  1. I guess I am starting up an old post. I am going to my brothers tomorrow, in Gilbertsville, and we are leaving early Sat. to spend the day in Cape May. From reading all of your posts, which have been extremely helpful, we have decided to try the Belle Vida. Maybe I will have a chance to try the gluten-free bread. What a nice treat to have in a restraunt. I thought those days were over!!!!! I was hoping someone might give us an idea of where the restraunt is located. That will give us more time for shopping and hitting the water!!! I will write back and let you know how the weekend went. Also a Pennsylvanian, from the Williamsport area, I was wondering if anyone has shopped at the Gluten Free Source located in Dillsburg. I was hoping to find out if it was worth the trip. We are going a bit out of our way while traveling to Gilbertsville and eating at the Powerhouse Eatery. I was told they will accomadate the Gluten Free diet. I believe that the owner's wife has celiac. I will update everyone on that as well. I greatly appreciate this post and hope I can find directions before we take off. Nice chatting with everyone. Kimberly
  2. I am going to be visitng Cape May, NJ this weekend and I was hoping someone could give me an idea of safe places to eat out at. I thought this was already discussed, but I couldn't find the topic. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!!
  3. Thank you everyone for all of your help. We have gone to Hershey Park many times, but I have never needed to worry about special food. This makes the idea of going sound much more fun. I can enjoy myself if I don't need to worry about where I will eat and how I will feel. Kim
  4. Hi, I am going to be going to Hershey Park very soon, in the next month or so. I was hoping someone would be able to give me an idea of what I can eat there. This is our first visit since my diaganosis. We always get the Pizza, but that is out!!! Never really looked around at the other items since the pizza was so good. Thanks to anyone that is able to help me. Kim
  5. I just tried the June Special. Whoopie pies, tandy cakes, bread, pizza crusts, snickerdoodles, chocolate chip cookeies, blueberry muffins and coffee cake muffins. It is hard to say which is the best. I have also tried the iced brownies. Eveything was incredible. I love, love, love the tandy cakes, the whoopie pies are incrediable as is the chocolate chip cookies, and iced brownies. Just got it a few days ago, and I am trying not to devour it. Still have the muffins, bread and pizza crusts. If there is any way to work it out and try it, you will not be sorry. I have also bought the flour mix and just use my regular recipes and replace enriched flour with the GF4 me flour. Can't tell a difference. Made it for a church gathering and everyone ranted and raved. I had not told anyone it was gluten-free. You should have seen everyones face. They had thought the gluten-free meant no taste. They were very impressed. I am once again in charge of desserts. I highy suggest trying the products. I love sweets and I am so happy to have somehting normal agian. Now I have to be careful not to order to often or the pounds would just keep adding up!!!!

  7. Just hoping this will help you out. My rash first appeared about 10 years ago, in the last trimester of my pregnancy. It was terrible. So very itchy I would wake up at night. It was on my thighs and across my belly. I went to a dermatologist and he told me it was PUPP- a pregnancy rash and it would disappear shortly after her birth. Several months and it finally disappeared, but just off and on I would have the bumps appear on my hands and would joke with my husband "look I am pregnant- I have the pregnancy rash." It did not break out terribley and did not cause much itching. Just kind of put up with it breaking out off and on. Then about 4 years ago, I tried the South Beach Diet where you take all wheat and flour and carbs out of your diet for two to three weeks and then slowly bring the healthy carbs back into your diet. It recommened Wheat bread and wheat pasta. And the rash began and so did the spending of so much money I don't want to think about it. The itching was so horrible I couldn 't stand it, and sleep was pretty close to impossible. Many dr. appts, many over the counter and prescription creams and antibiotics. No help. Like you, it would come and go. Have it for a few months and it would clear up and then would slowly begin to break out again, and then it seemed to spread and be worse than before. After about 4 years of this, my GI issues began and slowly but surely a diagnosis. Still, two biopsies- one skin and one endoscope biopsies were negative. Luckly my dermatologist was determined it was class book case of dermatis herpetaformis. She didn't give up and I had a second endoscope done with a differend dr and hospital that specializes in Celiac disease. With him I had a positive diagnosis. It was about 4 years of the rash off and on and terrible terrible itching and then when they popped, they would break open. Mine did not look like online pictures either, but I have responded very well with a three month gluten-free diet and 50 mg of dapsone. I wish everyone luck and a quicker diagnosid than I had.
