Hey guys. I am desperate to find a proper balance of flours that most closely resembles proper perogies. If you are Ukrainian, polish whatever and have found a way to remaster the perfect home-made perogy dough please help. I think it is the thing I miss the most and I can't seem to get the consistency right.

ARCHIVED "dusted" Chicken Wings

Ok so I strayed from the plan. I didn't want to get too experimental for his b-day wings so I did another old favorite. I call them Pauline's Hot and Honey wings. I actually make them a multitude of ways by changing the rub. Here's what I did last night. Rub: Chinese five-spice powder (Equal parts ground: cinnamon, cloves, fennel seeds, star... -

Thank you for all the replies. I'm making them tues and have to make a few alterations with the brine....using a gluten free beer for the first time (bloody expensive and I only ever had a taste for imports so thats saying a lot...lol) If it is successful I'll share it. If not I will when I figure out how to make it good again -
It's my boyfriends birthday this weekend and one of the biggest things we are missing since going gluten free is wings. I make my own sauce always but the dusting is what I am curious about. Does anyone have a suggestion of what will work out as close to flour as possible? It would be such a huge help. Undusted wings would be fine for me but it's his...

ARCHIVED Wheat Allergy Or Celiac?
kitten37 replied to illbeshell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't say for sure but heres my deal. I have always had issues w/ candidia, I am celiac. Does it predispose someone......I'm unsure and from the years of dealing with doctors to FINALLY come to this I am also unsure that they get the whole picture. I now see how many people show (symptoms) in different ways. It's not to say that they are not connected... -
ARCHIVED Non Dh Itching - What's Most Likely Culprit?
kitten37 replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to agree. When all else fails elimination is your best bet. For some just cutting gluten won't be the cure all. Maye you are having reactions to things you may be able to eat later but need more time to repair. Maybe some things you will always be sensitive to. Good luck elimination isn't easy but well worth it in the long run -

I'm so sorry you have to be in that terrible place As far as work is concerned education is the key to solving misunderstandings. Educate your employer/coworkers as this is probably foreign to them. Inform them of what celiac does to the body and how after being gluten free the symptoms and reactions are worsened. Explain to them the steps you have... -
ARCHIVED Kelsey's In Burlington, On
kitten37 replied to maryjoali's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just a question...... I was at a course in Brampton, ON today and after seeing this post a while back and not remembering what was avail. gluten free, asked about their gluten free options. The waiter looked at me like I had a third eye. I attend this course every first Mon-Weds of each month and I always go to kelseys with 2 girls from the course. Having... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
kitten37 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I got my book yesterday and read thoroughly. I see what you guys meant this is not very restrictive at all. The only change I need to make to my current diet is making yogourt instead of buying and using dry lentils all the time instead of some of the time. I made a beautiful stuffed buttercup squash today (a favorite of mine). I'm so excited now!!! -
ARCHIVED Enzeym Pill?
kitten37 replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is very similar to lactase?!? <----- unsure of correct name. For lactose intolerants to take before injesting lactose. While with some lactose intolerants it may mask symptoms and make processing it slightly better it is not a cure and it is unkown what damage is still done to the intestinal tract. Taking the pill only mimics having the enzyme... -

Also something to keep in mind swimming is hitting your whole body. So you may actually bulk a little bit before burning off excess. Wish you all the best in balancing out. GL on the iron man...I wish I could do something like that but can only run on an eliptical after a sports injury years ago. -
What does your typical diet consist of now? Mapping that out is a huge help to see where you could add things in

ARCHIVED I Just Want Them To Stop
kitten37 replied to VioletBlue's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always been a very vivid/scary dreamer. Keep in mind that these are the things you worry about manifesting themselves in odd ways. Just gone gluten-free for good and I think if I wake up in a panic from a dream like that I'll dies from laughter shortly after. It's a scary thing that's for sure. Having been sick for however long having some... -
Hee hee mine is a pregnant belly. I gained 30lbs but almost none of it is in my belly. I gain all over so most people including myself don't notice it happening. I wake up in the am with a mostly flat tummy (- my very tiny roll) and by the end of the day I seriously look and feel pregnant. It's crazy! My boyfriend and I make up baby names joking because...

ARCHIVED Help.. I Need Support Please
kitten37 replied to shae22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am a HUGE foodie and Italian to boot. I tried to go off gluten about 2 years ago after a specialist suggested it might "help" but not in giving me a "this is what's wrong with you." In that time I felt so much better but as time went on I slowly started eating things I shouldn't have....remembering the feel/taste of certain things and just being plain... -

Is this the 1st event you have trained for? Do you have a trainer working with you? Chart your daily intake (absolutely everything that goes in your mouth) in a diary an outside eye may be able to spot a pattern or issue you are unaware of. Have you gone up in muscle/fat ratio if you are training you may be building more muscle putting you up on... -
ARCHIVED Didn't Know Where To Post. Please Help!
kitten37 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Up the food intake. You are def. not getting enough. Don't let a scale rule your life. At first you may put on a few pounds because the diet you are ingesting right now is not giving you enough, the body will try to store some of the extra food it gets. Increase slowly by adding some snacks in there fresh veggies and fruit. Keep active if you are not... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
kitten37 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry I probably didn't make my point correctly. It just sounded from other posts and from what I read on the web (MARKETING - only the beginning part they give you so you have to buy the book) that it was extremely restrictive at first and I just wanted to know how long it takes to get back to eating a full balanced diet. I have a massive distaste for... -
Totally agree. My Girlfriend and my sister are getting married within a month of each other. I just found out at 26 what has been wrong with me my whole life..lol. Both my sister and girlfriend are trying to bent over backwards AGAINST my pleas to find an accommodation for me to eat even though all the planning is set in motion I don't feel that as 1 guest...

Ignorant people are just that. I'm sorry that it happened like that. I'm Italian so cutting gluten products out of my diet (just started) is VERY difficult for me based on the amount of pasta things I am used to eating. When I first found out what I had to do I think the words "I'm going to die! Everything tasty is being taken away!" But I know there... -
Assert yourself. There are many people out there with nut or shellfish allergies and a restaurant would not take those lightly, nor would/should colleagues/clients. Your health is number one. I was going to say if you are not ready to go through the initial explanation right in front of these people calling the restaurant ahead and giving a heads up so...

ARCHIVED Is There Anything I Can Do To Supress My Appetite?
kitten37 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also have linked this to thirst. I drink a ton of water in a day but sometimes days get busy and I don't have a chance. It took me a while to make the connection that those were the nights I was ravenous. It's the I want something but don't know what it is feeling and most people mistake it for a wanting of food. When I get that feeling I start by...
