Swollen Lymph Nodes And Painful Underarm After Clear Mammogram

Has anyone had swollen lymph nodes and a painful underarm? I am wondering if this could be a result of lymph nodes removing toxins or a sign of something more sinister like cancer. I just had a mammogram, then a follow up mammogram to examine something suspicious, which was subsequently cleared. My white blood cell count is normal. My mother would like me to get a lymph node biopsy because she had non-Hodgkins lymphoma (she is also gluten intolerant and possibly an undiagnosed celiac) and wants me to eliminate lymphoma as a possible cause. I'd love to hear of other people's experience so I can have this in mind when seeing my doctor for a follow up visit.

Hi Blu.

Keep in mind that lymph nodes can swell because of a virus, infections, out of whack immune system.  I'm sure a blood test would be sufficient for a cancer check.  And yes, further checks could be appropriate.

My lymph nodes swell regularly on my neck and under my arms too.  If the swelling goes down within a month if should be fine.  Keep in mind I am not a Doctor but I do have cancer.

Good Luck,
