I did not mean to suggest that I am considering a gluten free diet optional; however who knows what medical science may deliver in the future and if perhaps this disease will be conquered so that most, if not all, will no longer need to be on a gluten free diet.

My case strongly mirrors this description. Alarmingly severe iron deficiency was detected - and a combination of iron infusions (total of 6, 2 in the first week, and weekly for the next 4 weeks) started immediately. Concurrently oral iron supplement with vitamin c commenced. An endoscopy was scheduled and completed while the iron infusions were in process...
