Dupuytren's Contraction(dew-pwee-trawns

Mosaics

My mom, who has celiac disease (and passed it on to her children) just found out today that she has Dupuytren's Contraction (dew-pwee-TRAWNS). Of course, I'm wondering if there is some connection between the two. I've been searching the net and found one other celiac site in which two people with celiac disease also have Dupuytren's. Otherwise, I haven't found any other information linking them.

I'd be glad to hear from anyone who has any info about that.

Here's a site that tells a little about Dupuytren's:

Mom's doctor basically told her that there was nothing they could do except for hand surgery but that it wouldn't be worth it at her age and because she had a mastectomy on that side because of breast cancer. They said it might start edema in her hand, which would be miserable. She's just 67. I told her that being 67 doesn't mean she has one foot in the grave and doesn't care about having the use of her hand anymore! Idiot doctors.

Anyway, the site I posted is one that I came across in my search and, if the doctor knows what he's talking about, there actually is an alternative to hand surgery. I'm glad to know about it because whether or not my mother wants help, I sure will if I ever get it. Oh yeah, its genetic. Yea. <_<

Can't wait to see what other diseases run in my family. I'm surprised my body doesn't explode.
