ARCHIVED Single Serving Juice Cups
RiceAddict posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, it's 2am and I'm up with bad D and the typical glutened symptoms. This one is weird though, I was in Chicago over the weekend and had no appetite so I ate VERY little, fresh fruit, cheetos, Mt Dew, a Wendy's frosty, and a Mrs. Leepers dinner leftover when I got home. These are all staple foods for me and so not out of the ordinary at all, yet I still... -
Whoa! Didn't know about that one. Can you post some details or a web link?

ARCHIVED What To Expect At The Mayo And Other ?'s
RiceAddict replied to geminigal's topic in Doctors
That's a good point to make about Mayo wanting to redo everything. I see how it makes their system go smoother, but it is a big-time reality check for a lot of folks when they say "I just had that test done" However, they have tried to schedule tests or bloodwork at the clinic for me on days that I am not scheduled for anything else. That is when I put... -
ARCHIVED Kansas City Celiacs
RiceAddict replied to Jeremiah's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey yall! I'm a 20 something going to be a 30 something real soon (AAAHHHHH!!!!) My sister lives in Johnson Co. I get down to see her on occasion, usually looking for places to go hang out, would be kinda fun to hook up with a celiac or two for a gluten-free night on the town. -
ARCHIVED Poll: Are You Proud Of....
RiceAddict replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Count me among the proud! I am a collections specialist at a museum. I've been in several museums over the past few years and it is great. I basically advise as to the best way to store, organize, and handle a variety of historic, artistic, and cultural object. Learning history or culture from a book is one thing, but when you are able to hold it in your... -
There was athread on Taco Bell a few months ago. When my parents came up to visit we went to the mall and were looking for a place to eat. None of us were terribly hungry so we decided to try to find fast food. I remember what was discussed on that thread, and on others advice I ordered a steak bowl. It was good, but that has been my only experience with...

ARCHIVED What To Expect At The Mayo And Other ?'s
RiceAddict replied to geminigal's topic in Doctors
May has a specialist for almost every condition known to man. They also have the capacity to test for anything in the human body that can be tested, and all state of the art. That is both good and bad. If you have symptoms that noone else can figure out, that is good. However, the Mayo system is set up so that you see a doctor and anything that lies outside... -
ARCHIVED What To Expect At The Mayo And Other ?'s
RiceAddict replied to geminigal's topic in Doctors
I also go to Mayo for a variety of medical issues. They were actually looking for something else when they stumbled upon celiac--I had never even heard of the disease. So I had the one week with GI back in November but that was all my experience with that department. I saw Dr Arronson, he was a resident. He said I was his 4th celiac diagnosis ever--what... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free At Walmart
RiceAddict replied to tabdegner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am usually not a breakfast person, but today I woke up early somehow and was hungry. I was thrilled that I would get to try my new waffles. Alas, I gave my toaster to one of my summer interns to use since I never had a use for it, guess I'll have to wait 6 more weeks to eat my waffles. As for the Walmart gluten-free pasta, I had a horrible problem... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free At Walmart
RiceAddict replied to tabdegner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you know about the Great Value brand? First off it is usually the cheapest of all the products, second, they list gluten-free right on the package if it is so. I find it much easier, say I'm looking for BBQ sause or something, instead of reading all the ingredients for all the brands I first look at the Great Value to see if it says Gluten Free and then... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free At Walmart
RiceAddict replied to tabdegner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was so upset for months that our Super Walmart didn't carry any rice pasta. I probably looked more than a dozen times. I mentioned this to a friend and the next day he called and said he had found some and exactly where to look. Sure enough it had been there all along, cleverly disguised in a bright blue box with GLUTEN-FREE in giant letters right on... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
RiceAddict replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't believe it! I live in the middle of nowhere in NE Iowa and my Walmart had brownies, muffins, and Vans waffles! Holy Buckets Batman! I am definitely writing a letter to express my gratitude. We have a very small coop grocery in town but the prices are out of this world. Muffin mix was over $5. I'm not much of a baker so I never thought twice... -
ARCHIVED Diabetes And Time Change
RiceAddict replied to elye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry I'm a little late here, but there is no additional advice that I can think of that Doll has not covered. I think one month is a bit of a crunch to try and get a pump and learn to use it, plus you are getting ready for a big trip and we all know what a nightmare that can be. I too wear a pump and it is the most amazing medical advancement that I have... -
ARCHIVED I Ate A Twix!
RiceAddict replied to RiceAddict's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks everyone. YOu have to have a sense of humor about these things, how else would we get by? My sister lives in Johnson Co, KS and I was visiting for Memorial Day Weekend. I met a gal while I was down there and we decided to have a little platonic fling, we had a total blast. Unfortunately I never made it to Waldos......dang it! Next time, next time... -
ARCHIVED I Ate A Twix!
RiceAddict replied to RiceAddict's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think all of my medical junk is killing off brain cells. I don't know what I was thinking. That's sort of why I finally read the label on the third try. I have never been a candy bar eater and I wasn't that hip to Twix. Duh....still what was I thinking. You all think I'm probably a moron with this diet. I assure you that I am not. But I was curious... -
ARCHIVED I Ate A Twix!
RiceAddict posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So here's the deal. I was out on a random first date, it was a strange whirlwind around around Kansas City. About 2am we stopped at a convenience store and my date got a Twix (you know what that means, ) I had told her about my gluten-free diet (infact we were going to eat at Waldos Pizza but got side tracked ) Anyway, back on track, I asked to open... -
Hey Calle, Welcome to the group. I am way up in Decorah, but I do remember someone telling me about a support group around Ames. It was just so far away that I file 13'd it. lol. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If you ever find your way up this direction give me a shout.

