only take so much. My mom's cheerful it's going to be okay honey attitude helped some. Her promise that she'd take the baking stone and use it as much as she could helped allot more.

My mom can be such a since of encouragement sometimes. She secretly confessed to me that she's been having issues with gluten for years and needed to go off it herself, but loves to eat so much she just can bring herself to do it. It's so silly why would you eat something that constantly made you sick? Is food that important? I say this now but we'll see how long it takes for me to break down.

By the end of the phone call with my mom I decided to bake some cookies. My favorite kind of cookie is molasses, so I sucked it all up and put my all into making a batch. Turns out you can bake without wheat. I don't think my cookies where on par with what I normally put out, however I baked up a whole batch and went to my mom's house where we were having a family gathering of sorts, I snuck and put them in the middle of the table without letting anyone know I baked them. By the end of the night there were no cookies left and everyone had come back for seconds. I have always gotten an extreme amount of pleasure from cooking for people, I have to admit by the end of the night there was a little burst of joy in my heart that I can still bake and it would still be enjoyed, weather people had a gluten intolerance or not.

Now my new challenge today, going over to a friends house for game night, he doesn't eat meat, before I'd always bake him something I'm racking my brain to come up with what I want to bring that both he and I can eat. Of course I could always do a salad or a fruit dip...but where is the challenge in that?
