Gluten Is Everywhere!
I just wanted to send this statement out there to everyone and anyone interested... I hope it's helpful! I hesitated about posting on this site for over a year now, what with Doctors posting here, and other "professional" people on the site. I'm not any doctor, or professional anything... I'm a person with Celiac disease though, and I'm slowly becoming a professional at that!
Celiac.com Sponsor (A13):
I guess I never posted before because I didn't think anyone would believe me as what I have to say goes against what the FDA states is true. But, I know now that I am not imagining things, What I've learned is so true it makes me mad! I want everyone to know this! I'm not bashing the FDA... quite the contrary. I'm inviting them to join in and comment for themselves... Can they really prove that the Gluten molecule is too large to pass through the skin?
That's what I was told in the beginning. "Don't worry about anything you don't put into your mouth", they said. HA!
Since being diagnosed on August 29, 2008, I have continually removed gluten from my life on an ongoing effort to remain gluten-free. It's not easy! And, although the FDA states gluten can not pass through the skin, I am proof that it can. I believe others will benefit from what I have found, too. So, here it is...
I used to get little blister-type bumps on my legs, which was "diagnosed" as razor burn. Stop shaving for a week or so, I was told. It didn't help. I was amazed to find that my razors had gluten in the gel-strip! That meant that I was heating up my skin in the shower and opening the pores with the hot water, then slicing off the top of the skin with the razors blade and literally injecting gluten directly into my system with the following gel-strip. What a kick! The razors worked great, and if you don't have a gluten intolerance, I highly recommend them. However, if you are a Celiac, I suggest you avoid any razor with a gel-strip. Now, I never put this razor in my mouth, but clearly, the gluten passes through the skin here.
The next thing that blew me away was the stain sealer in my carpet. I took a nap on the floor, (I love a hard surface to sleep on!), and couldn't understand why my condition worsened so quickly. I figured it out! it was the stain sealer on my carpet. The FDA says no, the gluten in that wouldn't effect me! But it did - and it wasn't because I put it in my mouth! It went through my skin.
I found another source of gluten that really hit me after my eyelashes fell out, (all but about 6 on each eye). I contacted the manufacturer of my new mascara and found that it contained gluten. It took five months for my eyelashes to grow back! From what I hear, I'm lucky they did grow back! Again, I didn't have to stick this mascara brush in my mouth before I used it on my eyelashes!
Another find was when I went from wearing my rubber flip-flops every day to my tennis shoes. Again, I found myself so ill I was in bed for 2 days. I did some more research and found that the foam and adhesive in my shoes contained gluten. This is the shoe that I have my medical alert tag on that reads "Severe Gluten Allergy"! I discovered that Vans, Keds, and Crocs are all gluten-free. Keds even sells a gluten-free Awareness shoe!
There's more... so much more!
If anyone out there is new to becoming Gluten Free, please contact me if you want more information on my findings. I want to share with the world what I have found for myself. It appalls me that the FDA states the Gluten molecule is too large to pass through the skin. I have such severe reactions to the stuff they say can't pass through my skin!
I might be able to help someone out there! Please contact me so I can tell you all I have learned, so you don't have to go through it yourself! It's not just what you EAT!
