  1. We use Peter Gillham's CALM magnesium and calcium drink. No problem with leg cramps any more, also helps reduce blood pressure, and is calming to help sleep. Soy caused leg cramps and we avoid soy like the plague for many reasons.
  2. Might want to read the previous post. Casein in milk can cause the same headaches as gluten. My wife continued to have headaches until off of casein as well. Don't take the headaches too lightly, her's ended up in frontal lobe dementia.
  3. The gluten protein and the casein protein in dairy have very similar chemical structures, and both can cause neurological problems. My wife did not get rid of migraines until she was off both gluten and dairy (goat milk also has casein). Interestingly, my wife had a MRT test done recently and blueberries caused the highest reaction, slightly above wheat. Who would have guessed.
  4. If you have not, you might consider reading the book "Thrive" by Brendan Brazier. He is a professional triathlete and has won the world Ironman contest several times. His diet is vegan and gluten free. He stresses alkaline and nutrient dense foods, like Hemp Protein, amaranth, and buckwheat for example.
  5. It is in your best interest to never eat unfermented soy. As well as having high levels of glutamate, it also has high levels of phytic acid and should be considered a poison. Did you know that they did a 25 year study and that CT scans showed the people who ate the most soy had the highest incidence of dementia and brain atrophy. This website http://www.naturalnews.com/022630.html and http://www.lewrockwell.com/mercola/mercola95.1.html as well as many others discuss all the harmful effects of soy. I assume you don't use artificial sweeteners. http://www.naturalnews.com/020550.html Magnesium and Curcumin, a turmeric extract, help block excessive glutamate in the brain. http://www.life-enthusiast.com/index/Education/NutritionAvoid/Excitotoxins:_Ultimate_Brainslayer
  6. So we have gluten, casein, salicylates, and now candida that can all cause anxiety and other neurological problems. It is easy to see why when some people go gluten free and dairy free that they still can have problems. Until the core problem, the leaky gut is healed and the causes of the leaky gut are removed, there is always going be the next thing to cause problems. God only knows what the genetically modified foods are going to do. As for helping to rid the system of candida, our family has been using extra virgin coconut oil in combination with probiotics. It is antifungal and antibacteral.
  7. If you go to the top of the page and do a search on Neurologic, over 130 posts on this topic will be listed. Be sure and select all Forums to get a complete list. If you do the same thing for Blogs, you will get another list of more basic information. A lot of information has already been posted. Gluten, Casein, and Salicylates are all possibilites. Obviously, you are not alone with your problems. Good luck.
  8. The gluten and casein peptides are similar and can cause neurological damage when they are not fully digested and get into the bloodstream via a leaky gut, resulting in an autoimmune response. This link gives a discussion of similarities and these effects. http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/home/eng/peptide.asp
  9. One of the needs for healing a leaky gut is contiinued use of probiotics. Raw sauerkraut is good natural way to do that. However, unless you make it yourself, grocery store brands usually have preservatives and high salt. High salt is a no no for high blood pressure, and preservatives are a bad idea as well. We started using a salt, preservative, and gluten free raw sauerkraut from Rejuvenated Foods that we found in the refrigerated section at a healthfood store. It is made with lemon and dill, no salt. It tastes good and we just add it to our meal like a condiment. There numerous benefits to eating raw sauerkraut, and the website http://www.rejuvenative.com/articleRCV.htm is a good source of information.
  10. In order to keep the intestines in good condition, my impression is one should take appropriate enzymes and probiotics for life. More during the healing period, and then a maintenance amount later. And we eat less fermented food than other societies and the bad intestinal flora overwhelm the good.
  11. The website http://www.enzymestuff.com/conditionleakygut.htm gives a good explanation of why other sensitvities are no longer a problem. As you might expect the core problem for most people is a leaky gut. Heal the intestines and most of the problems go away.
  12. Our family avoids unfermented soy like the plague and you may want to as well! This information was extracted from Dr. Mercola's website. 8 Top Reasons to Avoid Unfermented Soy
  13. My wife uses Digest Spectrum which includes specific enzymes for gluten, casein, lactose, and phenol. Advertised to be able to digest a whole meal, but we only use it when we eat out as an added precaution in case there is contamination. She is also lactose and casein sensitive. Also use it sometimes just to detox the system. Our experience has been positive. It is pricey, but for us it is worth it.
  14. The neurological damage possibilities should scare you. My wife (mid 60's)was diagonsed with frontal lobe dementia. She had migraine headaches most of her life until she quit eating gluten. Problems did not completely improve until she quit eating casein (dairy)as well. Casein has molecular structure similar gliadin, and both can cause nerve damage. We haven't eaten soy for years (both had negative reactions). It has anti-thyroid compounds (blocks iodine), and should certainly not be eaten by anyone with thyroid problems. Fermented soy is ok, like tempeh or miso. Much better to eat extra virgin coconut oil which helps the thyroid.
  15. Neurological Damage These are interesting facts from Dr. Ford's website http://www.drrodneyford.com/ Brain and nerves can be harmed by gluten Did you know that: -Over half of celiac have some neurological symptoms from gluten -Many un-diagnosed neurological diseases have been attributed to gluten -Headaches and migraines can be triggered by gluten -ADHD can be a gluten symptom -Depression and agitation can be caused by gluten sensitivity.
