  1. I haven't eaten gluten for 10 years although I was never diagnosed. I simply felt discomfort after every meal in my life and, after two bowel obstruction surgeries I came to this site and realized where my issues likely were at the time. I don't have those symptoms any longer. That is not why I posted here. I have a niece who has the following symptoms...
  2. My guess is the chocolate or the psyllium husks - those would do me in.
  3. I have had two bowel obstruction surgeries - get off of wheat and treat it as poison.
  4. Northwest suburbs is packed with gluten-free restaurants. Uno's Pizza, Ted Montana's Bar and Grill; Outback; mostly I eat at home since my own cooking seems to be the best. Many East Indian restaurants like Udupi Palace in Schaumburg. Weber Grill was mentioned and all listed above are right in Schaumburg.
  5. I have eaten at Ted Montana's Bar and Grill and when I pointed out that the croutons did not belong on my meal, they promptly threw out the entire meal and made a new one. I have had some Italian restaurants tell me that if I bring my own pasta, they will use special utensils and bowls that are not stored or cleaned in the same kitchen as the other food...
  6. Oranges and some apples have it but I cannot substantiate that in any way. Someone on this board informed me of that a few years ago so I try to avoid those fruits. Grapefruit may also have it but I am not sure. Raw cherries go down the best for me.
  7. I am 60 years old and anybody here who wants to exchange emails with me concerning celiac disease is free to. I never figured it out until I was 56 and had discomfort that long. r.pease@sbcglobal.net
  8. If anybody thinks I am going to eat any gluten at all just to get an accurate test reading, they are nuts and I told my doctor that. He agreed that if staying away from gluten allows me to read and comprehend and to go for a walk without feeling discomfort and constant twisting that occured for 56 straight years an suddenly disappeared by getting it out of...
  9. It depends upon what you are eating for a gluten-free diet. Everyone makes mistakes at first and I had to realize that I have to control my own cooking. No energy implies that your food is too much processed although some of that isn't all bad. Do you get constipation or diarrea? That can make a big difference in what you eat. I have found that adding...
  10. You are not alone. I have a cyber friend who had to be put on anti depressants just before her son't graduation. She, like me, has been divorced for many years and raised her son alone and now she is alone, trying to get used to it. I write poetry that she likes but she has had nothing but trouble responding to me since my writing seems to be too heart...
  11. I grew up not knowing I had celiac disease. But my gut kept giving me many mixed messages. I felt that: 1.) my family was trying to poison me 2.) my country was trying to poison me 3.) that the military was definitely trying to poison me when I served 4.) that doctors would confer on how to keep me in pain 5.) my brain had some extreme diffuculty...
  12. That has barley grass and it is certified gluten free and says so right on the label.
  13. You need Green Magma in order to attack depression associated with celiac disease. It worked on me and when my nephew first got depression it worked on him. It takes 24 hours for it to kick in and then energy level shoots way up. Check health stores for it but not a GNC. Go to Open Original Shared Link and it should be listed there.
  14. I am from Illinois. How far are you from O'Hare?
  15. The best thing to do is to clean the brain of all the toxins caused by wheat and gluten. The best thing that worked for me is this: 1.)Go to the food store and buy femur bones from the butcher. I usually get about six pieces of them that are cut to about three or four inches in length. 2.) Put the bones in a slow cooker and cover them with water. I...
  16. You will keep making mistakes from time to time so get used to it. There are stretches that I use to relieve symptoms. I get down on my back and put my legs into a semi-yoga position. In other words, one leg is bent so that the heel is near the butt like a usual yoga position while the other leg actually crosses over with the knee bent pointing skyward...
  17. All alcohol made from grain has wheat and gluten. I don't go near any of it but it doesn't bother me because I was never into the bar scene or party scene.
  18. I had the problem of sleeping for almost all of my life and didn't know it was due to celiac disease. After being gluten-free the problem didn't go away right away but I have found that the more water I drink, the better I sleep. It may cause me to get up and urinate a few times but I fall right back to sleep right away and sleep deeper. Now keep in mind...
  19. I just bought one tonight and had it for supper. It is made by Wildwood Foods and I thought that I had stepped into heaven. I haven't had a soy burger in a few years. I drowned them in wheat-free soy sauce and put them in the micro for a minute and ten seconds...Add some cucumber and tomato and do I feel content? You better believe it...I just don't like...
  20. I must be a small minority..I can't digest Kinnikinnick donuts at all and don't find much success with their breads either. Seems to be a puzzle.
  21. I find that an east Indian food diet is best for vegetarians and to kick up on the amount of raw bell peppers in the diet. I eat three bell peppers each day along with 7 jalepenos. You might also try and cut out all flour out of your diet...I mean ALL of it. Your system might not be able to tolerate any. When I eat a sandwich, I use one slice and surround...
  22. I used to get constipation constantly until I started eating one raw bell pepper plus a jalapeno pepper with both lunch and supper or any snack. Skip the laxatives since they will likely obstruct your small bowel as they did for me.
  23. For what it's worth.. I cut out all flours, soy, corn, rice and dairy and still wound up with cramps and C. It seemed as though even a fruititarian diet would plug me up. Finally I experimented with eating a whole bell pepper plus one jalapeno three times a day, once at mid-morning snack, once before lunch and again before supper. Now dairy, soy, corn...
  24. I don't know if this will work for any of you but try to stay away from ALL flour. That usually gets the best results for me..I could be wrong about this but I think what happens is that a normal small bowel looks like a series of sausages that are hollow. Each section is supposed to expand only when the one prior contracts to push food along. With a celiac...
  25. Rice milk should do fine. I have done it with cow's milk, soy milk and, if memory serves right, rice milk as well..
