  1. I have celiac disease (more specifically dermatitis herpitiformus) and have known about it for about a year, though I didn't receive my official diagnosis until about a month ago. I've been wondering if my daughter has or will have celiac disease and what to look for in her. I had/have somewhat obscure symptoms (joint pain, rash, infertility/miscarriage...
  2. I know that celiac disease is genetic, but I'm wondering what the statistics are for passing it on to your children. My daughter is 4.5 and, as far as I can tell, is not exhibiting symptoms at this point. Also, my symptoms did not present themselves until my early 20's. Does that have any bearing on the age my daughter may come into it? Thanks!
  3. 1. Be your own advocate. Educate yourself and others. 2. Don't be discouraged. We all slip.
  4. I've been battling secondary infertility for over two years now. I've only know that I have celiac disease for about a year. I have taken fertility treatments and had a miscarriage. My 4.5 year old daughter's placenta stopped working at the end of my pregnancy with her. I was induced for not having any amniotic fluid (didn't leak, just stopped making...
  5. Last August, I began to suspect that I have celiac disease. I had a terrible rash, achy joints, and unexplainable infertility/miscarriage. After doing a lot of research, it seemed like a clear explanation for everything I was experiencing. However, my doctor was reluctant to confirm my suspicions when my blood test came back negative. He went on to test...
  6. My DH was misdiagnosed as eczema for years. I had an itchy rash on both shins for years. When I finally figured out what the heck was wrong with me, I had a full-blown, insanity0inducing rash on the backs of my thighs. That went on for several months until I stopped eating gluten. A few days ago, I accidentally ate gluten and woke the next morning with...
  7. Yes, my doctor and I agree that gluten probably caused my miscarriage. It happened before I was diagnosed and I was eating gluten like crazy. There was no other explanation for it.
  8. After 2.5 years of trying for baby #2 and one miscarriage later, my cycles seemed to be returning to a somewhat normal and functioning state. I have been gluten-free since August. Before that, I had to use fertility meds to ovulate. My last cycle was beautiful--I even ovulated on my own. When my period showed up, I felt sorry for myself for STILL not...
  9. It is: Allegro Hickory Smoke Marinade
  10. Do you notice that a certain gluten-free flour or common ingredient has a weird aftertaste? I notice it a lot in Bob's Red Mill cookie and bread mixes. I baked a loaf of bread mix that had so much potential. It had a great texture and looked beautiful...but it had that dreadful aftertaste. Do you know what I'm talking about?
  11. My husband bought some meat marinade that says it is gluten-free. However, the first ingredient is soy sauce. It doesn't specifically contain wheat, but it does contain caramel color. Would you steer clear of it, even though it states that it is gluten-free?
  12. After two years of inexplicable secondary infertility and one miscarriage, my OB and I are certain that gluten intolerance has been the cause of my problems. He said that Celiac Disease can certainly lead to both issues.
  13. Last week, I accidentally ate gluten--and it must have been quite a bit. Less than a half hour later, I started feeling terrible. My joints hurt, I was nauseated, I had a massive headache, and felt like I could pass out. Thankfully, it passed about two hours later when I ate and drank some more non-gluten items. I've been gluten-free since early August...
  14. I have been battling secondary infertility for two years in December. A year ago, we had a miscarriage and have not had a pregnancy since. I've been on Clomid many times (with breaks along the way). Everything appears to be working correctly, but I don't get pregnant. There was also no explanation for my miscarriage. Someone posted an article on here...
  15. I have a self-diagnosis of Celiac Disease. I had a blood test, but it was negative. However, I have the rash called Dermatitus Herpitiformus. My doctor told me, "I don't know what is wrong with you," because my blood test was negative. He wasn't very receptive to the idea that gluten was causing all of my problems: the rash, joint pain, unexplained infertility...
  16. When I called my mom to tell her how frustrated I was she said, "It doesn't matter what the doctor said. What could he do for you, anyway? Since it is all controlled by diet, YOU are in control, not the doctor. You know what makes you feel better, so do it." I need to listen to her. Without the positive blood test, I don't think anything I could...
  17. After I told my doctor that I felt better than ever going gluten-free, and then had a major reaction yesterday after eating gluten, he informed me that my blood work was negative. He essentially dismissed Celiac as the cause of my problems...despite the fact that all of my symptoms/problems disappeared while gluten-free. He said he doesn't know what is...
  18. I don't have an official diagnosis of Celiac at this point, but I expect to get one tomorrow. (I have a two-week follow up appointment and will hear back about my blood work). I plan to opt out of a biopsy. For one thing, I don't want to go back on gluten. I've been off for two weeks and have been glutened twice already. (Apparently, my learning curve...
  19. I swear. We were on the road today, so we ate out. We went to Arby's, because I've read that they will serve just the roast beef and cheese in a container. They did and I had no problem with it. (I did have a moment of sadness when I realized I couldn't have the Arby's Sauce anymore, though). Then, I had a couple of my daughter's fries. I remembered...
  20. Thanks for fixing my title! I knew that DH stood for Dermatitis Herpetiformis, I just meant that I appreciate that the folks here have validated that if I have DH, I have Celiac.
  21. I'm glad I have you all to tell me about DH=Celiac. I've read that here before, but I'm not sure what my doctor's take will be on it. He didn't seem overly thrilled when I came in with the idea of a potential diagnosis. Side note: I hate that I spelled gluten wrong in the title of this post! I can't fix it and it's bugging me. So sorry
  22. I'm not exactly sure where I got a dosage of gluten, but it's quite obvious that I had some. I noticed yesterday that I had DH all over my back. Then, last night, I was unable to sleep because the backs of my legs were itching so bad. I also felt generally 'blah' yesterday. I feel more awake today, but I'm still itching. I'm guessing it will take a few...
  23. I suspect gluten to be the cause of my infertility and miscarriage. There appears to be nothing hormonally or physically wrong with me, yet my husband and I have been trying for baby #2 for almost two years. (We had our miscarriage 10 months ago). I do not ovulate on my own and my cycles are crazy-long if left to their own devices.
  24. I've read some old posts on here about withdrawal symptoms, so I feel pretty confident that is what I'm going through, but I guess I need validation... I am sooo lethargic. Despite the fact that I could barely keep my eyes open yesterday evening, I slept very little last night. Yesterday afternoon, I felt very light-headed and had to sit down a couple...