  8. I went through the same symptoms. I see a specialist for my migraines, and I mentioned to her that they were much more severe when I began my Gluten Free diet. I was having them every day for several weeks. When I first told her about my diagnosis, she thought when I went gluten free they would discontinue, hence my extreme confusion when they worsened. One was so bad I ended up calling the Dr. on call. This man was a dr. I never met and I mentioned that I thought it could be withdrawl. He actually laughed. I was very angry and if I wasn't in so much pain, he would have heard from me. I immediately called and made a follow up appt with my dr. and she told me that when the body goes trough any changes, people prone to have headaches will react. It is a sort of withdrawl. After about two months of being gluten free, the migraines have settled down. I also experienced the mood swings and nausea. God bless my husband, he has really been patient. I experienced terrible sweating, dreaming and brain fog when I had been glutened. I didn't really notice that as I went gluten free, but by that time I was so miserable, who knows. I try to block it all out and just move on. My sleep, even three months into a gluten free diet is terrible. Like you, snowcovered heart, I had managed just about 5 hours. I have tried just about everything over the counter. Tylenol PM, simply sleep, even bought mellatonin. NO HELP!!! I mentioned it to the Dr. that diagnosed me and he gave me a prescription of trazodone. It is suppose to help restore natural sleeping habits . I think, and don't quote me, that it gives the brain seratonin, which is suppose to help with sleeping. It is non habit forming and he said I can take it as long as needed. It is the best thing I have tried. The first week, I had about 8 hours. Now I am averaging 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 hours. That is much better than 4-5 hours. And if I wake up, I feel droggy and immediatley fall back asleep. That is new to me, as before, if I woke up after being asleep, it was at least two hours before I could even try to get to sleep. Since beginning this med. I have noticed I am not nearly as moody. Sleep makes an incrediable difference. I hope some of this has helped. Good luck. I hope things begin to get better for you.
  9. Nicole After I reread my post, I realized I didn't word it quite correctly. They double $1 coupons and tripple the $1 coupons during the week that the tripplers are in the paper. Sorry for any confusion! Kimberly
  10. Nicole, Thank you so mcuh. I will be up later this upcoming week and plan on hitting both places and Giant. Did you know that Giant doubles $1 items and Tripples them when there are tripplers in the paper. Just thought I'd let you know. It is really a nice savings, makes the 45 minute trip worth it and we are always up for the Penn State football games, although usually tailgating instead of shopping. We just run in and pick up a few items if we have time. Again Thanks so much for your help. I can't wait to have Chinese again!!!! Kimberly
  11. Nicole, Could you please give me an idea of where Nature's Pantry is located. I have heard about them, and someone tried to give me directions, but I just couldn't figure it out. I am familiar with the mall, Both giants, both Weis, and the Target Complex. I have heard that they sell gluten4me poducts. I have sampled many of her items and they are fantastic. I just ordered her July special and it is incrediable. It would be nice to pick up a few items at a time and freeze them and avoid paying shipping. Also thanks for the mention of the other restraunts. I will be heading to the Gamble Mill Tavern soon, and the Chinese restraunt that is Gluten free will answer some prayers. I tried our local chinese and ended up very sick. He told me as best he could that the soy sauce was gluten free and for all else he uses corn starch. No matter, I was extremely sick. I can't wait to pick some up after shopping and go home with supper. That is downtown, could you also give me directions for that. I think that will be my Sunday Supper!!!!!! Thanks a million for all of your help. Kimberly
  12. I live about 45 min from State College and do a lot of my shopping there. There is an Outback Steakhouse off the Toftree's exit that is very good. They have a gluten-free menu and also have the flourless dessert that is such a treat. I have also eaten at the Ponderossa with a lot of sucess. They do not have a gluten free menu, but the manager was very helpful and brought out the ingredient list so I could check out the butter sauce that they use. It was safe. I usually get a steak and grilled shrimp with a baked potato and butter. Then I eat off the buffet. I usually get their corn, green beans, cooked carrots and a salad. I have never reacted. I also get a sundae with some toppings. I have tried eating at Hoss's and did not make out well. I know that beffets can be off limits, but Ponderossa has done well for me. Hope I was able to help. There is a Wegmans and a Giant as mentioned before and they have great organic sections with a lot of selections. Good luck and goooooooo Nitany LIONS!!!

  15. Christy, I greatly appreciate your help. I am really nervous about what to eat. I really don't want to spend my vacation sick. You mentioned doing a search on the ICORS listserv. I am not sure how to do that. Would you be willing to give me some more information? Thanks so much. Kimberly
