ARCHIVED Being Good - Still Having Problems
VAGuy replied to VAGuy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for your replies - one more piece of the puzzle I guess, a little more info to take to the Doc - maybe I can sneak a couple strawberries with dinner rather than on an empty stomach, homegrown taste so good. I have been tryign to avoid corn syrup for a while and it helps, can tolerate a little bit of ketchup or BBQ sauce with it but am being real careful... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms But Can Eat Certain Kinds Of Wheat
VAGuy replied to enortham's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello enortham - just before I went gluten-free I had whittled down my list of foods and was doing some better but not great. I seemed to do okay with Harris Tetter Toasting bread, shortbread cookies, HT turnovers did not bother as much as Safeway ones, hamburger buns weren't too bad, others. But yeasty breads and rolls bothered a whole lot. After... -
ARCHIVED Where Is My Post From Yesterday?
VAGuy replied to VAGuy's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I'm confused - I did a post last night about my being good on the gluten-free part of the diet but having problems with sugars - and I can't find it. Disappearing post has happened before. Was it deleted for being dull or not relavant, or did I somehow do something wrong? No offense, just wondering. -
Hello everybody, thought I'd run this past you folks. gluten-free since November EnteroLab advised me to go gluten-free, and avoid dairy, eggs, and yeast in April and that I did not have colitis Had been dairy free for a while before that Have found that only minimal amounts of corn products can be tolerated Can tolerate only minimal fiber ...

ARCHIVED Do I Need More Testing?
VAGuy replied to monica's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't remember which posting in which forum I saw it, but there was mention of a woman not being able to get a new health insurance policy when her husband changed jobs - because she was diagnosed with celiac disease/had a "pre-existing" condition. From what I understand a biopsy is needed for a positive ID. My Enterolab results were that I have gene... -
I bumbled across www.topsecretrecipes.com - A large listing of recipes that are clones of those used by chain restaurants, with comments by people who have tried the recipes or altered them. I'll go back again but I printed out WENDY'S CHILI - received great reviews ARBY'S SAUCE - I tried it and it's close There were mentions of Applebee's,...

ARCHIVED Eating Makes Me Sick
VAGuy replied to Kayleen007's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was gluten-free from Nov to April and still having a terrible time when I received my results from Enterolab. Not only did they recommend staying away from wheat rye and barley, but also dairy, yeast, and egg. Dropping those out helped, but I have found out that I am having problems with corn products too. High fiber, coarse fiber, coarse ground pepper... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Rice Milk? Other Problems
VAGuy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been trying to use Rice Dream Rice Drink instead of cow's milk or soy milk wirh rice chex in the morning, or with Carnation instant breakfast at dinner (which I now know to stay away from). When I do I have problems in AM, then am ok, then problems pm, then ok. Hidden on the back of the box (other flavors list this under ingredients so I haven... -
Imagine trying to learn to bake and not use yeast, eggs, or dairy. I understand the egg and milk substitutes, but I'm not finding anything on a substitute for yeast. Anybody have any ideas? The bread I was making wasn't anything to write home about but at least I could have a sandwich or toast and access to breadcrumbs. Would extra baking powder...

Can a moderator help? I did a post(#6086)@7:55PM yesterday in the post-diagnosis forum but it doesn't show up there. I found it in I think it was active topics, and there was one reply. But why did it disappear? Should I try it again? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

