  1. Thanks for letting me know. I've been taking these meds for 8 days and I haven't noticed any change at all.
  2. Is that working for you? I've been Gluten free for about 6 months and I've been experiencing vertigo for about 4.5 weeks now. I went to the doctor last week and they noted the nystagmus with my eye movements and suggested that it's related to allergies (pollen appears to be very high this season). They gave me some allergy medicine and Antivert, but so far I've not experienced any change in my symptoms.
  3. My parents (bless them) sent me a package of eatright Gingerchoc cookies and I must say that they were delicious. The only problem is that the closest Wholefoods market is quite a distance from where I live. Are there any other stores that carry their products or can someone point me to a reasonable facsimile? Thanks.
  4. You're going to need to decontaminate. Go through your kitchen and collect and dispose of anything containing Wheat, Rye or Barley (that includes Rice Krispies cereal, sorry) and then do a thorough cleaning to get rid of any crumbs, etc. in your cabinets and pantry. I think there's a list around here someplace of what cooking tools you'll need to replace, but I do recall that wooden spoons, plastic colanders and upright toasters will need to be replaced. If you must have bagels, go to your health-food store and pick up some gluten free bagels (not wheat-free - many wheat free products contain barley). Don't buy out the store. Just try a few and see how you react to them. Whenever I need a snack, I get some Lundberg Rice cakes with peanut butter (for protein) spread on them. They really help quell my cravings!
  5. Read up on "fair use" in the "Part 2" link I posted above. If you want to sell the thing (and even if you don't) you might want to make sure that you've added something of value to any recipes that come from other sources. Obviously if you've made a change to make sure it's gluten-free and doesn't grow legs and start attacking people, I think that would qualify. If it were me, I'd say something like, "This recipe originally comes from "More than 1 way to cook a Chicken" by Gomez Addams (Scary Press). To make it work I replaced the batwings with oregano and only used half an egg."
  6. Everyone is different, but I'll tell you that frequent bouts with acid reflux and other problems kept me going to the GI until he finally ordered the bloodwork for Celiac. I've been gluten-free for about 7 weeks now and (when I'm not accidentally gluttening myself) my acid reflux has almost completely gone away. I actually was able to eat pepperoni pizza (gluten-free of course) and I had no problems sleeping that night. Your mileage may vary, but going gluten-free has really settled my stomach.
  7. Well, if I understand correctly, they're not making any extra holes in you so it's not as risky a procedure as surgery. They're just sticking a camera through an existing opening. It's done on an outpatient basis - I didn't even have to take off my pants. I don't know how things will be done at your facillity, but there was no exposure to other patients when I went. By all means talk it over with the GI. Mine felt the blood test was conclusive and didn't see the need for another endoscopy for a biopsy (I guess he got a good enough look the first time around - I just wish he was a little quicker to suggest celiac - it would've saved us both a lot of time).
  8. I'm looking for anyone interested in starting a support group in McHenry county Illinois. So far, the groups that I've found in the Chicago area are too far away. I'm looking for something closer to Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Woodstock, McHenry, etc. Anyone else out there?
  9. Do they want you to eat gluten before the test? If not, it really is no big deal. There was no discomfort at all and the drugs they gave me left me with no memory of the procedure at all.

  12. Gee, I'd be happy just to find a support group to snub me. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one in the county who has it.
  13. Not to derail the thread, but here's some browser answers for you. The rumor is that IE7 is designed the way it is to drum up support for the new Vista OS that's due out soon. While it certainly appears rushed (it ignores more than a few established web standards) I can't imagine how this would make anyone want to rush out and buy Vista. There is a work-around available on the IE website that will let IE7 mimic IE6. Alas, it does not fix the issue with the video playback on the Celiaccentral site. Neither does downloading the latest version of Quicktime. You can uninstall IE7 and go back to the earlier browser if you like. Instructions are available on the IE website. I'm probably going to switch over to Firefox - it has all of the bells and whistles of IE7, with fewer headaches. The only thing I'll miss is FTP support, but Microsoft made a mess of that in IE7 as well. I'll just use Network Neighborhood to access my FTP sites.
  14. The video appears fine on my Firefox browser, but it's cropped on IE7 (microsoft really messed things up with this upgrade). I wrote a message to the webmaster to see if there's anything they can do about it.
  15. I think the candies themselves are fine, provided they are the same size and shape as the regular product I see no reason why they'd be prepared any differently. The only possible problem is the packaging and whether or not gluten is present when these things are being bagged. The candies that are not packaged in fun-sized bags for Halloween are marked as safe on the lists I've seen.
