I Shot The Sheriff!

A former date, pursuer, wooer, love interest, whatever you may call him. the deputy sheriff.

Aside:::I have lots of dating rules. Here's one: I don't date doctors, lawyers, self-employed, unemployed, salesmen, pilots, or law enforcement.

But, I never say never, either. Upon my new 2005 freedom, I pledged to date one of everything. And. I. Did.

So. Back 2 sheriff story.

We were set up by his EX wife. Yeah, how d'ya like them apples?

I agreed last fall, partially because I knew it'd be a great story, but mostly because:

#1--she is a substitute teacher (translation: I don't work with her regularly, imagine the averted drama here)

#2 It kinda made sense to me because she is MY EXACT OPPOSITE: She's dark complected, a mom, built like a linebacker, ditzy as all getout (she'll notice a confused look on your face while she's talking and ask, what did I say? and you'll tell her and she'll be like, did I say that? oh! AND when I said I'd gotten a pedicure, she picked up my hands and started evaluating them...need I say more?)oh, and she's really sweet and laid back. So NOT me. And if they had issues, maybe he and I'd get along since i'm her opposite. makes sense to me.

#3 She described him as not liking sports or guns or trucks (obsessions almost ALL of my exes share--my girlfriends chide me heavily if I date anyone who owns a truck--it's often the first question they'll ask a dude if they see one speaking to me when we're out...my theory is that I'm not drawn toward men who are like my brothers: Norwegian, skinny, hairy, fair, and nontruckin--I like 'em tall, dark, and thick, accents are a bonus.) The sheriff is blanco. so blanco.

Anyway, we had a four hour dinner and it was really fun. He is so non-cop-like. He had good stories about the meat-heads he works with. He is genuine and kind and without game and un-fussy. However, he told me he had issues with phone calls (he was a text message maniac--one day this inspired me to use MY phone to send him a picture of himself in his uniform, with the reggae song I shot the sheriff playing- much to his shock!). He said his family was always annoyed with him for not keeping plans and that was his undoing with me: he kind of stood me up one day. I was shocked since it was the first for me. But, I guess he'd kinda warned me. His loss. I texted him that it was done.

Fastforward four months, the girls I work with are setting up our own girlie plans and we are inviting the sub (his ex) and they don't have the right phone # for her and so I call him, figuring he's working in his cop car and I'd leave a message, but he picked up and was audibly HAPPY and so we're going out tomorrow. He is just so NICE. Plus, he bought a truck AFTER we met.