ARCHIVED How Many Of You Have Already Had Bone Fractures?
RiceAddict replied to mamabear's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I was diagnosed last year, I had my endoscopy and labs done on a Thursday. Thursday night I was out at a friends in the country and tripped over a tractor implement in the dark. I fell and broke my right wrist. the next day I went in to see the gi and he gave me the news about having celiac. He explained the disease, treatments, and potential complications... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Type 1 Diabetes?
RiceAddict replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like she is exhibiting some of the symptoms of diabetes onset; however, these are not unique symptoms only to diabetes. A BG of 90 is well within the normal range for a non-diabetic. It seems a bit low for a new untreated diabetic though. Ususlly they will be +300 when diagnosed. I don't know if it is possible to have swings of highs and lows... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diebetes-malabsortion Connection?
RiceAddict replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm no medical expert, but I think you may be misquoting your doctor. There is no way that caliac can "cause" diabetes (I or II). The original onset and diagnosis of diabetes is frequently brought up (I like SpikeMoore's word, "triggered") by another illness. I was diagnosed after a severe hyperthermia/heat exhaustion episode. In your case it was the... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diebetes-malabsortion Connection?
RiceAddict replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been diabetic for 17 years now. I was dx with celiac last November. I have other dietary issues and going gluten free made eating a nightmare. I went on an insulin pump right after christmas and that pretty much allows me to eat whatever, and whenever, I want as far as calories and carbs. It has made a huge difference. I can focus on my other dietary... -
ARCHIVED Lacrosse, Wisconsin....calling All gluten-free's In The Area!
RiceAddict replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Which direction do you live from LAX? I'm a little over an hour away in Iowa. I don't know of any support groups, but there are a few people around my community that would probably talk with you. Of course I'll talk as well. Drop me a line. -
ARCHIVED Body Building, Protein Bars/shakes
RiceAddict replied to slcceliac's topic in Sports and Fitness
I've been eating Cliff bars for snacks for a while now, they are pretty good. I just noticed in the store over the weekend that Cliff makes a protein bar as well, only had one flavor though. It has 20g pro and 30g carbs. I got a couple to try and they are not as tasty as regular Cliff bars in my opinion, but they taste alright and I'm happy to eat them...
