The Support I'm Finding Is Amazing

It's getting easier. But then again, it's only the 3rd day. But having a completely gluten-free day yesterday, I realized how much better I felt. I wasn't as gassy during the day, I had more energy, and I wasn't rushing to the bathroom (well, I was, but that was because of all the coffee I drank, not because of something I ate!).

While I haven't been diagnosed as a Celiac, I'm beginning to think that I might be, based on the more I read and all the symptoms I fit (to be truthful, I was worried about the fatty stools I've been having), and the fact that I feel better not eating gluten!

What's amazing me more is all the support I'm finding. Yesterday at work, my manager decided he was going to buy us lunch because we were short-staffed. The other girls decided on pizza, and when I asked if it would be ok if I got a salad instead, and explained why, my manager was completely understanding and said his mom was the same way. We talked about it for about 20 minutes, and he was completely supportive.

My boyfriend and I went out to dinner with some friends last night, and hopped the border over to Windsor. We went to a very good restaurant, and it was so hard not to partake in the breadsticks and other yummy-looking appetizers. But I was good. I was worried about getting an alcoholic beverage, since I don't know what's safe, and beer is completely out - even though a real Canadian Labatt sounded so delicious! I stuck to water until one of the people we were with ordered a Mike's Hard Lemonade, and the conversation of how it was made different in Canada. It's 7% alcohol, and not made of malt liquor! The ones in the US are little more than flavored beer. It was made of vodka, lemonade, various "acids," dyes, etc. And even better, it didn't upset my tummy. The other girl we were out with was a vegetarian, so I picked her brain about how she got her fibers and protein and stuff, even though I have no plan on giving up meat, too!

My bf's best friend was very supportive too, and no jokes were made, like I thought he might do. He ordered lemon drops, instead of some other alcoholic shots he could have, and didn't joke when I ordered a hamburger without a bun.

I still need to do some research, but I'm trying to be smart about my eating.

I think the only person who didn't quite understand was my bf's step-mom, who seemed a little put aside when I declined dessert of can oles, refused seconds of the lasagna, and picked out the croutons in my salad. But that's ok, she always seems a little put back. I don't know why.

I may not be so lucky with dinner tonight at the bf's mom's, but that's ok. I will live.
