Test Results - Help

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. I'm new to the forums and wondering if anyone can give me some advice or maybe share with me. I've been struggling with difficult symptoms for almost four years now. I've been tested for everything under the sun and normally everything is normal.

Two years ago I had the blood tests for celiac and was told that my results were borderline so the dr. who tested me would not diagnose me. This is the only test in all the tests I've had done that has ever come back with any kind of "result" and it was only borderline. I've recently started working with a GI dr. who seemed pretty convinced that I have celiac. She did the blood tests again and they came back negative. She then did the DNA testing which came back positive. I just had an endoscopy done yesterday where she took biopsies and we are waiting on the results from this. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar results with tests coming back borderline, or negative and it turns out they do in fact have celiac?

Thanks in advance for any information or advice.

False negatives are not uncommon at all.

My doctors almost killed me because they didn't realize the high rate of false negatives with celiac testing. You can definately have negative blood work and still be celiac. You can even have a false negative on the biopsy and still be celiac. Now that you have had the endo you can start a trial of the diet. You may have the answer from your bodies response before you even go back for the results. Do be sure to stick with the diet for at least a couple months before you decide gluten is not an issue as being gluten free can be tricky at first.
