Hello,

Celiac.com Sponsor (A13):
This is my first time posting.

I was recently tested for Celiac and the results were positive for the genes but negative for the antibodies. My doctor said I need to be off gluten for 6 months before the titers of antibodies fall. I discovered I might be gluten intolerant after going on an elimination diet. So, when I was tested I had been gluten free for about 6 weeks. I have been incredibly strict - cook only from scratch - veggies, rice etc. Is it possible my titers have fallen and the result came out negative - but I may still have celiac?

I am planning to stay gluten free because I feel so much better - but I want to know if I am actually celiac or not.

Thanks

PS I have never posted on line before and couldn't post without starting a blog. Is that how this works?!?!

If I understand your question correctly, you were tested only after you were on a Gluten-Free diet which would explain why they were so low. You need to be tested while you are eating gluten, to see how your body is or is not processing the gluten properly and if it is rejecting the tissues that absorb nutrients.

I am facing a slightly similar issue. I started a gluten free diet 3 months ago, as a possible way to treat my IBS which has been bad for many years. I started to feel overall better, but now am frustrated by some recurring bad GI symptoms. Now that I'm not eating gluten, I know that the blood test for antibodies won't work. I read online that there is a stool test for gluten sensitivity and the gene. Has anyone had it recommended by an MD? The one I found online was from a company called Enterolabs. It was the only site that mentions that kind of testing, so I'm not sure how accepted it is by mainstream GI specialists. Thanks for any suggestion.
