  1. Kristren, I can relate to how you feel. I have been gluten free for 11 mths. now. I cannot say that I feel any better yet. Mostly I feel worse because my diet is not healthy. I never was never interested in learning to cook when I was growing up. Now, it is a real hinderance to me. I was use to a life of popping , Lean Cuisine, or Healthy Choice into the microwave. Now that those days are over I am really hurting. I have lost 55 lbs. since I have been diagnosed and I don't know where it is going to stop. I am so weak all of the time. I am doing the snack foods and lots of cheese, some vegetables and potatoes. I haven't figured out the meat yet. I am still working on that. It can be frustrating at times. My brother was diagnosed a mth. before me and he has gained weight, but he has a wife to cook for him. I hope that things will look up for you real soon.
  2. I have been looking for a crack also. I am eating Blue Diamond also, but do not really like them. I really miss my Ritz.. Could someone tell where I could purchase Glutino. I do not have acess to any health food stores where I live and I live on disability and food stamps so my income is limited. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
  3. I was diagnosed with Cealiac in Nov. 05. I noticed that prior to being diagnosed everytime I used any type of chapstick that my lips felt like they were on fire. I never could figre out why. Now that I have been diagnsed with Celiac I am pretty certain that must be why. I am wondering if someone can tell me where I can purchase chapstick that is gluten free. It would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I have been gluten free for 9 mths. and I have lost 50 lbs. I don't know where it will stop. I am trying to eat as much as possible, but food makes me sick. I have trouble getting it down. I feel worse now that I did before going gluten free.
  5. Carolyn, I understand exactly how you feel. I miss being able to eat out once in a while. I never learned how to cook, so that is a real problem for me. I am fortunate that I only have to deal with gluten and wheat. Since going gluten free, I have lost 50 lbs. and I am in a downward spiral that I cannot seem to get a handle on. I have been gluten free for 9 mths. and I feel worse now than I did before I started. I look ten yrs. older than I did before I started. I don't know what the answer is.

  8. I so far don't have very many problems with my stomach. The only problems I have are that since I have lost so much weight, I have trouble getting food to go down, or just not getting it to go down at all. It is like when I was anorexic, but I am definitely not anorexic. I am fighting as hard as I can to keep weight on. I eat alot of potatoes and rice. They seem to work well for me, but are getting old really fast. A friend of my is giving me a bread maker that she has that has only been used once. I just need a recipe for gluten free wheat bread and how to get started to make it. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it. I need to get a handle on my problem before it gets a hold on me. Thanks for listening.

  10. . The only foods that I have eliminated from my diet are gluten and wheat. I don't have a problem with any other foods. It took me 2 yrs. to recover from anorexia. I am on disability for major depression. I have suffered from it for 34 yrs. the other health problems are thyroid, sjrogrens syndrome, chronic fatigue, arthritis, bipolar disorder.
  11. I do not know how to cook, but a friend of mine has a bread maker that was only used once and she is giving it to me. What I need to know is a recipe for just plain gluten free wheat free bread. There may be one on the website, but I have not found one. If someone could help me out I would appreciate it. Also I might need more than than just the ingredients. I'm not sure since I don't know how to cook. Thanks for your help.
  12. I have been on a downward spiral since I was diagnosed with Celiac in Nov. 05. I was 30 lbs. overweight and was aggressively working on losing the weight at the time I was diagnosed. Once I went on the gluten-free/wf diet, immediately started dropping weight. To date, I have lost 50 lbs. I cannot seem to find enough foods that are gluten-free. One problem is that I do not know how to cook. Also I live on disability and cannot afford the prepackaged gluten-free foods. I am so weak that I can barely get around. Also when I do try to eat, I can barely get the food to go down. It really makes me sick. It is like it was when I was anorexic 20 yrs. ago. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have an appt. with a dieticien this Friday. I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone might have.
  13. Thanks everyone for your replies. They have been helpful. I can tolerate dairy. I have a milkshake everyday and that helps some, but it gets old. I eat canned potatoes that are diced which are o.k. I eat rice and tomatoes some. I am going to have to try the rice with the cheddar cheese. I really miss my mac and cheese. The thing I miss the most is my bread and crackers. I cannot afford to pay 6.00 for a loaf of bread, and I have not found any crack that resemble what I remember as being a real cracker. I do get some food stamps, but not enough to afford gluten food. It is embarrasing to say, but I do not know how to cook, I am very limited as to what I can cook. That was something that I was never interested in learning how to do. With a microwave, as long as there was Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice I was o.k. or so I thought. Well, I am having to rethink. I will take your suggestions and see what I can come up with.
  14. I was diagnosed with Celiac last Nov. Since then as of today I have lost 50 lbs. I am only 5'1" and am beginning to look anorexic. People are telling me that I am to skinny. I have always been a picky eater and having to cut out all gluten and wheat has really made it rough on me. I am trying to eat all that I can, but my stomach has grown up. Also, I live on disability and cannot afford to buy gluten free foods from health food stores, and there is only 1 health food store where I live and it does not have alot to offer. I eat alot of salads, rice and tomatoes, hamburger patties, steaks, some vegetables. I would appreciates any suggestions that anyone has. Thanks,
  15. I never thought that I would see the day that I craved bread, but I actually crave it now more than I do chocolate. I would like to have some real crackers also. Those rice things just don't get it for me.
  16. I was taking 50.000 iu of Vitamin D weekly in the beginning, but I am down to once a month. According to my dr. I may have to take it for the rest of my life.
  17. I was wondering if any of you have the Gluten Free Restaurant Guide and if you have found it to be helpful to you. I am trying to conquer the problem about eating out and not getting very far. Would appreciate any help you good give. Thanks.

  19. I was wondering if anyone has used the Truimph Dining Cards? I was also wondering if they listed any american restaurants and if you could remember any of them. I am getting tired of not being able to eat out anymore. I am also tired of eating the same old foods over and over again. Basically I am tired of celiacs. I have been gluten-free for 4 mths. and I cannot tell a difference yet except losing 10 lbs. which made me pretty happy.
  20. Can I get in on this whole hate thing? I hate that Celiac was ever created. I hate that I cannot go out to eat like normal people. I hate that there is not a good health food store where I live. I hate that I do not know how to cook. I hate that I cannot have the foods back that I like to eat. I hate that I spend all of my time in the grocery store reading labels. I hate eating the same foods all of the time. I hate that I have been suffering from treatment resistant depression for 35 yrs. I hate that this disease controls your lives. I hate that some family members think that cheating won't kill you. They say it didn't hurt you before you found out about it so why should it matter now. I hate the cravings that I am having that I cannot fix, I JUST HATE!!!
  21. Thanks for your replies. I live in the US. I live in a small town and there are not any health food stores. Everything is brand name food. It really sucks, and I am really tired of this diet.
  22. My brother and I both have Celiacs. We live in a small town where there is not a health food store. I cannot afford to order foods online. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cereal that is brand name that is gluten-free? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  23. My vitamin D level has been way too low for almost a year now. I wasn't diagnosed with Celiacs until Nov. 05. I have been on 50,000 units of Vit. D weekly until this mth and my dr. dropped it to once mthly. My body is still not absorbing it. My dr. is still not sure what to do.

  25. I was wondering if whey is considered the same as wheat? Is it allowed or not? I have been gluten-free for a month and a half and am not completely sure of foods yet. Thanks.
