  1. haha, thank you both! i'm a very cleanly, hygenic person anyways, but i was in food service for so long that i'm near obsessive compulsive about it. i ended up figuring out a way to deal with being possibly exposed to it, and those include gloves and keeping a bottle of hand sanitizer really handy. i'm also very, very careful when it comes to my celiac...
  2. hi again! anyways, i just need a little advice. i was in food service for a while and was also a barista... all before i was diagnosed. i just got my first job waitressing at a sushi place, and of course, the soy sauce, teriyaki and the tempura are big no-no's, but i do have to serve, take away plates, etc. and will have to soon start frying tempura dishes...
  3. thank you so much - she's always told me that she feels foggy when she eats gluten, and i know how bad it can get from personal experience (i've literally sat in bed for days just because i couldn't get up from being that fogged up). i just don't why someone, who knows what it's doing to them, would continue on this way... especially when they know just how...
  4. i didn't know that this little party was going on until i showed up for work on the day in question, otherwise i probably wouldn't have been as bothered. also, i don't expect people to cater to me or any special treatment; just a heads-up would have been nice. since i'd never really dealt with that situation before, i was just looking for a little friendly...
  5. i really think it's just turning a blind eye and not caring, but i do think that an addiction may be a big part of it. i went 22-23 years before having to change, while she went 42 years before showing any symptoms. i can imagine it being a lot harder to deal with after that much longer an amount of time, but still - she knows people near her age who have...
  6. i actually called her and left a message saying i was going to cook while living there. there's no way i'm risking anything. i'm an adult, and quite a good cook, so there's no point in taking that chance.
  7. she knows she has it - as i said, she was diagnosed eight years ago through blood test and she gets violently ill when she eats any of it. she also knows exactly what it's doing to her body - she is a nurse after all. she just doesn't seem to care and it's very, very frustrating. she just refuses to alter her eating habits or lifestyle. for instance, one...
  8. okay. i am 24 years old. back in 2002, my mother was diagnosed with celiac disease, so obviously she has had ample time to adjust... but she hasn't. she'll still eat gluten regularly, especially when she's on vacation (she claims she doesn't have symptoms because she's "relaxed"). her utter lack of regard for her health has me completely bemused. she'll eat...
  9. there is an office party going on today for someone's birthday. while i don't begrudge anybody bringing in baked goods for everyone, i do feel a pretty rising resentment for being left out due to my celiac disease. everyone here knows that i am afflicted, and yet still no one had the forethought to bring in something other than pizza and cupcakes and cake...