ARCHIVED Watching Diet And Still Getting Sick
VAGuy replied to Aightball's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Cheap to try - really helped me. Have been gluten-free 4 months and still trouble. Began "graphing" how I did each day, Bad, Fair, OK, Good. Graph going up and down, up and down, etc. Began drinking spring water or reverse osmosis purified water on Mar 23. Every day since then with exception of today (Fair) has been (Good). Skin problems clued me... -
ARCHIVED Help Me "read" Enterolab Results
VAGuy posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello everybody. I received my test results from Enterolab and I understand them, but I was wondering if they are normal, extreme, or whatever. I'll summarize and ask a few Q's. Scores: Antigliadin lgA 18 units, normal < 10 Anti Tissue Transglutaminase lgA 16 units, normal < 10 Maslabsorption Fat test 73 units, normal <... -
ARCHIVED I Think I'm Turning Japanese
VAGuy replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your mention of bottled water interested me. I have been using spring water or purified water for the past couple weeks for cooking(think how much rice soaks up) and drinking, and I really have to limit skin contact with chlorinated water. Feel much better for doing so. I was doing another search for info on chlorine allergies recently and got a hit... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Better?
VAGuy replied to SteveW's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello SteveW There should be two posts coming up in the Pre-diagnosis forum (I just wrote them and I think they are previewed prior to being listed) that you might want to look at. In short - the list of things to avoid for a while includes nuts, and you mentioned Almonds. I've been blundering around for 3 months now and am finally getting a grip... -
ARCHIVED Graph To Go With Diet Log
VAGuy posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have found this to be useful in conjunction with my diet log, it is easy to spot trends and is very simple. Take a piece of notebook paper. To the left of the red line mark each line for the day of the month, from the top down. Turn the page 1/4 turn so the red line is the horizontal axis. Draw 3 lines above the red line, at 1/2 inch intervals... -
ARCHIVED This Advice Helped
VAGuy posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was really having a rough time trying to get ready to send off to Enterolab and I went back and re-read the info my dietician had given me. This part really helped. "If you have persistent diarrhea, it will be necessary to follow a very strict diet, eliminating all milk and milk products prepared without Lactaid; fatty foods; and high-residue foods... -
ARCHIVED Medicine...?
VAGuy replied to azza's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was searching for gluten-free food lists and found www.glutenfreeinwny.com (good site) and they had a link to www.glutenfreedrugs.com, which has both a theraputic and alphabeticatl list of gluten-free Medications. It's got a zillion names on it. The gluten-free in W New York site also has a link to some home-brewed gluten-free beer recipies, but I have... -
ARCHIVED Am I A Failure On This Diet?
VAGuy replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello gillian - I don't know iif this will help but it might. I've been trying to go gluten-free since about Thanksgiving, and I think I've only blundered a couple times, but I'm still having lots of trouble; this is what I've found. Sugars - I think all kinds - cannot have them at breakfast or between meals, it seems only with dinner... -
I do not have DH but I do have terribly dry skin and problems so I thought I'd toss these out. Johnson & Johnson First Aid Cream is what I use, almost anything else seems to irritate problem areas. It will act as a moisturizer and aids healing, and is not real greasy. Lanacane has a similar vehicle or base, but contains something that acts like...

Thank you for your replies - I'll put info in my notebook. Think I'll try some rolls or buns next - have recipes for them - I guess I'm going to add "bake night" to the weekly schedule. Phil

ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question
VAGuy replied to VAGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for reply gf4life - I hope to send kit back next week and cross fingers till I get results. Am really hoping I do not lose dairy too, but am skeptical. Hope your kids are OK, must be scary being the parent of a child with such problems. Phil -
I need some advice - I'm not having much luck in baking breads. I can't eat commercial gluten-free bread and rolls due to fiber and guar gum. One loaf I made from a mix collapsed when I cut it warm (my mistake), and yesterday I tried French Bread from The Gluten-Free Gourmet Cooks Fast And Healthy and it did too. It rose OK, kind of weird shaped when...

ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question
VAGuy replied to VAGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm confused about what I should eat or not eat prior to returning the Enterolab kit - I'm borrowing the money so I've gotta do this right the first time. 1. I had thought a gluten-free diet prior to the Enterolab tests was OK by them, but on Feb 20 gf4life said about her children -"keep them on gluten until the tests are sent off"- should I try and eat... -

ARCHIVED Nestle
VAGuy replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you - a little Carnation Instant Breakfast (Nestle label on container) is getting to be a real treat for me, glad to have an alternative. They said to avoid the Cocolate Malt flavor, but the others are OK.
